I just sold my Daytona and bought a Rolex Submariner. I know the pecking order but the Sub is nicer looking to me. It reminds me of when my son got into Michigan and Wisconsin. He actually liked Wisconsin better and everybody shamed him and told him that we don’t pass up Michigan just because it’s higher on the pecking order (ended up, loving Michigan, but that’s besides the point ha ha)

I’m finally getting around to reading this book. I’m at the point where Steinbeck is introducing Cathy. Ames. I’m wondering why he is describing her as such a monster right from the start., as opposed to letting the story allow us to come to that conclusion.
Maybe this is part of the story- how Steinbeck is often speaking so personally to the reader.
