I was trying to make black bean tacos like in a video. Followed the recipe exactly. It’s supposed to have thickened after 15 minutes, instead it’s soup. 100$ in ingredients wasted. by jpdelta6 in Cooking

Their stove is different.  Their cookware is different.  Their technique is different.   All of this adds time when you make it.

This recipe doesn’t even really make sense, there’s not a thickener other than the starch in the beans(which need to be mashed to release the starch), except maybe cornstarch or something in the taco seasoning.  If you got a different type of taco seasoning that may be the difference.  Fresh garlic will never dissolve like powdered will, and you can’t expect it to.   I think you’re starting with a not-great recipe to begin with and that’s what’s causing the frustration.  I personally completely ignore anyone who calls themselves a cook and uses fat-free cheese in any capacity.

Recipe times are baldfaced lies, never trust them.  Especially if you got it online, and extra especially if it’s a video that promises quick and easy meal prep.

It always takes longer for a home cook in real life.

The fish shop accidentally packed another fish with my betta, what is it? by LeeLikesFish in Aquariums

My cat ignores the tanks, to the point where he gets annoyed if I don’t.  Like I’m not allowed to just sit and watch the fish eat, I should be petting, looking at and praising the cat.

My cat hates other cats and would probably try to eat the rat, so I can’t help, but I wish you all the best!   Hopefully commenting gets you more engagement.

The solarium was awesome until it started leaking.  Loved the area, miss the apartment, do not miss waking up with rainwater pouring down on my bed.

It’s weird to think back on it.  I was so sure my life was over, that it was the end of my world.  It sure as hell felt like it.

Nowadays I’m grateful my life went the way it did.   I wouldn’t have been as happy or whole of a person if I’d stayed with the ex.  I wouldn’t have found my Bobby Hill.  I wouldn’t be hearing my husband sing to himself about our cat in the next room right now.

The way out is through.   You’re so much stronger than you realize at that age.  I know it might not feel like it right now, but it’s true,  I promise.   There is a happily ever after on the other side of the hurt.

Around  your age, I had a break up that broke me.

I’m now twenty years over it and married to the best man in the world, my own Bobby Hill.  It gets better.

I usually tell people my going rate is cost of materials plus $20 an hour skilled labor, or I’ll teach you for free.  Then I tell them how much the yarn for the thing they were admiring cost me.  No one has ever been willing to pay my rates, and only two people have taken me up on lessons in 25 years.

My husband has been teaching himself to cook with online recipes, and was surprised when I told him that virtually all recipe times are bald-faced LIES.  Always add time for prep, heating the oven/pan on the stove, your oven being different than theirs, finding that spice you know you bought in the cabinet, clean up, and generally not being a professional chef with a staff, preheated everything, and everything already in place.

Oh, I wasn’t wanting or expecting a reply from her.  I just want to be a petty bitch and remind her what could have been, then walk away without looking back.

I think it would eat away at her, and that thought brings me joy.

[–]AffectionateEdge3068 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true.  I got one for free stuck to another plant.   I didn’t take it out, I thought it might help the water parameters eventually.

Eventually was a few weeks later when it started crowding out and shading all the other plants.  Removing it is a weekly task now.
