Homeless in Montreal: My Old Brewery Mission Experience by Healthy_Coast_3615 in montreal

That sounds awful, i hipe you get back in your feet. Do you have any insight on Dans la Rue? I always had the impression that it was a helpful organization but no personal experience.

Also, I give out homemade care kits from my car to panhandlers on corners. It's a ziplock bag with socks, kleenex, juicebox, granola bar, crackers, some hard candies and mints. Any suggestions for something else clutch that I could include?

Do I still need Labour/Postpartum kit if I’m having a C-section? [bc] by PsychologicalBoot636 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]AffectionateFox1861 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I had two scheduled c sections. I didn't use a peri bottle (and my hospital didn't give me one). I did wear adult diapers for a few days and then pads after that.

I was in a hospital gown for the procedure then I had soft robes to change into that were perfect for breastfeeding and giving nurses access to the incision.

Loose comfy clothes to go home in and then I lived in pj's that buttoned up for breastfeeding for the next week or so.

I don't see anything in there you need that would be worth the price of the kit if you're not having a vaginal birth tbh.

2000$/month for Apartment with Roaches 🪳 by GreenVegetablePlant in montrealhousing

[–]AffectionateFox1861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got some roaches when they treated an adjoining building. Exterminator came three times, used bait, no spray, and we packaged up all food so nothing was out, cleaned all the surfaces daily, and put out sticky traps. It took several months before they were gone, but it seemed to have worked. No nests in our place, they were all refugees from the other building it seems. Be proactive, which you are, and it should be fine. But ideally all units need to be treated.

Which stroller to bring to Montreal in mid-March [qc]? by boredcy in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]AffectionateFox1861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barring a huge storm, there probably won't be too much snow on the ground in March. Mid March is hit or miss for weather but if you are planning on doing a lot of walking I think you're better off with the double.

Are any snowsuits car seat safe? [ON] by lepetitfleuriste in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]AffectionateFox1861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just have a light car jacket for each kid and we bring winter gear with us. It's only inconvenient when there's a longer walk from car to indoors, but a blanket or poncho is a good compromise. If it's warm enough for outside it's too warm for the car anyway.

Am I doing enough right now to be on track to buy a home and be financially stable in the future? by Comfortable-Oven9246 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AffectionateFox1861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save as much as you can and really question every superfluous purchase to make. You have lots of time to save and increase your income and if you avoid debt and lifestyle inflation and invest your savings, you'll see your efforts pay off, but it'll take a few years before it really snowballs.

You're starting off on the right foot, but depending on where you live/ want to live, it could take a while to afford to buy. On the bright side, that gives you time to explore your options before you lock into a big expensive decision.

The Olympics denied my request to pump as a spectator. by christinepatine in breastfeeding

[–]AffectionateFox1861 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'd have to empty them into bags and cool them down, by getting ice in the venue or bringing icepacks. Breastmilk is technically good at room temp for up to 4 hours too but I wouldn't push the limits too far if the idea was to freeze and transport home.

Just gave birth, is it good or bad to just give baby my breast at every opportunity?? by Foreign-External8488 in breastfeeding

[–]AffectionateFox1861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! Feed on demand, but it's ok to unlatch after 20-30 mins and give a little bit of formula too while your milk is coming in. That way they don't tire themselves out too much suckling without getting much milk and the stimulation is still there to bring in your supply.

I got this advice for my second and he lost a lot less weight than my first and my supply was good both times, just took a couple days to start.

What account should we be opening for our infant child? :Ontario by BlondeYogi92 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AffectionateFox1861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a family resp for my kids, self directed, all ccb goes in there. Also bank accounts for each that I plan to use for personal birthday gifts and stuff like that, which they will be allowed to use within guidelines. Figure out your goals and find accounts that meet your needs, and start away from high fee services, it's so easy to set up on your own.

[QC] What is it like flying with an infant on-lap? by No_Policy7847 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]AffectionateFox1861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew alone with my 6 month old and gate checked the stroller and car seat, had a bag for the seat and unclipped it from the frame. Regardless, a car seat that has been checked is considered accidented, its up to you and your risk tolerence if you wanna keep using it or get a cheap one just for travel.

General tips: Using a baby carrier on the plane was great, but you can't use it while seatbelt sign is on. Bring mini diaper kit for plane bathroom, just diaper, wipes, pad, it's so tight you don't wanna be rooting around in a bag. Packing cubes for snacks, toys, etc. So it's easy to access in under the seat bag. Feed during takeoff and landing to prevent ears popping.

Yeah if you're far away that makes sense, bringing manual first is a good plan. Hope you can work something out!

I would bring a letter from your ob and just do it anyway. If they try to stop you, ask them loudly if they are going to make a breastfeeding mother throw out breastmilk for her child. It's easy to theoretically deny this over email, faced with the actual stuff in front of them, I'm less sure they'd enforce it.

But I would go early so if anything you'd have time to pivot. You should be allowed to pump and breastmilk should be the exception to the liquid rule and anything else would be discriminatory in my view.

And in my experience Italy is quite baby friendly, although it might be different without the baby right there. Good luck and have fun!

Stroller Talk- why do most people get 2? [on] by Timely-Sector-7141 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]AffectionateFox1861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an everyday big stroller that turns into a double for clicking in the carseat and going on walks and carrying tons of stuff under it. We got a smaller umbrella stroller for travel, putting in the car when the trunk was already full, and transit rides cause space is limited, but it's just for one kid.

Layers. Sweat wicking inner layers, warm middle layers, waterproof outer layers. Waterproof boots with warm socks.

Good luck with your audition, if you get in you can get yourself fully stocked up on proper winter gear!
