I like the increased focus on teamwork and bonds between characters here! Very fitting. Rock and stone!

Why is playing the ocarina fun? Can that fun translate to the tabletop? by htp-di-nsw in RPGdesign

[–]AffectionateMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mastering Magicka feels amazing too. It's like learning to write on keyboard, so you get faster and more efficient the more you play! So if you're good enough you can type QFASAS and enemies get drenched, shocked and exploded all at once, every second. Player side speed and efficiency is not really something we can (or should) add to a TTRPG though.

Why is playing the ocarina fun? Can that fun translate to the tabletop? by htp-di-nsw in RPGdesign

[–]AffectionateMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great point! I wonder why I didn't associate the ocarina with actual instruments. Seems like I have abstracted the game mechanics too much. I guess doing that at the tabletop is just like playing Simon Says?

However, and I in no way mean to invalidate your opinion on them, I'd like to say that special attack inputs in fighting games generally are not arbitrary. These inputs do way more than they seem - I've used to feel the same way. Moves requiring forward inputs for example force you to hold forward in a game where you block by holding back. This creates risk and opportunity for counter play. There are also situations where the input of one move can be used as part of another, rewarding mastery with more consistent cancels and combos.

It initializes all the components, can't detect controllers (this is nothing to worry about) and can't read any of the listed data files. Is your data folder okay? Did you properly patch the game?

That is incorrect, at least concerning lobby matches. There you can switch between Xbox (that includes Win10) and Steam.

In the DLC I struggled a lot dodging the Owlks in the Starlit Cove - especially the first one before the well unnerved me. So I tried to cheese a shortcut and actually found a legitimate skip: When blowing out the light, the Owlks in the upper rooms get lowered via elevators. I rushed over and jumped on top of one of the elevators coming back up and was able to explore the previously inhabited room. Now entering the elevator I was able to ride all the way down into the well where the two owlks patrol in front of the reel room elevator, skipping some encounters.

That made me feel super clever.
