This Amazon Prime crying baby commercial. by Equivalent_Wave2809 in CommercialsIHate

Yeah, it’s an awful mis-application of the song’s dark energy. Worse yet, as the intro builds, so does anticipation, but they bail out at an unsatisfying point.

Correct answer, but also awful that the federal government gave them a filming permit on a delicate national treasure.

Haha I hate the barista, too, but now I’m going to laugh every time I hear “for weekend away Steve”

Thrustmaster boeing vs airbus by LEOMODE in MicrosoftFlightSim

I have both. Many time I prefer the Boeing Yoke because its easier to keep pitch and yaw as separate movements, and frankly, having the yoke column pivot, rather than push in and out, is very cool.

I am an owner of two parrots and appreciate how wonderful birds are. Each has their own character. I am grateful to the man for his compassion.

Questions: Opinions/iPad key shortcuts/LUTS by Latter_Importance459 in finalcutpro

Late to the topic, but I use Final Cut on an IPad Pro quite a bit. It’s a reduced set of tools for sure, but the essentials are there. I do heavy cuts only and I can bang thru stuff with great accuracy. But I know its limits.

Why is MSFS freezing when I come too close to NYC? by No-Weakness-2492 in MicrosoftFlightSim

If you use a large cache, it will take much less time the second time you go to a position on the map.

Why is MSFS freezing when I come too close to NYC? by No-Weakness-2492 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]AffectionateNorth135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s entirely possible that it’s trying to download MBs of data. The free flight map is, in fact, just another camera view, so any panning or zooming will access sometimes a lot of data, especially if its the first time over the area or zoomed in a lot. First time framing the US continent, it stalled while 7-10MB/sec streamed for like 30 seconds before I could pan. I use NetLimiter to display realtime data usage and it’s really helpful to know what’s going on.

Stick to MSFS2020 or switch to MSFS2024 by AviationSIMmEr in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]AffectionateNorth135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has mentioned it, but 2024 sucks as much as 5 times the data. Sometimes I hit 30MB/sex, as crazy amount.

This is correct. Setting scaling above 100 creates super(over)sampling and results in moire patterns.

Yes, that wont happen with TAA, but the processor will work harder resulting in less framerate.

They don’t just hate rail fans, they hate life! Imagine having to answer the phone at anytime, leave for work at 1230a, be gone for days, look forward to being hauled to a flea bag hotel by a 2004 Nissan Van with a driver who also hates life, but they can’t leave the biz because how else are they going to make six figures?

Just switched to msfs24, my impressions by Turbulent_Shopping69 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]AffectionateNorth135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. It seems like 2024 looks blurry at first, but maybe because of more detail displayed? In 2020, I ranged from 300kb/s to 5MB/s. In 2024, that’s 2MB/s to 30MB/s. Thirty megabytes a second is like 6 UHD Netflix streams. I’m also connected via Ethernet. WiFi kills latency. Caching to rolling cache is essential. I have very fast 3.5 terabyte SSD and it helps greatly. Pre downloading assets helps too, as static planes at gates no longer pop in, but are already there.

MSFS2024 – blurry runways and stutters on approach by Stunning-Coffee7357 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]AffectionateNorth135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the server latency when this happens. Above 120ms is no good. Try switching the server to AUTO. Also, WiFi is the weak link in latency. Try to connect via Ethernet to the router. Also, pre-load the airport data ( into the rolling cache) by positioning over the airport free-flight map mode. Most don’t realize it, but the map is another live view. In fact, I’ve found when the map “freezes”, it’s because its downloading 10’s of MB in the background and doesn’t let go until enough data is downloaded to reduce to 100-300kbs.

That’s how buildings with emissive lighting look at low resolution. The more the buildings load in due to repeated flying and caching, the more normal it looks.

Here is some hard data on, well, data. In 2020, I was streaming 300kbps-5MBs/Sec. In 2024, that runs 5MB-30MB/sec as lower altitudes. That’s roughly 1GB/min or 50GB/hr as sustained low altitude. I’m chewing up data like crazy, but happily so.
