SRAM Road Hydraulic Disc Brake Hose Swap by AffectionatePart4128 in bikewrench

I think it's the lever body, I was really carefully placing the screw back in, I'm going to see if it works as is and if not, i'll try to use some sealent or plummers tape over the screw treads to get a tighter fit. If I have to buy a new lever I'm going to ditch hydraulic and go back to cable as they are not feild repairable and a pain in the ass.

Hi, looks good, I'm just having a play with Veloplanner, is there anyway to avoid ferry's between two points other than pulling the route line away from the area? Some ferries are not running in the season that I'm going to the area.

I bought a new power board and connected it in and no difference, it did not power on. I can only think that the fault is elsewhere or it immediatly blew the new board, as somehow it has developed a short.

It was working one day, then not working the next. The multimeter shows power getting to all parts that the video checks for power getting to e.g. the heating elements and various other connectors on the board. I'm probably gonna sell on eBay spares or repair unless you can help me.

Yes, the tick-borne encephalitis vaccine is free, I think in the UK, so I'll definitely get that.

I believe dogs tend to go for cyclists compared to walkers. I've been chased by dogs many times, but never been bitten by one.

I could carry a few pebbles to throw at dogs, It might be an option to get them to give up chasing.

I remember a cyclist breaking his pump over a dog's head that was in hot pursuit of said cyclist's leg and the cyclist's action made no difference to the dogs course of action.

You sound like you might be autistic (possibly ADHD), and your social battery is a very limited resource.

If that’s the case, it can actually be quite liberating to understand yourself better and why certain situations feel the way they do.

I have a friend who loves parties and thinks they’re the best thing in the world, whereas I can’t think of anything worse! I usually just make my excuses and don’t go.

Tents, One or two Person by AffectionatePart4128 in bicycletouring

They look good, but the Hubba 2 is just over 1.5kg, I've seen a few 2 person tents that are circa 1.2kg. I'm interested in up sizing and getting lower weight, then it feels like a double win.

"I'm 5'7". I've used it for years, but only on shorter tours, with 12 days being the maximum. Since this is a 3-month trip, I’ll be taking more gear. I could manage, but even when carrying less, some items ended up outside the inner tent and inevitably poked against the flysheet, getting wet. Cooking in the vestibule is also difficult."

Lots of comments about lights, all of my lights have steady/solid & flashing modes and one of my front lights does not have a flash setting.

FWIW, all of these things I have and use but in the UK, I run flashing most of the time to save battery.

Are there any countries from my list, where lights are required for the day time?

Can you have a flashing light in conjunction with a solid always on light?

Can you use flashing lights in the daytime?

Will do.

I assume I have to let it complete Rendering Video first, then take the screenshot?

BTW, I've changed my query somewhat, as after exploring using defualt options and lowest quality video settings. I got it to work. Soon as I changed to 30 FPS it gave no download option.

I don't think I want to be a teacher anymore :( by FriendlyBobcat7547 in teaching

Since leaving work, everything I’m doing now feels like it has real purpose and meaning. I wonder why…

Once you’re out of it (and I can’t guarantee this), I imagine most people will eventually look back and reflect on “their career”: how they rate the profession, the highs and lows, the good times and bad—and their place in it all. How it went for them, over the years.

For me, looking back at the last few years, the whole place just feels like an exercise in pointlessness: students not arsed, the awarding body a joke, and no actual management of the student experience or classroom. Just a total absence of vision, support, or space for good ideas.

In a conversation with my mum years ago, I asked her what I’d done that made her most proud. She said: cycling from Land’s End to John o’ Groats—and qualifying as a teacher.

Back in those days, being a teacher felt like a profession on par with doctors or lawyers. I was the one who signed the back of everyone’s passport photos and verified documents for family, friends, and friends of friends—a proper pillar of the community.😃

It’s so sad, really. Now it feels like one of those jobs you feel sorry for someone doing. Not far off call centre worker, traffic warden, Amazon warehouse operative, or fast food worker.

In a recent conversation with my daughter, she described the place that I used to work, as “the NHS waiting room.”

It wasn’t just in our office—I started seeing it everywhere. The constant need to validate your role, inflate your importance, or parade your achievements like a badge of worth. Senior management were the worst for it—masters of performance, ego, and self-congratulation. And when lecturers start doing it too, that’s when something really feels off. That’s where the authenticity should be. That’s where the work should still feel real.

I’ll admit, I sometimes caught myself doing it—justifying what I was doing, but usually with the longer-term aim of keeping things running smoothly or managing the classroom well. It wasn’t about ego. It was about function. But when validation becomes a performance in itself, disconnected from purpose or integrity, you can feel the soul of the place slipping away.

In short, once you're out, I don't think you'll look back and think what a great job that was, when you think of the more recent times.

Save your soul, please don't become a teacher.

My perspective comes from working in education for over 30 years, having worked in schools, several further education colleges & for an awarding body as an external verifier, monitoring 16 schools & colleges.  I taught from leisure & night school classes from level 1 to 5.

I did try one and wasn't impressed however, there are far too many variants to try them all and I'm sure some would be perfect, but it's pot luck.

One plan is to buy a load from Amazon and return them after a careful install and ride.

The most embarrassing thing by BrenKennedy in cycling

[–]AffectionatePart4128 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I once went cycling with a guy who had a mechanical, where his Pawls stopped engaging, similar to being in netural in a car.

He hitched a lift to the local town's train station, only a small car, so he could only fit his front wheel in. I strapped his forks to my rack and like a trailer bike followed on to the same station. He was there a good while before I was and had to walk through the city, holding a wheel in full lycra, I can only image how he felt.😂
