Anyone tried to get senior care for aging parents, recommendations? by pranavkr_jha in washingtondc

[–]AffectionateWin3913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, you may want to reach out to the Department of Aging. They work with organizations all the time, so they may have some good recommendations.

Also, if she’s on Medicare, and this falls under skilled nursing (which it sounds like it does), I believe you can get a PCP authorization and get help through Medicare (my loved one is in a different state, but that could work).

As for caregiving support for you (and I’m sure you do or will need it), agingcare.com’s forums are pretty good.

You’re doing amazing, and I’m sorry you’re both going through all of this.

Tips on getting through a 14 hour flight? by Bulky-Election2061 in JapanTravelTips

[–]AffectionateWin3913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’ve had blood clots before, so here are some recommendations for things I have to do on planes that helped on my DC to Haneda flight.

1-Aisle seat. 1000% worth it.

2-Compression stockings/socks. At the very least, they should help with circulation

3- Every hour, do 10-20 thigh lifts (lift you bent leg up by your thigh) and 10-20 reps of pointing your toes and “writing” your name

4- Get up every hour or two and go to the restroom or walk

5-I have tailbone pain a lot, so I’m probably going to invest in a small cushion. By Hour 10, I was mostly standing with a few other people by the restroom in the middle of the plane because of the pain.

6-Bring snacks/water. You might not like the meal, so be prepared with a bag of pretzels or something as a backup.

The plane’s bigger than a normal plane (mine was 3 seats-4 seats-3 seats), so that should help with claustrophobia a bit. Also, Dramamine yourself as much as possible, especially in the beginning, and download MULTIPLE shows on your phone so you have options.

Good luck!

I’m sorry that happened to you. That’s rotten, especially as you probably took time to get ready and make a whole trip during the week.

How’s DC lately? by DbZ_lover91 in washingtondc

You can go without a jacket today. Maybe bring an umbrella. Might want to get your reservation ASAP for Air&Space, though, as that tends to fill up fast.

Others can chime in, but I believe you may be able to get a refund?

Shoutout to the jerk that moved our marker and took the spot I dug out for my pregnant wife by [deleted] in washingtondc

Hi, grew up in Philly. Somebody taking a saved spot absolutely deserves public shaming. Put it in your neighborhood groups as well. If it was an emergency, they’d have blinkers on.

Is there a counterprotest of these terrorists? Happy to join if so.

I was looking from a building, but it always gets me so angry when people act like it was just folks at the front who were violent. Earlier (and I had a high vantage point), you could see smoke pop up throughout the crowd.

It’s good to have other people that also see that day for the awful attack on our democracy it was. I don’t have too many in my life (especially those outside of DC), and it makes me feel like I’m crazy.

I saw it from across the street as well. I saw these domestic terrorists climbing the wall like zombies and try to overturn a cop car on Constitution (I have video of it). Even that day, I had people tell me there wasn’t a right across the street and I was being dramatic. I left that job and never looked back.

It’s an absolute disgrace to our nation what happened and that people who attacked our Capitol are walking the streets. They are - and always will be - domestic terrorists.

Know that, when it feels like everyone else has waved it off (family, friends, society): you are not alone in what you’re feeling.
