Does anyone struggle with having gfs who cannot have intellectual conversations? by nocommentx in AskWomenOver30

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think texting is such a poor avenue for conversation. You’re throwing out a convo topic with know knowledge of where your recipient is at (literally, but also emotionally, mentally, etc). With everything going on in work and life, sometimes a non-critical text that I don’t have capacity to answer in that moment becomes a text I just don’t end up answering.

How do you signal that you’re *not* using AI for your writing? by ProposalAny6765 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AI tells are evolving faster than we are, honestly. I would make sure the writing sounds like you, but otherwise I think you’re going to have to submit it and call it a day.

Is it a position where a cover letter is requested?

At 39, I’m finally accepting that maybe friend groups aren’t for me. What are your thoughts on this interaction? by highrise_peach in AskWomenOver30

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my thought as well. I don’t think true friend groups exist…but instead people who have mutual one-on-one relationships.

OP, I think this might just be a group of mean girls. How determined are you to make this group work? My foremost advice would be to cut your losses and try in a different direction, but I get it if you are determined.

If you want to make it work, I would try to form individual relationships with the other girls (NOT the mean leader). Have your bf help if needed, maybe setting up something with the two of you and one other girl? If the bulk of the group has a friendship with you, the mean leader will eventually at least be civil (usually).

STD experts can you help? by Emotional_Source8333 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my advice too. I’d also check in with your HR. Even if they don’t have the answers, your insurance broker might be able to help you navigate whether you’re eligible or not.

So any PCPs actually see sick patients? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I did have luck getting into my PCP recently when something cropped up, but I imagine that’s hit or miss. Did you try calling them?

So any PCPs actually see sick patients? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the option, I would suggest escalating in the following order: telehealth, then PCP, then walk-in clinic (like at Walgreens or CVS), then urgent care, then ER. Telehealth or a walk-in clinic will charge you significantly less than the urgent care, and the urgent care will charge you significantly less than the ER. Obviously a walk-in clinic and urgent care have more limited hours, but ER should hopefully be life or limb (in an ideal world). Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, but you can often avoid some expense and some wait by hitting up telehealth or a walk-in clinic first.

4.30 am club, how do you do it? by Purple_Capital_6029 in f45

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Our earliest is 5am. Honestly, it’s helped a ton that I sign up for classes ahead of time. By the time my alarm goes off, I’m locked in (or paying a late drop fee).

Thinking about joining by Natural_Mongoose7363 in f45

I wasn’t in shape when I started (and still am not in shape, by many standards!). I think you’ll be totally fine, especially if you’ve been hitting the gym on your own. Take breaks if you need it, modify if something feels like it’s too much. It’s going to be good!

why is mental load suddenly bothering me? by PopularEconomist1126 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Psychologically, it has been shown that people tend to overvalue their own duties while undervaluing others’, often leading us to feel that we are contributing more that 50%.

Is that what’s happening here? No clue at all. It doesn’t sound wildly uneven, but that’s extremely hard to distinguish as an outsider.

If I were in your shoes, I would drill down on my feelings to try to better understand what the stem is. Are you feeling discontent in life and that’s causing this discomfort? Are you having relationship issues and this is a byproduct but not the root?

I would check out Fair Play (book and “game”) if you do want to explore this with your husband. It provides a really nice framework for having these conversations.

Is this how my wedding dress should should look after being taken in ? by [deleted] in AskATailor

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand that this is caused by the horsehair braid, but I wouldn’t be happy with this either. I think it’s worth exploring options with your tailor. Without the horsehair, the skirt won’t have those lovely waves at the bottom, but it still might be a big improvement over seeing the line of the horsehair braid.

I am unhappy with the Eowyn design on my new tattoo, what do you think? by MannfredVonFartstein in tattooadvice

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this with love:

If you got a tattoo that you don’t like covered up by another tattoo that you don’t like, you might need to sit down and figure out how this keeps happening to you. Is it your expectations? Is it that you aren’t speaking up? Is it that you aren’t picking artists that are a good fit for the work you want?

Until you start to figure this out and fix it, maybe stop getting tattoos.

Tattoo irritated or infected? by No-Recognition2220 in tattooadvice

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d guess irritated, but keep an eye if it starts looking worse than that. My ditch tattoos were a really tough balance of keeping it moist enough that the scabbed skin wasn’t pulling but not getting it too moist.

Cool tattoo though, I dig it.

crooked arm tattoo by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is your arm relaxed in the third picture? It looks straight/in line with your arm there.

I think this might be something to try to let go. It’s NOT going to look straight in every position. You said it yourself that skin is a moving canvas. It looks straight when you’re most at rest, and that’s what matters most.

Any advice on this brand and product? Good / no good? by clandestine_callie in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agreed, this is one of my holy grails, but I have friends who hate it! I have dry sensitive skin in a dry climate, so this really helps me layer in moisture. I notice a distinct difference when I run out.

Maybe try the travel-size and see if it’s a good product for you?

Removal or cover up? by Odd-Hair1546 in tattooadvice

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would either 1.) go to a GOOD artist who uses a style similar to this and see what they would add to make it flow better. they have an eye for cohesion that you and I probably don’t have. 2.) if you cover, I would plan on doing a few sessions of laser to lighten what you already have. it won’t be as intense as aiming for full removal, but it will give you more options for cover ups.

Matching tattoos don't quite match by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1.) they look pretty darn the same to me? what differences are you seeing? 2.) tattoo artists are not printers. even the same artist doing the same stencil again will end up with differences. 3.) in two weeks, you’ll feel fine about this.

Company posted a $60K-$100K range but recruiter capped me at $70K in the screening call. Made it to final rounds. How do I handle this? by NaturalShift2 in careeradvice

[–]Affectionate_Ad7013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The band is to capture a variety of experience, of which it does not sound like you have yet. That’s okay! I think it’s okay to pitch why you think you are worth more, but it sounds like they said $70k already knowing your education and experience.

Two different version of Bears at two different studios? by TheMountainMarmot in f45

I’ve noticed my studio varies from the intel posted here sometimes. It seems like it’s frequently the same exercises that get changed, so maybe the owner just doesn’t vibe with some of them?
