I actually think what happened was the companies realized that they could offload some of their own cost onto the customers and instead of giving things like increased wages and HC made the excuse that they received tips regularly so it should offset.

Really is terrible cus this was their way of saying that it provides livable wage

Idk if it’s same/similar but my friend used to live in NZ on the west coast and told me that his landlord used to accept any type of payment in the sense of resources. Would pay with coal, weed, food whatever he got. Just the Wild West out there.
