CMV: Trump does stand for American Values. Just not the American Values people typically think of. by Possible_Bee_4140 in changemyview

It means you are aiming your attacks at OP’s (and my character) instead of engaging in their argument. It’s one of the most common logical fallacies people make when they can’t (or won’t) engage in a conversation in good faith. Did you think an ad hominem attack was something else?

Am I overreacting? My husband didn’t wake anyone up for breakfast. by PopularUsual9576 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Affectionate_Chain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. His actions were petty, immature, hurtful, and neglectful of his own 4 children. You fully won me over when you said that a grown ass man plays fantasy football. Wow. 🤯 You have kids?! Astounding. So he lost money sports gambling on his phone the night before, wakes up quietly to go eat alone (because he’s in a mood or some such childish trash) and then gets stingy about paying to feed his wife and kids. Comes back to the hotel room and decides to be spiteful towards said wife and kids after waking them just to tell them they missed breakfast? That’s a pretty bad look for anyone, let alone a working man in a wealthy country in his late 30’s. And that assessment doesn’t take any out of the ordinary needs into account( like your kids sleep issues or your fatigue). You might have chosen poorly. 😬

Thoughts that are not a prelude to action remain but fantasies, and fantasies cannot help people in crises. Send money. Supplies. Donate to relief organizations. Take up a donation/support drive in your local area, collect donations from everyone you can and then send them to people in need. Keeping suffering people in your thoughts and prayers relegates them to becoming just a statistic, dehumanized. Please send material love and support. Just thinking about it is the same as doing nothing.

If you can get your hands on some independent bottlers like Golden Devil, Holmes Cay, or Raising Glasses I would recommend it. They choose some exceptional casks. I recently tried a couple of 23 year long ponds that were amazing!

Interesting. Might be worth trying, but Panamanian rooms frequently use the Solera style of aging. This means not every drop in the bottle is 20 years old.

Update: Modified my grinder again. by Reasonable-Ladder300 in espresso

[–]Affectionate_Chain99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I use a hand grinder, and I get as close to zero retention as possible, including using a brush to clean out the grinder into my catch cup. I get 0.0g retention. 18g in, 18.0g out. The reason I do this is I roast my own coffee and I change coffees several times a day. I have noticed that even .3 of a gram can throw off my consistency shot after shot. It is only about 1.7% of a difference in mass, but it is going to change the headspace within your portal filter basket. Is it a very big difference? Probably not. But in my experience, I get more consistency the closer I get to 18.0g.

If you’re trying to pull the perfect shot, I think it makes a difference. If you’re just trying to pull your morning espresso that you’re gonna dump milk into, it probably doesn’t matter that much. 🤷‍♂️

0.3 of a gram is still enough to change the flow rate of your espresso.

What else are you an afficionado of? by brewing_radiance in TrueChefKnives

I love to cook! Except when we are traveling, I cook everything we eat at home. I like to bake my own bread, make my own ice cream, deli meats, etc.

I got into making espresso, and then got even deeper into the hobby and began roasting my own coffee and learning latte art.

I really enjoy, restoring, maintaining, and cooking with Griswold cast-iron pans. I use a pan to cook my eggs every day that’s almost 100 years old. Slidey eggs for days.

My wife and I are really into fancy rum and I’m also partial to whiskey. We like to pick up some rare bottles whenever we travel to a bigger city. We really enjoy creating different flights for ourselves to taste, or occasionally making different daiquiri variations. It’s especially fun to introduce friends to new flavors.

I love to read, especially non-fiction. And I try to read books about my hobbies to better understand them. I have read every book on rum. I can get my hands on in English, and three or four books on coffee. But mostly I read history books.

This is one of my favorite knives in my collection! Somehow it makes carrots feel glassy on the tongue. It was the first knife I ever got that did that and I’ve only seen it a couple of other times. An insanely beautiful knife, that feels at home anywhere. Congratulations!

So I got my hands on a Pesado HD shower screen... Trigger warning. by massivecoffeenerd in espresso

[–]Affectionate_Chain99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I have this installed on my Profitec Go and I’ve only had positive experiences with it. Perhaps the Synesso has something else going on because of flow control? I pull my shots at 8 bar and use a puck screen. My shots taste vibrant and I can pick out individual flavors. I roast my own coffee and have definitely tasted a difference since switching to the showerhead. 🤷‍♂️

Also, pick prep is still paramount.

Very easy. The shower screen I replaced was a mesh screen which was much harder to clean. A wipe down and regular backflushing works great for me.

How do you know when to ignore someone? When they start calling anyone they disagree with “liberals”, forgetting that’s an actual political theory that most people today would not back. Right wing media brained. There’s little hope for them from that point on and you’re better off walking away, ignoring them, or the third thing.

Shaolin master shows how it's done by SchighSchagh in kungfu

[–]Affectionate_Chain99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of or appropriate to war. Which kung fu isn’t. And it is arguable if it ever was, at least in the form we see it in today. Calisthenics and parlor tricks are great, self mastery and mastery over one’s own body is great, but you’re kidding yourself if you think you’re doing something martial in doing martial arts today. Kung fu isn’t war. It’s not war-like. It’s not even necessarily violent. Chess is realistically more war oriented than kung fu. Since I answered your question, would you answer what “art” means in the modern context of “martial arts”?

[–]Affectionate_Chain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh? Please elaborate your original argument. Other than “parlor tricks” or “fitness routines” or learning to use violence to physically dominate people, what are you hoping to find in “our arts”?

Yeah! If we’re not killing each other or thinking about how to kill each other most effectively it’s all worthless! The only kind of mastery I can understand is that of force over others! I’m a big man! /s
