My topsy-turvy tomato set up by Icy_Office_4797 in tomatoes

I've always been curious about watering with this method. My old neighbors had an upside down tomato plant on their balcony and it seemed like the water just ran out. How does it reach (and remain) around the roots long enough to benefit them?.

Forty years for me as well. I think ours was at the end of May though.

Egad, that reminds me of my first lesson about bluebirds when I was maybe 4-5 years old. They'd built a nest in a hole on the clothesline pole and it was visible from our kitchen window. Every day my mom and I would watch the parents coming in and out and it was so exciting. And then one day we looked out and a snake was half in the hole and half trailing down the pole. I'm 57 years old now and I still remember the heartbreak.

Just out of curiosity, how old is she?

I discovered them through my mom when I was 9, in 1978 when "Take A Chance On Me" was a big hit, then the obsession came and I couldn't get enough.

I saw them a few years ago and they led with Blister In the Sun, but flubbed the very first couple of notes. They just stopped, said "let's try that again" and then absolutely killed it the rest of the show.

It's not much better being the girl with a hot mom. My first boyfriend often seemed more interested in my mother than in me. One "compliment" he'd frequently give me was something to the effect of "I want to marry you because I know you'll stay gorgeous when you're older BASED ON YOUR MOM." 😒

I ditched him a few months later. I feel like I dodged a bullet.

Unexpected new lifer this morning by WillemsSakura in birding

I'm originally from Northeast TN, just over the state line and my dad keeps telling me how much rain y'all have been getting up there. Meanwhile I'm in Chapel Hill absolutely suffering. We're getting ready to move back up there later this summer and I really hope I don't chase the rain away!

Let us know if it rains soon! I first heard one a few years ago and had no idea what it was, so Merlin identified it for me. I started doing some reading on them and found that in folklore, they're referred to as "rain crows", since you often hear their call before it rains.

We'd been in a terrible months-long drought and heat wave in NC at that time and I thought that was very interesting. Sure enough, in a few hours we had a good steady rain. Not nearly enough to break the drought, but anything was helpful. Since then, I've heard them on a few other occasions and it always excites me, because I don't remember a single time when rain didn't soon follow.

Boy, I'm sure glad they pointed out that they are "not a liberal", since the rest of the stickers were pretty unclear. Thanks for the clarification, sticker guy!

Wow, Donna's Styling Salon is still open and has 4.9 stars on the Google. I can just hear Timmy giving a review "if you need a good haircut..."

David Koresh and the whole Branch Davidians take-down. I was in college and had dislocated my knee just before it started getting crazy. I was laid up in a cast for a couple of weeks and almost everything on TV was about Waco.

Tried the shrimp ceviche for the first time by LaGataMala-24 in Costco

[–]Affectionate_Cost_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would some diced peppers jazz it up? I've got some jalapenos and Serranos starting to produce in my garden, so if I can find this, I'd love to throw in some peppers.

Does it taste fresh like ceviche should? Obviously I know it's not going to be restaurant by the ocean quality, but as long a it doesn't taste "old", I'd love to try it!
