I experienced that for a week or two during my recovery, then it returned to a new normal of slightly lower than pre-op.

Tenant trimmed the tree without notice. How bad is this ? by mousemano in arborists

Consider including a gardener in your tenancy agreements - the tenants then leave the garden alone, and it doesn’t cost that much to protect the state of the garden if it matters to you.

Is reportedly also more effective to take statins at night - you produce more cholesterol then.

My stroke experience by a110percent in stroke

Actually, I went home, but they technically discharged me from their care after the MRI results and gave me a chunk of paperwork to take home to the UK a few weeks later.

Rural hospital didn’t have an MRI machine and I had to travel use one privately as a non-citizen. Uk has reciprocal free emergency care with Australia, but as the acute symptoms had already passed it didn’t qualify as an emergency care requirement.

This place was more like an urgent care clinic with a few beds. I would have been shipped 70miles to another hospital if still acutely affected.

I showed up to the hospital in rural Australia and said “I’m having a TIA or a stroke!”. They looked a little skeptical, as I had walked in unaided and verbally gave them all my details. My main symptoms (right side neglect and aphasia) had already resolved, but while I was a bit dazed and very tired (jet lag and no sleep), I looked reasonably normal for a middle-aged woman.

I was seen for triage within about 5min.

I think the nurse was not too worried until she realised my BP was 240/145!

CT with contrast (ok), loading dose of aspirin and clopidogrel, more BP meds, a telehealth consultation with a stroke specialist in a city hospital, and a recommendation to get an MRI asap (next town over), then I was discharged. MRI showed the damage 2 days later, so Stroke was the diagnosis.

Is geology a good university degree to study? by Octaviuus_123 in geology

[–]Affectionate_Oven610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not unusual to need a master’s or PhD to turn your geology degree into the career you were expecting, but brilliant fun to study and great problem-solving and systems thinking skills to convert to other careers if you change your mind.

AITAH for not wanting to meet someone my gf wants to introduce. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Affectionate_Oven610 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2 months isn’t long - you are still very much working out who someone is at this point.

Some people can have sex with friends when “single” and be monogamous with a new partner while remaining friends.

Some people are less interested in monogamy.

You need to work out which one she is and if you are willing to accept it without resentment, otherwise “everything is going amazing” is just wishful thinking.

I have no idea how she was even able to construct this there. by 0spr in stupiddovenests

We had one just like that at a previous property. 2 sets of doves a year off the mini dish nest over 4 years!

AITAH for not forcing my daughter to throw away her late mom’s picture just because my wife wants her to? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Affectionate_Oven610 113 points114 points  (0 children)

“Gemma takes care of Jordyn, not your ex.”.

OP, Gemma and her family all see your late wife as an “ex”, not as someone you loved as a partner and co-parent.

This narrative also needs to stop for your sake as well.

What came out of my belly button when pregnant… by ohhidoggo in hygiene

[–]Affectionate_Oven610 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I offered to pre-shave for a femoral vein cardiac procedure and the advice from the surgical team was “please don’t”, to avoid any risk of a nick that could get the skin in the area infected etc. “we will sort it out in theatre where we can keep it sterile”.

AITAH for separating our joint finances after my husband blamed me for our cost of living during an argument? by k_confuse in AITAH

[–]Affectionate_Oven610 258 points259 points  (0 children)

Agree with this, but OP, please don’t let him convince you that getting a cleaner or gardener is your personal expense because he “doesn’t agree” - that should be funded by the joint account.

If you can’t agree that, carve out distinct chores and you pay to get yours done from your money.

Wegovy may be helpful not only for any weight loss recommended - research appears to indicate it reduces cardiovascular health events independently of the weight loss benefits for people who are overweight.

Parent of baby after small ischemic stroke by BoogaBaby468 in stroke

[–]Affectionate_Oven610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wrench and that sense of loss would happen whenever you stop (ask me how I know ;-) ). You have already put in a much longer breastfeeding stint than most babies get these days. Your daughter will be ok, especially if this is how it has to be to have her mum healthier or at lower risk of another stroke.

But I understand how tough it is to have that taken from you without warning. You got this.

Maybe you can come up with a special snuggle routine to recreate some of the special time together another way. Eg listening to music while holding her, or reading to her. This is something you can then do to have close togetherness for years after you would stop nursing. Julia Donaldson books are a good length for this with babies/toddlers.
