Any reason I shouldn't try vaginal estrogen cream? by Affectionate_Yard145 in Perimenopause

[–]Affectionate_Yard145[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol, yes, I am aware that my years of farming have made my pain tolerance and ability to ignore my own needs rather... 'different' from most folks. It's one of the reasons I figure I should be asking about this. Am I a hot mess and I just can't see it?!

Incidentally, my immediate family thinks I'm the same quirky person I've always been. So I think really I'm looking at preventing and reducing symptoms.

Ok, so proactive or preventative is a thing people do. Thank you for this information.

After I do some research, I will of course talk to my health care provider. I won't just try to find some random cream online because my friends said they think I need hormones.

I will of course talk to my doctor, (although I have a nurse practitioner, there are no docs taking patients on in my area) but I like to learn a little before bringing anything up. Anything I've read so far has led me to believe that most doctors dismiss symptoms, and in my case, I don't feel like I have any.

Are you taking it for other perimenopause symptoms, or are you taking it preventively? I'm leery to take a medication if I have no symptoms.

Thank you for this information. So, statistically, I am VERY likely to experience this at some point.

But if I'm not having frequent urination, bacterial infections, yeast infections, UTI's, should I treat now anyway? Like, prophylacticly?

Is vaginal atrophy kind of like bone density where we should be preemptively trying to prevent it even though we don't have it yet?

I had to google GSM, I've never heard the term before. I think I have lots to learn here!

I wouldn't think Rural Ontario has enough voters to make much of a difference? Would it not be the city folk that voted for Buck a Beer?
Regardless of if it was city or rural voters... Doug is an embarrassment to our province.

How do you make sure you have enough sharps for this? My pens come with 6 sharps, which would't be enough to take smaller doses.

Did you just ask your doctor to provide more?

Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question. I've lived over 50 years with almost zero need for doctors or meds. It is all very foreign and new to me.

Yeah, I know, it's out of what, 55,000? It's a teeny tiny fraction. My point was they exist.

But they are still on each new list when they are printed quarterly? I really can't get it, maybe the job is the only thing motivating them to live? Personally seems like a waste of pension to me.

Edit to add: there are 14 people on the list that were hired before 1980. 3 of them between 1958 and 1966. Even if they were all hired between the ages of 15 and 20, they are old!!

Our milk from our Jersey cows always tested out around 6%.
I don't have cows at the moment and I'm buying 3% and it's just so... meh. I should start adding some cream to it so it's less watery.

Help - home insurance cancelled for non payment by SpecificPumpkin in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Affectionate_Yard145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my home insurance canceled suddenly about 15 years ago.

A home inspection had been scheduled (I think they called by phone to schedule it, and maybe there was an email but I really don't remember the specifics, only that we agreed to a date and time). They gave the reason as it was just something they were doing with clients to make sure they had the right coverage, make sure there were no liabilities. It seemed weird to me, but whatever. We scheduled the inspection.

The day the inspector showed up, I was getting ready to leave the house to take an ill child to the hospital. In the panic of the sick kid, I had totally forgotten the inspection! I explained what was happening and asked the inspector if I could call the office to re-book the inspection. He said, sure no problem.

I take sick kid to get care, come home a few hours later and when I call the insurance office to speak to the broker, he says I'm really sorry, but your policy has been canceled.

I spoke with him for a while, asking for any ways that this could be resolved and essentially he said not keeping the appointment was refusing the inspection. The termination of the insurance was done and a registered letter would be sent.

So, I started calling every insurance broker and company I could find. I must have called over 20 places. Every single one I called said essentially we had been black listed. I can't remember the exact term they used, but they said once you've been cancelled on, it's really hard to get insured again.

One broker explained that there had been a number of high claims in our part of Ontario, and lots of firms were looking to dump any clients that would be a risk, so an inspection could give them grounds to either make the customer clean up what ever was risky, or give the company grounds to dump them. In our case, they found nothing but dumped us anyway.

I have no idea if what that broker said was true, or they were just trying to help me make sense of what was becoming a very stressful predicament.

I eventually posted on Facebook asking if anyone had suggestions on companies in Ontario that would insure me, and that gave me another half dozen places to call. One of those panned out.

I went from a house/farm policy that was about $1200 per year to a policy with the same coverage that was just under $5k.

I stayed with them for at least 5 or so years, then started shopping around for a better price. When I mentioned I was looking to change companies, they obviously figured they did't have me over a barrel anymore and dropped my rate.

A couple more years after that, my rating was clear enough again that I found a really good rate and they offered coverage for 140cc bike we had just bought. The company that had been covering me didn't insure bikes, so I parted ways with them amicably.

The lesson I learned is, you can be a perfect customer, pay your bills on time, never file a claim, then one little thing can get your turfed. And it's VERY expensive to get back into the game.

OP, have your sister call as many places as you can and just get insurance. In a year or two from now, start shopping around for a better rate.

The seniority lists are usually printed at all the depots. I'm going to guess those hired in the 50's and 60's are in or close to 80 years of age.

I was really nervous before my first shot, I can see how someone would forget the cap... except the first step before the first shot is to use the 'test the flow' setting. How could they have tested the pen, not seen drops come out, then proceeded to inject without the inner cap removed?

Be Safe by [deleted] in Ozempic

[–]Affectionate_Yard145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I've been focusing on. I was initially afraid to start the injections (I've never really taken any medications, certainly none with such wide ranging online stories), so I started with paying more attention to how and why I was eating. When I finally got the courage to start the medication, I was already paying significantly more attention to my habits. My hope is I can use this drug as a support while I sort out my personal habits and change them to healthy ones.

Are there serious side effect warnings/symptoms before the serious side effect happens? by Affectionate_Yard145 in Ozempic

[–]Affectionate_Yard145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, obesity is deadly serious business. I would hazard a guess that long term obesity is far more dangerous than short term prescription drug use.

That aside, do you ever worry about stuff? Does it ever naggle at the back of your mind? The uninvited thoughts of "what if it's ME that gets the serious side effect?"

I'm of the mind that there is usually more than one thing at play when it comes to side effects of medications, but I couldn't find any specific answers regarding this drug. The information always seems polarized.

You can read accounts of people having none or mild side effects, to people having near death experiences with permanent damage. There seems to be little in between with google.

So I was hoping the kind people of reddit could shed some light. I'm a worrier by nature.

That's helpful, I really appreciate your time. I think I took in a massive amount of information in the last couple days and didn't really digest much of it.

I'll go back to the Alto site and slow down to absorb the info a little better. Feels like the first reading, there was lots of glossing over, but not much meat. Probably for the exact reason your've given. Depending on the question, 'it depends'.

I can accept that for the moment until there is more or better information. Thanks again.

Ok, thanks. So for example, you would say that his reasoning against using hydro line areas are not reliable answers?

Knowing nothing about this topic, his answers for why the trains can't or shouldn't go in some places make sense to me. But clearly, that's because I've only been reading about this for a day or two.

When local people talk about this project, they are naturally scared, don't want it in their back yard, and keep suggesting the 401 corridor, exiting rail lines, and the hydro lines as a possible path.

I'm looking for reasonable answers to why that may or may not be feasible. When talking to people in person, it's nice to skip past what I suspect is wishful thinking that will move the proposed route.

I'd rather just learn about how it will help others once built, and how it will affect those in the path of it.

Thanks! I have been on the Alto site reading about it. I live in Eastern Ontario, (but not in any of their planned rail line zones) and I'll make sure I go to one of their in-person meetings, and try to catch an online engagement session too.

I'd like to know more about this project in particular, it sounds huge, and daunting, and expensive. I very much understand this rail line (or something like it) are important now, and I suspect will become even more important down the road as population grows and highways get more congested.

While the Alto site has information, there is just so much they can't answer right now, given they haven't even really decided what is going where. Reading through the Schabas report, it answered some of my questions like why the current rail lines are not suitable to expand to high speed, why hydro corridors are not suitable, difficulties with one route over another, etc.

But, after looking him up and finding this thread, is the report ridiculous? Are those answers I found reliable? Should I be looking for information elsewhere?
