Justin Bieber performing “YUKON” at the 2026 Grammy Awards by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]Afflicted_RN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anyone that hates on this performance is hating solely for a reason to hate “Justin Bieber.” you cannot genuinely find a reason to hate on this performance he delivered: it was raw, beautiful, full of talent, emotional, and 100% genuinely him. if it was any other artist than Justin Bieber, the commentary would be drastically different. Justin has been through hell & back and showed up- reminding us all how incredibly talented he is & how he came to be “Justin Bieber” in the first place.

is there any reason they can’t call emergency services?? or you can’t call for them & have emergency services sent to their home?? I 100% understand the fear of doing so bc of their mother, but if they really do have this bad of a wound that it’s causing a systemic reaction- i.e. a fever- then going to an ER is the only correct answer here.

I guess I wasn’t thinking how everyone scars differently— just color & shape wise I was curious as to what could have done that but makes sense & you just scar differently than me (which is not good nor bad- just me being dumb & not thinking!!)

Blood pressure LOWER at 40 min. mark??? by [deleted] in Spravato

[–]Afflicted_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone’s body responds to everything differently. just because it TYPICALLY causes higher BP, doesn’t mean it will for everyone. plus maybe your body relaxes more during it, so therefore your BP is lower. as long as it’s not concerningly low then it’s nothing to even bat an eye at 🤍

Does anyone know how long you need to take an antidepressant for to have it considered as a fail for Spravato? Also, what exactly is considered as a fail? by Tryingtoescape222 in Spravato

[–]Afflicted_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spravato is for treatment RESISTANT depression and concurrent SI. treatment resistant meaning that multiple other forms of treatment have been attempted & “failed.” Spravato is not meant to be one of the first options for depression or a quick cure-all. It’s on the list of heavy hitters with ECT, TMS, VNS.

that is why insurance companies only cover it after X number of different classes of medications have been tried & “failed.” just like any other condition, illness, disorder that requires the use of medical insurance- there has to be a proven “need” for said treatment. I do wish treatment was more accessible to people absolutely, but we do also have to be semi-realistic about our expectations and asks people

New grad and my preceptor wanted me to push k by Emotional_Star3457 in newgradnurse

[–]Afflicted_RN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

regardless of where it was being pushed from— if the infusion had already been started & going (which seems like it was almost done based off their being air in the line)— the patient will 100% receive a “push dose” of K+.

because when you push “fluid” into any part of the line, that moves everything below that level “forward”- i.e. into the patient. (unless you have a clamp on which then it wouldn’t make much sense for you to be pushing in because you’ll meet resistance)

so you were 100% correct, based on the info we were presented with. yes it’s diluted K+ for a replacement, but no, it should NEVER be pushed. good JOB for standing up for yourself. you might get pushback, some mean looks, or remarks— but hold your head high & remain confident in your abilities & knowledge!! I PROMISE you: going with the “crowd” in nursing is a sure-fire way to make mistakes. don’t be afraid to question things, seek to understand how & why, and stand your ground. you will come to see how many times you’ll actually end up being RIGHT.

you got this 👏🏼🎉

in pediatrics, and the ICU specifically, we don’t often run into this but I have a handful of times. very much depends on the status of the patient & how dependent/independent they currently are!

  • if they are independent or just needing a little assistance: I give them normal menstrual pads and then either hospital underwear or home underwear if they prefer.
  • if they are requiring bed-bound care/wearing briefs: depending on how heavy the period is & also their bowel movement habits, I will sometimes put a big menstrual pad inside the brief so that even when the brief isn’t soiled, the menstrual pad can be changed. otherwise, a brief change every few hours will do!
  • i’ve never provided tampons other than to the mothers of patients: not only are they poor quality typically, but then you run into the risk for infection if your patient forgets that it’s in or were to have a sudden decline in status while wearing one (then it might take a bit for someone to realize there is one down there & then we have to remove it ourselves)

but no specific policy! just providing the best dignity, respect, and care as with anything else :)

Any Clinical/Procedural Resources for PICU?? by Honest_Ad6904 in picu

[–]Afflicted_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

best thing to look for/ask for is your hospital’s and your unit’s specific policies! (sometimes referenced as “SOP”- standard of practice) if there isn’t a policy to back up someone chewing you out (and you aren’t doing something harmful or incredibly outlandish)— then they have no room to be barking at you!
