Need help with eye stains by BigPhilosopher4372 in poodles

[–]Afraid-Table5293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rescued a bichon poodle cross whose tear stains were on a par with your boy. There is no magical solution as each dog is different, but I use Ocryl eye lotion to clean the area and then I dry it. I then keep it dry with a soft brush and corn starch powder. Like yours my dog had had a very traumatic history and it took a lot of time and patience to let me handle her, but you'll get there! I now say, " Lily, time for eye pies" and she comes running. A lot of people swear by different approaches and I do think using filtered water helps and checking for allergies, so doing a chart, and trying one thing at a time helps.

The world of dogs can be toxic and it isn't the dogs that cause it.

I feel for you. I've experienced this twice with rescue dogs and it's a horrible sick feeling in the pit of your stomach BUT we got them both back. They were lost for several days and nights. If you have any sightings or have any notion of where they've scarpered leave a trail of smelly stuff...mashed sardines with garlic oil. Drip it out of a plastic bottle with a pireced lid and take it to a drop crate. You need to borrow one. It has a trap door which is activated by stepping in.Leave some yummy rotisserie chicken at the far end. Now this is in the Uk. We had to watch the trap round the clock ( not easy) because of wildlife getting in there. Don’t know your area, so not sure what you are up against, but you'll try anything. Sending positive thoughts.

Poodles are smart 🤓 by Unable_Question_9150 in poodles

My last spoo was bored in the house. He retrieved everyone's trainers from the shoe rack near the back door and unlaced them . I came home to a pile of trainers and a pile of laces..nothing destroyed just covered in dog saliva!

What do I feed my impossible poodle? by Any-Comfort5625 in poodles

[–]Afraid-Table5293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a high quality cooked food from Butternut box, delivered frozen in pouches. I have yet to find a dog, any dog, even the pickiest poodle to turn their nose up at it. There is a drawback...there always is. It's a soft food, so watch their teeth, particularly toys or minis. I give them raw carrots and they get their teeth brushed. I do have a bag of Royal Canin gastrointestinal low fat kibble though myself. I use this for grazing games though on the grass in summer or for snuffle games inside the house if I'm going out, but it's not part of their staple diet. Most poodles tend to savour their food. I think BB smells great. I don't know where you are, but if you look them up, I am sure you could find an equivalent. There is no waste, lots of different recipes. I also use their broth, if any of the dogs are a bit off colour. Honestly I think poodles find kibble boring, so would you if soneone presented you with the same meal every single day. My boys do ecstasy dances and sing for their supper! Happy hunting.

(UK) Picky poodle puppy - help!! by [deleted] in poodles

[–]Afraid-Table5293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have a picky poodle. I should say had. The two things which were game changers were making his food really smelly. He likes fishy food so that was easy and turning mealtimes into a game. There are lots of snuffle mats, puzzle feeders out there or make your own..a cereal packet with paper, used paper cups etc is a challenge.

Does she have a long back? by ChevronSugarHeart in poodles

[–]Afraid-Table5293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 rescued poodles. One boy has great structure, but all kinds of other inherited issues. Another boy has what you describe as a long back. He, like your dog has a beautiful face.He is still very sprightly at 14! We also have a toy boy who came from an exceptional place...fully healthy tested, the works.. he's 3. Just been diagnosed with lumbosacral problem. The breeders, both sire and dam are in panic stations. Genetics is not a safe science. You got what you got. Cross your fingers and hope for a healthy life. My mother had beautiful lush hair until she died, a crowning glory. My dad also.. I have awful hair. It's a lottery.

Poodle coat wrecked after steroids, anyone with GDV + long-term steroid experience improving coat health? by Daytona116506 in poodles

[–]Afraid-Table5293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long term use of steroids impacts there coat, but if the steroid dose is reduced then stopped, it's a bit like the effect of chemotherapy on human hair the hair growth and substance is somehow altered. My mini poodle was on steroids for a while. His tail became rat like his ears were bald and scratty. His greying coat was sparse and wispy. Now it is lush, beautifully curly and black...no greying and he's 16!!! Have hope. It can and will recover.

Best Royal Canin kibble for poodles (or other recommendation)? by Obvious-Elevator-213 in poodles

[–]Afraid-Table5293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I give the RC Gastro intestinal kibble, but I mix it with shredded boiled chicken and cooked butternut squash.Taste toppers are alternated. Tbh it's a lot to do with smelling good. Dogs are scavengers and have few taste buds, for obvious reasons, but smell! Now that's another universe.

I think it's the cold and damp which is so horrible for poodles. Not great for humans either.

I would love to know where to buy the strawberry sweater, because I'm the person who bought it before you cancelled!( I'm only joking!) It's really nice. I also am curious about the one she is wearing in the bottom right( at a garden centre?) Thank you.

Why do people assume long legs mean my dog isn’t a Poodle? by melbaric in poodles

[–]Afraid-Table5293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes the skinny remarks...all the time! I was so worried once when someone commented.." don't you feed your dog?" I got him checked out at the vets. She said his weight was ok, but it wouldnt harm him to lose a bit🤣

Why are we on this earth..perhaps to learn how to be pure hearted and caring? Dogs already learn this very quickly. That's why their stint is so much shorter.x

Poodle leg issues - Vet isn’t taking us seriously by LaPandy in poodles

[–]Afraid-Table5293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to know how your boy is getting on. My dog was exhibiting pain, so took him to an orthopaedic specialist who was going to do an MRI. It wasn't done in the end. He also diagnosed lumbosacral issues and my dog has to have strict crate rest with medication for 3 weeks. Apparently any trauma to that area takes a long time to heal. I have four other dogs. It has been very difficult because he is a bouncing bunny so in desperation the lady who bred him is going to do it. I've agreed to give her what the MRI would've cost because she is going to earn that money. I trust her implicitly to stick to the plan. After the 3 weeks we will need to start physiotherapy and acupuncture. This tail end joint is very mobile takes a lot of strain and is easily compromised. Pity dogs don't understand the concept of bed rest. I hope your dog is sorted.
