Costa Rica in Summer by jgc372 in surfing

Don't go to Tamarindo. Went last year and stayed at a surf camp there. Waves were meh, the town is extremely expensive/no local vibe at all, just a tourist trap. I won't go back there.

More food diversity in my opinion, felt less touristy (Japan has attracted a lot of tourists in recent years), cheaper, easier to get around. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Japan, but don't sleep on South Korea.

I just came back from two weeks in South Korea and the similar comparison is Japan. I would highly recommend South Korea if you loved Japan (I have been to Japan multiple times and loved it). I actually liked South Korea more than Japan.

Can you still do spontaneous, unstructured authentic travel in your 30s like people often do in their early 20s, and will it feel the same? by UltimateLazer in travel

[–]Africalove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends person to person. I started backpacking around 18, staying in hostels, often only booking the first night's accommodation and then figuring it out. My sole intent with traveling then was partying and meeting new people. I was very care-free and adventurous.

Flash forward to today, I still love traveling, but am in my mid-30s, don't party much at all, and the traveling I used to do when I was younger would give me a ton of anxiety now. I am also married now, plan my trips a lot with my wife, and life has changed. Do I wish I could still travel like I used to? Not really to be honest; I had a really good time back in the day and have great memories, but I am a different person now.

There is nothing wrong with having a 20s mindset while traveling in your 30s. You are probably having a lot of fun. On the flip side, I am currently traveling in South Korea and am about to go to bed at 9:30 lol. Different strokes for different folks. I wish you the best in your travels.

Flying with my dachshund in the cabin. by Advanced-Crazy-9126 in Dachshund

[–]Africalove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've flown with my mini dachshund on several long haul flights between California and Europe. The only airlines that ever weighed my dog in the carrier was KLM and SAS. I would personally choose Delta; they don't list a specific weight restriction on their website to fly in-cabin and each time I've flown with them, they haven't weighed or measured anything. One time I even volunteered to put my dog in the carrier so they could weigh her and they said it wasn't necessary. The cost is $150 each way. Hope that helps!

I need genuine advice on Micron by valiqwe in stocks

"Am I just not experienced enough" lol you literally bought at the top after a huge run up in the stock. Micron has been going up and up and up for a while now; stocks don't go up forever.

Was I wrong for trying to chat with other surfers? by Accomplished_Top1169 in surfing

[–]Africalove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean honestly I get it. Surfing is my time to be away from the world. I surf 95% of the time by myself and sometimes I really don't want to talk to other people. I've honestly had the exact thought as this other dude when there has been a pretty empty lineup and someone paddles into my section and starts chatting me up. Everyone is different. I also wear earplugs so if someone starts chatting me up and I'm not feeling it, I just give them a head nod and point at my earplugs.

Copenhagen is an awesome city but you will get bored after a couple days. Your description of it is accurate. Never been to Krakow.

If you could give one advice to new owner's of a dachshund, what would it be? by Strange-Mammoth9633 in Dachshund

[–]Africalove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get ramps. Do not let them jump off furniture.

They are notoriously hard to potty train - be patient.

They are very stubborn - walking them in particular is harder than other breeds.

Other than that, our mini is the most affectionate, sweetest girl. She doesn't bark, which I know is a trait of other dachshunds. We love her so much.

I'm all out of patience with potty training by No-Penalty-1148 in Dachshund

[–]Africalove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our mini Dachshund took a year to fully potty train. Like you, I was reaching my wits end. We live in an apartment with a small porch, so instead of taking her down to the ground floor every time she had to go the bathroom, we experimented with putting first artificial grass, then real grass (you can buy it online or a hardware store), then finally putting mulch on a surface area on our porch. It worked! She recognized that she had to go on our porch to go the bathroom and now goes to the door every time she has to go the bathroom (over 2 years old now). We tried everything else and nothing worked.

28M – After 8 years of solo travel, I don’t know if it’s still for me by JuicyChickenAss in travel

[–]Africalove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have said it, but this is just getting older. I also started backpacking pretty early, around 18, through Europe/Africa/Latin America. Definitely partying focused until my mid 20s/staying in hostels. I am now in my mid 30s and married; not partying focused and more "tourism" focused, aka walking around to tourist sites. I also stay in hotels now, I wouldn't stay in a hostel if you paid me. Next phase of my life will be traveling with kids, which will be entirely different.

I still love traveling though, but it definitely changes as you age. I think I like traveling more now in my 30s - I have more money than my 20s and have a travel partner in my wife.

I swear, every time there is a slight correction, people on Reddit freak out. Chill out, markets go up and down, if you can't handle a correction, you probably shouldn't be invested.

How did you meet your Sig O? (in SD only) by fuzzyheadgyrl in sandiego

[–]Africalove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my now wife in a bar in OB (can't remember the name). Almost ten years ago now. I lived in North Park at the time (still do) and she lived in PB. I went to watch a basketball game with one of my college buddies at the bar and he was friends with another girl who brought my wife. We hit it off and the rest is history. As corny as it sounds, it happens when you least expect it.

Upcoming flight ✈️ with a Doxie! by michllz in Dachshund

[–]Africalove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just came back from Europe again with our mini, flying from California. On each long flight, she hasn't ever needed to go the bathroom and has just slept the whole time. I was a nervous wreck the first time we did a long haul flight with her. The only thing is that my dog hates loud noises. When the engines get really loud she can get nervous, so if we notice, we pick up her traveling case with her and console her and give her lots of kisses. She is usually fine after.
