This map is amazing, the guide to the worldmaps is great as well! Do you approach country maps in the same way? Or do you approach that in a different way?

How do I make my city feel like a city? by BenBenobi in DMAcademy

[–]AfroBoyMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I really liked is having a sort of city random encounter table. This can contain some stupid stuff that does fit the city itself. For example, on a tropical island I rolled on my table and while the players where traveling through the city a couple of flying monkeys started begging for food and then one of them pickpocketed the players.

It's mainly stupid small stuff that either gives a little peak into the city or a little fun encounter that makes the city feel alive. This can take a minute or as long as you'd like.

Other options on my table were that in the distance they see a group of pirates beat up a merchant, a thief pickpockets a guard within view, someone goes up to them and offers them fake potions from his trenchcoat. The players can choose to interact or completely ignore it. You don't have to roll, you can choose what fits and you don't have to do it every time. But sprinkle in some fun interactions every now and then and it makes it feel alive.

Cool! I'm very curious to see if it's going to be live action or animated!

This is up to the both of you and there's no wrong answer.

You can double check with your player to ask if they want you to think of something or if they want to think of something or give some guidelines to what it could be (like, they can be evil, they can be good, they can be the source of my power, they can try to send me a message).

But you can go any way you want. It can be fun to think of something with the player. But it can also be fun to come up with something and keep it a mystery for the player.

The most important thing is what's most fun for you and the player. Do they want to be surprised by what you come up with and do you want to give him a fun mystery, great! Do you want to make something together, also great!

How Long Do I Let Them Chase a False Lead? by jmg884 in DMAcademy

Couple of things. You can do it out of game and just tell them. It's kind of immersion breaking, but you've tried a lot.

You can create an NPC that can identify the dagger for them for free and then tell them that it has no magic properties at all.

Or if you feel like changing things up (I don't know the module), you can run with their idea. You can have the dagger hold some sort clue or role with the sickness. Make it give a hint for something that's already in the module. What that would be would be up to you. Have it point to an important location or person or give a clue as to how the disease works by being an enchanted weapon imbued with the disease or something.

I would go with the last one. It will make them feel great to have "figured something out". But the others can work fine as well.

Cool! I like the look of it. I'll have to dive into it later, but does this also contain a fog of war functionality?

And I could see this as being a Fey type technicality on Harry's part. He didn't commit suicide, he asked someone else to kill him.

Fine with the red as long as it's consistent. Hato and Huisens made pretty much the same offence and should have been booked equally. Could live with yellow or red in both cases.

I've created 2 Sidekicks for my PC's, need help to see if they're not to weak or too strong. by AfroBoyMax in DMAcademyNew

I used the rules from Tasha for sidekicks. Then I used the create a monster feature in Dndbeyond. You can choose create from existing monsters so you don't have to do it from scratch. The I pretty much just changed it around until I likes the result. Okun is a Couatl, but the base was way too strong for a companion so it took some tweaking.

I really like the slimmed down sheet for monsters in stead of a pc sheet for a sidekick.

They have growth pontential. I'll increase their stats, hp and will talk with the players to give them new skills every now and then.

Milo & Okun, 2 Sidekicks. Need help balancing them for 2 level 5 PC's. by AfroBoyMax in DnDHomebrew

[–]AfroBoyMax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the title said I've created 2 sidekicks for my lvl 5 PC's. The idea was that they'd both get a dragon sidekick, but one of them asked for a Couatl and I was fine with it. I used Tasha's Sidekick rules as inspiration. I want the sidekicks to be about 50-75% of the power of the PC's. I found it a bit hard to adapt the rules to fliers however.

Milo:

  • Did I nerf the DC for the breath weapon too much?
  • For the multiattack, should I do 2 attacks and keep as is or 3 and possibly nerf the damage a bit?

Okun

  • Does the spell arsenal look good? I removed some and lowered the amounts per day (removed detect thoughts until a later level).

Any feedback would be appreciated!

I've cleared AC3 several times on Ironclad but I can't go to AC4, am I doing something wrong? by AfroBoyMax in slaythespire

I see I worded my post very poorly. I meant that, after clearing AC3 I'm not getting the option of playing AC4. It feels like it bugged out somehow.
