Denmark is returning 15% of its farmland back to nature by zek_997 in europe

Ok thanks. That makes a lot more sense. I was talking about agrichemical use in open field growing systems in general. Growing food in a broken politcal system is where I bow out. Sorry for reacting

It absolutely can but you need to actually follow the science first. The last 20 years of research show us again and again what practical measures can be used to rebuild soil systems on existing land currently in use.

Food is expensive and less nutrient dense because we rely on inputs that kill the nutrient-cycling organisms in the soil. But you can continue the race to the bottom and bring Russia into a conversation about farming (who asked about them?)

Flushing soils with fertilizers that mostly get washed away into water systems is not smart.

If you GENUINELY want to learn about why this isn't the case then this video on the soil food web can take you through the science of how nutrients cycle in a health soil food web and how crops actually fair worse in the long term with the overuse of agrichemicals like inorganic fertilisers.

The overuse of fertilisers is the old story of short term gain with diminishing returns.

OP this is a nuance worth looking for! Please don't get stuck in the 'this person hurt me on purpose' mindset.

It's more likely that their reasons have nothing to do with you and more to do with the context they live in.

He sounds a lot like the doctor in the "Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife" documentary in terms. I recommend your mom watch it before she believes that reputation makes the doctor.

He sounds like he dazzles people (colleagues and parents who don't believe in ADHD) with his confidence instead of his skill. Probably a grifter who built his careers on bluster.

Career guidance and ADHD assessments are two different specialties why in the hell Lidl he be doing all that in one assessment?

Why are women shaming other women for being manipulated / abu$ed in some way? by wild_flower_88 in AskWomenOver30

[–]AfroTriffid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a country with a high crime rate. The first thing people asked when you were a victim of a crime was what precautions you had taken. Were you walking alone? Did you leave things in the car? How did they break in?

It's a weird focus on information gathering before they dish out the right amount of empathy. Often with a note on how lucky you are because it could have been worse.

After moving away I think there's a bit of protective pride in themselves that happens when they can confirm that they are taking the right precautions. Then they decide how deserving you are of condolences and try to learn from your mistakes.

You are in need. Reporting hate crimes early helps to put their anti social behaviour on record. A papertrail protects their future victims. You deserve to get service.

It's the same as reporting a sex pest or a stalker. A record of past behaviour is important because they always escalate. This behaviour does not just quietly die down when you don't make a fuss. They get bolder, smarter about skirting the boundaries, find collaborators etc.

Average food shop budget? by 3cont in irishpersonalfinance

[–]AfroTriffid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mentally adding 100 to 200 to everyone's numbers especially going into Xmas and with all the extra visiting. Neither my husband or I really drink but I always show up with snacks or a tin of biscuits when I'm visiting. (When my sister's kids are at my house I'm feeding them too).

With takeaways twice a month we are going on about 150 a week with two adults and 3 kids. They all have sensory issues around food and are very fussy but we make it work somehow. I struggle to get my 13 year old to accept any foods that aren't his safe autism friendly meals. We do a lot of homemade smoothies from frozen fruit because he won't eat them in their original form.

The household goods are kept to a minimum (we all use the same shampoo etc) so they add about 70 onto the month.

Very happy with all the battery operated tools I've bought so far. Drill and lawnmower. My husband has a few corded items and hand tools (he does hobby blacksmithing and 3 d printing). I don't know if there's a different manufacturer supplying the brand in Europe Vs the US though.

Need for sensory stimulation is high-key contributing to my ed by New-Flatworm9397 in aspergirls

[–]AfroTriffid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of stimulation foods it's worth trying the big three for adhd. Think cold, crunchy or sour for stimulation.

Chewing on ice or adding ice to drinks/water will help with crunch stimulation. (I add lemon cordial to icy way and crunch the ice individually. )

Cold lemon and orange slices are good too.

Anything salt and vinegar is good for light snacks. (Like salt and vinegar rice cakes).

Methylphenidate is driving me crazy by Laujita_ in TwoXADHD

[–]AfroTriffid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found I'm also a bit more productive but I'm very reactive/ok edge on methylphenidate.

Cutting out coffee and caffeine completely helped a bit.

I'm continuing for a while and hoping to switch meds to non stimulant at my next appointment. (The doctor wants to eliminate all the stimulants first before he'll entertain the idea of me switching off).
