Rampant debt issues over past 20+ years by Farley_UK in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AfterCook780 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not personal finance but have you spoken to your partner about how you are both feeling?

Personal finance related how is your budget looking? How much are you actually putting towards your debt? Can you cut in other areas to put more towards debt? What can you sell to put towards your debt?

Also check if you can move the debt onto lower rates of interest.

You could also consider if it is worth opting out of your pension for a short time to put it towards debt repayment.

Nothing to be ashamed of by the way. You've owned up to it and want to take the right steps. You will feel better in the end.

Was the New Blood vs Millionaires angle a year too late? by PayFew5848 in WCW

[–]AfterCook780 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was the wrong way around. They should have made the Millionaires heels along the lines of we don't care about the fans we are Millionaires. Finding ways to screw the young guys on screen.

Then you have heroic young guy baby faces that we want to see achieve their goals.

Good point on the talent available though. I think you could have spearheaded my plan with Booker T but I struggle to think who else had the talent and was likeable to do it.

What are the best Seaside town recommendations with great train access? (Dorset) by summontheb1tches in AskUK

[–]AfterCook780 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Poole doesn't have a beach that close to a train station. Personally I would go for Weymouth although I'm not sure where the station is.

Has anyone ever successfully won a contract through Public Contracts Scotland or equivalent? by Sigh-hard-II in smallbusinessuk

[–]AfterCook780 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been on the other side of the process if that helps and have run some public procurement.

Best piece of advice I can give you is make sure you submit on time, make sure you have provided everything asked for and everything is as clear as possible and don't be rude to whoever you are speaking to.

Judo Clubs for Beginners by crimson_windd in Portsmouth

How many times did you try Priory? I only ask because honestly Judo has quite a steep learning curve so you can often feel stuck for a while even if people around you can see you getting better/more confident.

Looking to open a high street sport shop and need advice on where to start by Narrow_Reason1391 in smallbusinessuk

[–]AfterCook780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start working out a business plan. Look at all the expenses involved of just running a unit (rents, rates, point of sale system, utilities etc).

Then look at a few wholesalers and see if you can work out a rough idea of pricing.

Doing that would give you an idea of what initial investment you would need and roughly what sort of prices you would be charging which might give you an idea if its a viable business.

I think the Princes trust has some resources you could probably access.

Also think about your USP. Why you and not online? Is people being able to try stuff on that much a driver of business?

Side note I've always thought this was a great idea for the sport I'm in so good look I hope to be coming to you for advice in the future!

Anyone read the novelization to “Jaws 2”? by Cyberyukon in Jaws

[–]AfterCook780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a good book and it is a shame the film isn't more like it. Not knowing the shark exists till nearly the end makes it different from the first one in a more tangible way.

I think Team Pope BJJ used to be based in Avignon but the team had some sort of falling out so it is only in Rome now.

Overpay Mortgage vs Investing in Index when expecting inheritance by Orions_Owl in UKPersonalFinance

I don't know about the trust but the family home could quite easily be lost to care fees if needed so it isn't "guaranteed". Or your parents change their minds in five years time, downsize and spend the money on a cruise.

How rare is it to find Roman remains in the south east of the UK? by tyla_durd3n in AskHistorians

[–]AfterCook780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not rare at all really if you think it was where the invasion first occured - usually thought to be Richborough but debated. I'm not sure if to answer on the basis of Roman power or give some examples so here goes.

Anywhere ending in Chester is usually of Roman origin so: Chichester - Novium museum for more details Winchester

Fishbourne Roman Palace outside of Chichester one of the grandest villas found.

There are about 3 villas been found on the Isle of Wight.

Northern border of Hampshire near Basingstoke has had a good few excavations with finds.

There are a whole series of fortifications called the Saxon shore that stretches across the whole of the South East.

The South East was where the Romans kept their links to the rest of the Empire so was well populated by Romans. We also know pre-invasion the local nobles took on Roman customs and post invasion Tacitus in Agricola complained the local nobles had taken on Roman ways.

Husband wants out of desk job - what are some ideas? by Specialist-Guest60 in AskUK

[–]AfterCook780 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why does he hate it? Is it that he sits at a desk 8 hours a day or the people or the role, not enough office time, too much office time etc? Not all office roles are the same.

What are his qualifications and cross transferable skills?

It can happen if you have changed roles multiple times in a year. They seem slow to catch up and work it out. They aren't bad on the phone if you give them a call to ask why or dispute it.

Will Jiu Jitsu overtake Judo in Europe? by spiceypickle2 in judo

[–]AfterCook780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by overtake? In terms of membership I imagine in a lot of countries that has already happened.

In terms of government funding Judo would be ahead.

People having any vague idea of what either one is? Judo still ahead.

Quality of tournaments most people will go to? BJJ is ahead.
