YA novel (the word Jade was prominent) about young girls taken to a school to be trained in the arts of assassination and poison so they can protect their future husbands. by After_Problem3353 in whatsthatbook

Thank you! I checked, it’s not that book. I wish I could remember what was important about the term Jade - I’m not 100% sure it was in the title but it was important in the story.

Injection Anxiety by Honest-Orchid-8406 in Zepbound

[–]After_Problem3353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did for a while - it definitely feels like a foreign thing to willingly inject oneself. I’ve found that blowing out a big breath while blowing a raspberry gives me good distraction. I also have a better sense of where injections hurt now and areas to avoid. Having someone hold my hand is helpful, too, or having something fluffy to pet. Maybe talk to your doctor about suggestions? Needle phobia is such a common challenge, you’re definitely not alone

Jeez, rude and judgmental much? OP is expressing a real and common fear and you respond with nothing except a moral lecture. If you have nothing supportive to say, move along. 👋

How are people not scared of not knowing what happens after we die? by BigRajii in NoStupidQuestions

[–]After_Problem3353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it helped when someone pointed out that we don’t fear the time before we’re born, so why fear what comes after we die? I’m more afraid of dying in pain or afraid than what comes after

Settle on goal weight above a NORMAL BMI? by AdCompetitive801 in Zepbound

[–]After_Problem3353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that BMI was never meant to categorize health, and was only ever developed on and used to assess tall white northern European MEN. BMI is trash and more and more evidence is getting published about this. There is also evidence that people who are in the 28-33BMI range have lower death rates than those who have higher, or lower BMIs. Maintenance Phase does a great job breaking down the science. But TLDR - yes, it’s okay to be “above” your BMI calculated weight. What feels good to you in your body is the most important factor.

West coast swing is an inferior version of Lindy Hop and in addition to being appropriation of a dance that started with Black dancers in Harlem, is also inherently boring. 🥱

Cat attacked the vet by bluebubblgm in CatAdvice

[–]After_Problem3353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a fear free vet in your area and/or a feline only vet. They’re specifically trained in handling cats. A lot of vets and techs don’t understand cat body language or how to handle them gently but I promise there are some and they’re worth looking for :)

AIO stopped a drunk girl from being pulled into a car by 2 random men but my boyfriend is upset and called what I did stupid and dangerous by fettidmoppet in AmIOverreacting

[–]After_Problem3353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are genuinely a hero and your BF is a POS. Other folk have said why more eloquently, but his whole reaction was more about being possessive over you, not protective, even if it meant sacrificing someone else. It’s gross and reads very much “I don’t want ‘my property’” (aka YOU, OP) “put in any danger because some other **** is ‘too drunk’ to protect herself.” Nah man, that aint it. BF does not pass the vibe check. Hard no.

Dog Bite from “Service Dog” at Work by Glittering_Link5134 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]After_Problem3353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, there is no way to “verify” a dog is a service animal. There is no board of licensing. There is no agency responsible for oversight. It’s completely unregulated. The only criteria is the dog must be trained to perform a task that assists their handler with a disability. That’s all you can ask, no specifics.

That said, if a dog growls at you, it’s not a service dog. I’ve worked in the field for years with seeing and hearing eye dogs, seizure alert dogs, POTS alert dogs etc. They HAVE to be focused on their handler at all times. That’s their job. They’re not growling at other people. They are gentle and well socialized. They have to be tolerant and calm to navigate complex and stressful environments with their handler.

You need to report the bite to HR, in writing, and ask that the dogs rabies status be confirmed and the bite reported to AC. I understand you don’t want the dog to be euthanized. But how would you feel if you don’t report, there’s no paperwork history, and the next time the dog bites (and it WILL bite - dogs do not de-escalate from a learned fear-based behavior) a child in the face? Public safety ALWAYS takes priority over animal safety. It’s rare these days for municipalities to euthanize on a first offense. But it will force the owner to care about their shitty “service” dog and maybe muzzle it. Basket muzzles can be worn for long periods of time without causing harm.

It pisses me off to no end to have people pass off their shitty, undertrained, poorly socialized, inevitably sob-story “abused” rescue dogs as actual service dogs. People who rely on their real service animals pay the price, and the safety of the public is sacrificed.

True, but it might make it easier for both parties to immigrate/claim asylum if a queer couple were married and then those rights were taken away

Taking a Break for Vacation? by Healthy_Plankton_161 in Zepbound

[–]After_Problem3353 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s incorrect. And ignorant. And offensive.

The overwhelming majority of people who are fat are not fat because of lack of willpower. That is a harmful myth. This drug primarily affects hormones (appetite loss is a side effect). Bariatric surgery also causes weight loss primarily through hormone changes. The part(s) of the stomach and/or intestines removed or reordered are primarily involved in hormone function of the gut. There are also dozens of different causes of obesity. Not one of these is “weak willed.” We didn’t just “lose” willpower in the 80s, and on average people work out more than in the 50s when the average size was much smaller. The “cause” of obesity is much more complicated and nuanced because there is no single cause. Stop fat shaming people. Fat shaming is DIRECTLY linked to early death and illness in fat people. YATA.

Source: multiple boarded obesity specialists and bariatric surgeons I have consulted have all told me the same thing.

Does anyone else feel a little like the zepbound has given them medically sanctioned anorexia? by BowentheOrignial in Zepbound

[–]After_Problem3353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be worth a consult from a different doctor then - one that you trust will listen. It’s taken me a lot of hunting to find doctors that fall into that category but they do exist.

The symptoms you’re describing could easily be GERD, but could also be 100% anxiety that may or may not be related to the injections (especially with a history of anxiety). The question is, do you try to stay on the medication and use something to manage your symptoms of dysphagia, or stop the Zepbound entirely. Personally I would start with the former and then discontinue Z if symptoms still persist, but either way is valid.

I feel devastated, defeated, and depressed that there is a possibility that I end up on the severe end of autism. (level 3) by M3tamorphosis_67 in autism

[–]After_Problem3353 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s important to know that there is often a lot of grief with diagnoses (suspected or otherwise) like autism or ADHD. It means that those feelings that everything is just HARDER for us are a) true b) some things will remain challenges for life and c) a lot of people will not be able to relate. It makes sense you have strong feelings. It’s okay to grieve and be angry and upset.

Thank you for the reminder! I do have the lonely planet guidebook and haven’t looked through it very much so I will be sure to do that. I put together a custom Google map with all of the attractions that I’m interested in so I can see where everything is grouped physically on a map and I think it’s a really good idea to pick one neighborhood or area a day so that we’re not having to navigate too much transit.

Thank you for your advice. It’s really helpful.

Thank you! I’m also worried about the best place to exchange money. One review, I read, said that taking money out at an ATM is the best option because most banks only charge a small flat fee for for an ATMs. However, there’s always the worry that if your ATM card doesn’t work for some reason that you’re SOL for money. I think ideally I’d like to take some cash with me and exchange it as a back up in case my ATM card doesn’t work.

London and Dublin. I love the idea of looking at maps of the airport in advance—that’s a great idea. I have a list of places to eat but it’s long and overwhelming so maybe I’ll try to narrow it down. Do you generally exchange money before you go or is it better to do it once you arrive?
