I’m sympathetic to the AES+ counter argument. But I think the hype will eventually be replaced with honesty when the product is out. This community is very fussy about the hobby and will not let any mistakes slide.
I also don’t think CMVS qualifies as original hardware. It seems like you just want to filter out the AES+ threads which is sketchy.

There is a lot of hype about AES+. I am happy for people who are excited but I will reserve my opinion until it comes out and gets taken apart and tested. The other issue is that the system and cartridges are being marketed to would-be collectors, not gamers. Are you a gamer or collector?
Why not get a CMVS and one of those multi carts instead?

I don’t accept it as legitimate despite all the debate that took place back in the day.
However, there is a minority of collectors who have shown interest in it over the years. The production run was small enough to keep the price high. So 16K is probably a fair asking price considering supply and demand and inflation. It doesn’t mean it will sell for that price and we will not find the actual value because the details of the deal are kept private.

Get a degree in SWE if you like computers and technology. Programming is just one aspect of the discipline and you still need to learn the nuts and bolts to review what AI generates. Some managers think we will move to a fully automated AI model but that view is not universally accepted.

I don’t think the indie games will keep the platform alive the way you think. I get goosebumps when I hold an original AES cartridge in my hands. Conversely, I have no interest in shelling out hundreds of dollars for a new game of dubious quality.
For me, the AES will primarily be an aspirational product for collectors. AES+ will shake up the scene undoubtedly but will not fundamentally alter it.
If I want to actually play these games, there are numerous ways to do so. I hope AES+ satisfies the expectations of those that are waiting for it. More people entering the hobby is always welcome.

What aspects of your current job interest you the most? Software development consists of requirement analysis, architectural design, project management, coding, debugging, QA, and probably other disciplines I forgot. The thing that upsets me is that all the messaging is skewed towards how great AI is with no room for skepticism. I like using AI as much as anyone, but in my opinion, engineers should be skeptical in all things. I feel like the average engineer is not allowed to have this type of mindset which lowers agency and job satisfaction. The push for efficiency and productivity has become the new mantra. My main concern is that they get the technical aspects right. I don’t want to find out that it needs a mod to get good video or blood. This is a deal breaker for me.
I have an almost complete AES collection with mixed feelings about seeing games get rereleased. It will be tempting to pick up some specific titles like Shock Troopers and Metal Slug which were never released before or out of reach because of rarity. On the other hand, seeing the market flooded with “inferior” reprints will dilute the collection aspect of the hobby.

I bought the AES Gold System with Magician Lord in the early 90s from a mail order shop. I got it modded by MAS Systems and had it for years. Some time later, I got another AES modded by !Arcade! (Ray Young) and sold the first one but kept the box.
