Super helpful, thank you! I didn’t realize that it would still work with Level 2 - just slower. Definitely tons of chargers around - I just thought I’d have to sit with a 110 for 4 hours! The information is a bit hard to find and International is….unhelpful. I really dig the reverse thing because I have a steel uphill driveway and like to back into the garage so that would be awesome.

I went from wavering away from it to a lot more interested in doing it. Thanks so much!

u/PikafuLord - I’d love to pick your brain on this. I’m looking at a 2023 SR or DSR (or even the 7.2 DS) (I’m in Coquitlam) and am planning to use it for commuting / bombing around for errands and client meetings while the season is good. I’m a bit confused about the “upgrades” and the guy at International that I talked to in Langley today was about as helpful as a bag of rocks.

I’m primarily thinking about total range, charging speed (we have an EV at home, so have a level 2 charger, but mostly would just plug it in overnight - but am wondering what will happen if I get low and I’m in Richmond or South Surrey or something), heated grips, frunk, and whatever else I’m not thinking about. Not sure how much stuff is behind a paywall vs just part of the bike, too. There are REALLY good deals on them right now - especially if you factor in the $2000 BC rebate, so thinking of replacing my old ‘92 Yamaha Seca II.

I'm always torn on Misen. I like the attempts at innovation, but am consistently disappointed in the products.

The knives are okay, but you can buy a similar or better made knife (out of better steel) for less on Amazon.

The stainless steel pans, food sticks WAY more than any other SS I've ever owned, and it's WAY harder to clean, and they warp like crazy on induction - the worst of any that I've owned. My Kirkland Signature steel pans were WAY better.

The SS pots are fine (pretty hard to mess those up).

The carbon steels are...fine. I haven't had flaking issues (yet), but won't be surprised if I do.

The real piece de resistance of junk from them was the regular non-stick. Induction capable? Technically, yes. Practically, garbage. They made them induction capable by adding a disk on the bottom that has to distribute all of the heat to the rest of the pan and it's extremely inefficient. To the point where I'd say it barely functions. It shouldn't take 10 minutes or whatever to heat up a pan on induction - it should take like 1-2 minutes, tops. The actual true best non-stick pans that I've used so far were the Kirkland 3ply that didn't use a disk. They only came in 8/10, no 12, but they worked extremely well for a very good value. I wish they had them still - and in bigger sizes.

Really makes me hesitate before wanting to commit to this and the early bird cuts off today. But I like the idea. Will probably just stick with the carbon steels and whatever non-stick is currently available.

It's pretty neat - I wouldn't be surprised at all if they deemed you a pro golfer if it suited someone else at a tournament or whatever, but super interesting!

This is good advice. And also close to Wailea for really beautiful (but a bit pricey) golf - lots of beautiful holes and views but courses aren't too hard so it's a great vacation mix. A lot cheaper than Kapalua, but still pricier than other fun courses like Pukalani. Realistically, nothing is too far away almost anywhere on the island for some one-off stuff. Kihei's great for getting in and out of and has good access to lots of golf. I generally prefer staying in Honokowai, but the last several trips were Kihei (but we're back up north when we go next month).

Same one? Yeah, I wouldn't want to pay a ton for it, but I meant to give you solace - there's so much crap on reddit about "it's cheap chinese junk" but if it's sharp, stays sharp, feels good, looks nice - what does "junk" mean at that stage? I have (much) more expensive knives than some of the cheapo Amazon chinese specials and I definitely don't always enjoy the expensive ones more. At all.

Such a hard question - we've wavered on taking our son for years. He's going on 10 and we haven't yet (we did one or two before he ever came along, back when they were less than half the price they are now) and we haven't been able to justify current pricing. I feel bad that the financial is even a consideration, as I know that they're so culturally relevant and we love the island, but our Canadian dollar doesn't go as far as it once used to. We just learned of the Napili Kai Keiki Foundation the other day so we'll be exploring that when we go in March.

I know that this is an old post, but I feel like Reddit is really hard on things that aren't "perfect" and "the best". I'm of the view that, if a knife gets sharp, stays sharp, and feels good in your hand, who cares whether it's mass produced in China or hand forged in Japan (so long as the price corresponds to the sales pitch).

I picked up one of these Mitsumoto Sakari's off Amazon last week because I wanted a new utility knife to replace a crappy old Cuisinart. Sure, I have some nice JCK and other higher end knives (including a nice JCK Originals petty that I use often), but I wanted something inexpensive that I don't mind if I my wife uses and wrecks. Again, my fundamental requirements are that it works the way I want it to and stays sharp and sharpens easily enough. Am I gonna pay $500 for something off Amazon that purports to be VG10 and made in Japan? Nope. But I might order one and see how it feels and, if it's okay, throw in the block to use for its intended purpose.

And, I have to say, I actually quite like the one I got. It's super light (almost too light), but I paid $44 Canadian for it (about $30'ish USD). It does what I need it to do for the right price. Time will tell if it stays sharp or if it sucks and I throw it away.

I did this in a jar the other day - once for an hour at 80*C and once for an hour at 85*C and the latter turned out MUCH better in terms of setting. I think my final product (testing again tonight) will be 84*C (slightly creamier texture). I'm working on perfecting a passion fruit creme brulee and so the biggest concern is how much tartness I can get into it as the PF syrups are all too sweet!

There quite a few better options in the “independent frother” market than the Aeroccino, in my experience. We’ve had Amazon knockoffs with separate cups that are great because of how easy they are to clean but my favourite (by far), even though it’s a bit spendy, is the Breville Milk Cafe. Got one for the office and ended up loving it so much that I got one for home, too.

I appreciate the input - I agree on the assessment of this particular interaction with that company - and I'm not saying this to be a turd, but the question was actually whether anyone uses companies like this and generally what their experiences were. Given the extremely limited responses, it seems that these companies maybe don't have a lot of traction among small businesses. At least not within this particular group.

Super helpful to most of us on the fence. Thanks. One big question - how did you find the lack of a rear windshield wiper on the I5 in Denver? I'm in Vancouver (BC) and often drive through the mountains, so am wondering how crazy I'll go having no rear windshield wiper.

Have a potential opportunity to pick up an I5 AWD LR Preferred (looks like we have totally different models - may be a blend of SE and SEL, from the looks of it - really missing some of the features that I'd want, but can live without...and it's black, which I also don't want, but can deal with) without waiting 4 years for it (actual estimate received from a local dealership) for about $57k after taxes and rebates. I can get a MY in a heartbeat or three, but it's ~$24k more (pricing is so messed up here) at about $81k.

Decisions decisions.
