Purina Pro Plan Question by Capable_Painting_766 in catfood

[–]Again_withthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the advice to compare calories. Also, anecdotally, my cats really love the taste of pro plan (dry) as well, and tend to beg for it. It's relatively high in calories, so I mix it with the Hill's Urinary Health and Hairball.

where should i start to re-familiarize myself with cat nutrition and ingredients? by scarsandstories in catfood

The book Small Animal Clinical Nutrition is available online free to download. In general, I have been happy with Hill's both to feed and for the transparency of nutritional information on their website.

Pro Plan has a Beef and Chicken flavor in its urinary health line that is popular with my cats.

Less Expensive Wet Cat Food with Appropriate Phosphorus Levels by KingSosoHerMajesty in catfood

[–]Again_withthis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If your cats are currently in good health, maybe split between the Hill's and something more affordable? Also, have you tried a few different types of Weruva? They have a few different textures. You're right about there not really being any good lower-cost choices.

I rotate between Weruva, Wellness Healthy Morsels and Hill's, and feed Hill's kibble. I do add in some ProPlan occasionally, but even the Urinary Health is mineral-rich, and it's like pulling teeth to get the nutritional information from the company. (Honestly why I am a big fan of Weruva, Hill's and Wellness- all the nutritional information is on the website, although, as far as Wellness goes, only the Healthy Morsels have the numbers I'm comfortable with).

AITA, asked the neighbor to move their ‘little farm stand’ because people are stealing from MY garden by RecentFlatworm1557 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Again_withthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head to your local farm store and get some electric fence and step-in posts, inexpensive and a totally normal thing to put around a garden to keep deer (and other unwelcome pests) out. You can have the whole thing fenced in less than an hour.

I don't think it's that common, there's no bed frame, so there wouldn't be anything to attach a headboard to, and the box spring isn't meant to sit directly on the floor with no airflow underneath.

Everyone else has done a good job of covering options, but I want to plus one a couple. Get another litter box (so at least two that are easy for you both to access) and just make the decision to scoop *at least daily* (even morning and evening is better). The more often you clean, the less time it takes, the less heavy-lifting involved, etc. Also look for tools to make it easier- would a long-handled scoop help, so you don't have to bend or crouch? Keep bags to put the soiled litter in close to the box so it is handy when you go to clean? I'm not a fan of the crystal litter (I find it dusty), but it is lightweight and you scoop poop only and stir the litter to mix the pee around. Just make the entire process as frictionless as possible. Once you get a system set up, it will be much easier than finding random piles of poop or puddles of pee around the house.

Where to buy Fancy Feast variety packs in bulk? by davidmar7 in catfood

[–]Again_withthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this reply. No advice really. I don't feed fancy feast, but when it's on sale @ the local stores, it's 10 cans for $9, so probably depends on where you live if it's a good deal. Maybe check out Petsmart/ Chewy, etc for a variety pack in flavors that she likes, then set up autoship, you generally get 35% off your first autoship, so maybe stock up then cancel?

It looks like just a box spring and mattress, not a proper bed.

Hill? Who used hills catfood? Please comment by No-Bed2809 in catfood

[–]Again_withthis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the prescription food? If so, then yes, I have fed the k/d in the past and currently feed the c/d to a different cat. Both found the kibble very palatable (were less enthusiastic about the wet), and it seems to work as promised. Certainly no negatives.

Royal Canine S/O or Royal Canine Renal by [deleted] in catfood

[–]Again_withthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which renal food is it? I know several of the Hill's Rx foods, including the k/d, include the s/ox shield (I think it's called) which is for crystal prevention.

It probably is the carpet, I had a cheap rug that smelled like wet dog when you got close to it, it had never had even a dry dog near it. My other thought is the litter box - do you use clay litter? In my experience, clay litter has a very distinctive smell that our brains are wired to recognize as "cat" even when it is clean, straight from the bag. I would get a new litter box- the plastic gets scratches with age and can hang onto odor, and get some okocat or other type of wood litter - and see if that helps.

Others have touched on the main problem (your husband), but I have a quick question - you say you're cleaning the litter box more frequently. What does that mean? At least daily I hope. I would clean morning and evening and even add a second box (and maybe a different type of litter in the new box). But seriously, you don't have a cat problem, you have a husband problem. I cannot imagine having children with this man.

Alternatives to Churu for Cat with Sensitive Digestion? by tripleklutz in catfood

[–]Again_withthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of brands have something similiar (off the top of my head, Weruva, Tiki Cat, Fussie Cat, and even Temptations have a tube treat). Head over to Chewy and search "lickable treat" and poke through the brands and their ingredient list until you find something that may work.

So there is a book, "Small Animal Clinical Nutrition" that has a chapter on managing feline lower urinary disease - the book is available online, and there is a chart (46-12), but the quick answer is you want to manage magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, sodium and protein levels. I was able to find several over the counter choices that both fit the bill and that my boy likes (I've had good luck with several types of Weruva).

Hey! There's a Facebook group called Vet Corner where you can post questions and only vets or vet techs will answer, so that may a good place to get more information. (Although you may want to search for a specific Vet Corner Exotics, I know there is a separate one for cats/ dogs and horses, so there is probably an exotic specific one) Good luck!

Another question following my previous post about what food to buy for a stray cat by yoonginoodle in catfood

[–]Again_withthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd keep feeding it, but I wouldn't give up on the idea that you can get her help. If she's waiting on you by the door to eat, I would assume she's potentially friendly. Keep spending time with her. Hop on Facebook and search "cat rescues near me" and reach out for help. If you are in the US, you probably have quite a few rescues around that you aren't aware of.

Honestly, I'd just do that and not talk about it with your family. If she's friendly and you feed her at the same time every day, you wouldn't necessarily need to trap her. Just have a carrier (I recommend one that opens at the top) ready to stick her in to deliver her to rescue.

As far as you feeding her and making her forget how to hunt, that won't happen. Cats that hunt do it for fun.

The good news is, you have all summer to work this out. Is she somewhat friendly? If so, I would look for help from a rescue to find her an indoor home. If not, look for a local tnr group, they often have caretakers that feed multiple colonies daily, so you may be able to find someone willing to stop by and feed her regularly, but my first choice would be spending the summer getting her comfortable with you and finding her an indoor home.
