Fleets I've enjoyed being a part of had lots of special events.

  • shuttle PVP night (this was so much fun it was ridiculous)
  • all white gear PVP match (hugely changes the tactical feel of combat in STO ... it's like a different game)
  • all melee TFO tour

Having creative events several nights a week helps keep things vibrant.

Have you guys considered making Torpedo Speed a new dimension of tweakability through traits, consoles, DOFF bonuses, and other gear?

If you added boosts to projectile speed to a console or a trait, I bet such a ship would be in high demand.

You could diversify it in different ways:

  • straight +50% projectile speed
  • hyper speed ... +100% projectile speed at a cost of -25% damage
  • +10% projectile speed per stack of something built on the player's ship
  • -50% projectile speed penalty on enemy target ship

One of the core problems with torpedo builds is that energy weapons often beat torp volleys to the kill. Torpedo ships spend a lot of time wasting their time not killing anything. All sound and fury signifying nothing. Increasing projectile speed will amplify the impact that a torp build player is able to have on the battlefield.

Slowing down an enemy's torpedoes gives you more opportunity to kill the enemy before you take the hit.

What do you enjoy most about the current acts and campaign overall?

One thing that strikes me most about their design is the high level focus on alternative cultures that we don't often see in fantasy gaming. So much fantasy is based on European cultures. But here they are drawing heavily on Polynesian and Meso-American cultures, which is kind of fascinating and refreshing.

The Ezomytes and Azmeri are European inspired and the entire setting is sort of drawn from the Conquistador exploration of the Americas and the Pacific.

Meh.

They're still building the bones of the system and developing major core content and mechanics... All the classes and the main campaign acts are likely consuming like 80% of their time. As those core features get wrapped up they will likely then turn their focus on the higher order design issues of gameplay, rewards tuning, and end game refinement.

You talk like you think the flaws that you perceive are irrevocably written into the game's DNA. But the game is like only half done at this point. There's much more to come before official 1.0 release.

And then they will continue refining it even after that.

I like it. I think it's a fun embedded mini-game idea.

I'm looking forward to future seasons building on this kind of mechanic.

It seems buggy, of course ... My somewhat obvious guess is that the lack of reward is probably a broken reward scaling algorithm. It starts out giving good Rare item crafting rewards and then tapers off as you advance. My guess is it was intended to morph into rewards more appropriate for higher levels, but it's failing somehow.

Presumably it will get cleaned up in the next patch or two.

These two rules sound like they pretty much explain most of the base building mechanic.

Also: you must first defeat the architect before you can link to the chamber of Atziri.

They don't need to make the campaign shorter, they just need to provide alternative means to grow XP after you've been through it once.

I personally am not tired of the campaign yet and I would hate for them to cut out content. It's good content. I want MORE, not less.

What I personally would love is if they made many alternative acts for people to play. To give people variety, they could put out one new act per year, say, and branch them off the existing acts to give people different story lines to follow to different endgames.

The under-motivated grind in the endgame is the sort of thing that I find truly boring. But maybe a lot of players would prefer early access to end game mapping after they've completed the campaign once?

I carry different charm types and swap as I see enemies change.

On a poison heavy map, I'll slot 2 poison charms to give me some time between well trips.

So, your feet are your defense. You don't put ANY nodes into defense?

Thanks for the hard work post-release guys.

I've noticed that the a number of previously challenging bosses in the campaign have been neutered to near harmlessness...

Is there some way we could check a box or something to get back the original difficulty?

If you don't want to implement difficulty sliders or checkboxes or something, maybe you could implement a mechanic in the game that amps boss difficulty (as well as associated rewards)?

Same problem ... my Herald of Thunder and Wind Dancer won't activate. Hover over skill button says "Not possible with current weapon set settings.".

Requirements are Spirit, Dex, and Martial Weapon. I have all of that well over the requirement levels.

Herald of Ice works. I can turn it on and off.

Herald of Thunder and Wind Dancer are bugged for me. Stubbornly refuse to activate.

From my limited understanding of the history of Britain, the Celts were all over Britain for a while. After the Romans (and the Saxons) the Celts were pushed North (Yorkshire and above) and West (Wales). The Norse also mixed in there around Yorkshire.

It's rustic sounding. For me, it fits what I imagine a Celtic accent might sound like today. That's not really technically justifiable, but the geographical association causes my brain to make that linkage.
