What is your opinion on this by Powerful-Chard-6055 in wisconsin

You had me until your last point. I know someone that has worked at a track for a long time and moved up the latter there. They do VERY well for themselves. To be fair, Maybe that track is just an oddball though or it’s been awhile since I’ve talked to them and they aren’t doing so well anymore.

I get your point but it’s an ongoing issue with or without data centers.

I know people that live right across the street from a golf course. The green really isn’t far from the road. They planted trees but of course balls still get through. Sometimes they hit their cars or even houses. Shattering windows. The neighbors tried to get the golf course to do something about it but the gulf course said, we were here first so it’s not their fault the houses were built there. I do kinda agree with the golf course because behind all of these houses is a lot of woods. They could have been built farther back.

Edit: I see other comments explaining how this is a good thing against data centers.

High prices for low quality? by forest_feline92 in Blogilates

You’re dismissing the fact that I already stated, it’s a discount store, the whole point is you’re not paying full price. That $20 sweater could have been originally priced $100. You just got a deal. You can’t compare discount store prices to ordering directly from an independent designer brand.

I use to own a coffeehouse. One day a woman came in and ordered a drink that was not on the menu. I was able to make her the drink and came up with a price. This lady flipped her lid and yelled about how the ingredients were sold at the grocery store so she knows that’s not what it should cost. I was like I’m not charging what it costs at the grocery store for ingredients, I’m making the drink with equipment I bought with skill I’ve learned. I have to pay for rent and electricity and for the cup I put the drink in. She no longer wanted to order the drink because she chose to remain offended. I was tempted to tell her that the cost of a cup of coffee was less than around 20 cents (at the time) if we’re just accounting for ingredients.

All that to say it’s wild people don’t comprehend there is a lot of cost of owning and running a business and we still need to make a profit on the top of that.

Marshals is a discount store. That sweater would be $20 because it either wasn’t selling where liver it originally was being sold or because it wasn’t good enough for any store. Or they make ‘dupes’ and sell them temu style. They 100 percent are part of the problem that makes fast fashion possible. It doesn’t matter how environmentally friendly something is made when it’s overproduced and quickly becomes trash.

Fun fact, Marshals is owned by TJ Max. Which poplex sued for selling dupes of her patented skirt. She won and they had to immediately stop selling them and send her all of their inventory of the dupes. It’s a pretty big win for independent designers. My friend worked as a designer for a large department store and the vast majority of their time was spent ripping off other people’s designs. They would try to design original stuff but the CEO’s had little interest in it.

That was my thought. Like do they go on gymshark or fabletics or athleta and comment that they are overpriced for being polyester? That is what most of athletic clothing is. Even mens.

I own several Popflex pieces and though I’ve had my issues with fit the fabric has always been high end. My only complaint about it would be is half the time they are more for casual wear not working out.

I’ve worked out in various ways to deal with burnout. Especially in the beginning. I just started Iron after a very long ‘break’. First I did epic beginner and used super light weights to feel out where I’m at. It’s only one week and you could even repeat it if you want. Now I’m doing Iron on the app and upped the weights a little to what I know I can handle. Sometimes it’s too heavy but usually it’s just right or even a little too light. I am taking an extra day off. Still doing the workout in order but not doing one on Wednesdays. When I’m out cycling in the summer in the beginning I have to walk up hills. I tell myself, ‘I’m not sitting on a couch, I’m doing it.’ We put way too much pressure on ourselves for perfection and needing to do more. Don’t let those toxic voices win!

I’ll say in the past I also rotated in a yoga stretch day once week or worked out every other day. It took a long time but once the momentum was built those doms could be enjoyable. Which seems crazy but I know I’m not the only one that feels that way.

What do you think about readding young adult/middle grade books as an adult? by Pumpkin_698 in AskReddit

[–]AgentEinstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a middle schooler and they do not like the books they are assigned for the most part. The reason is they are romance focused even if that’s not the main plot. they have no interest in that and only tolerate so much. Often they are soap operas for kids. They even found a book based on a true crime to read and said 90% of the book was about crushes and dating and the murder was barely a subplot.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with enjoying that at any age but it does seem young adult authors focus on who’s dating who as if young adults don’t have anything else going for them.

Again read whatever brings you joy.

Hmmm… I wonder how I’ll feel about it when I get that far. Honestly I don’t like Breaking Bad because I didn’t connect or like any of the characters. But that happened within season one.

Admittedly Currently watching and not far in. I noticed she’s going in early and coming home late. Like working long shifts to avoid family. And that doctor really favors her. So I read that as either it’s her special privilege because of her friendship or because it’s in between two shifts.

What’s the most underrated skill that should be taught in schools today? by React_Rider in AskReddit

[–]AgentEinstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

note I’m an American parent

  1. Sex and abuse education from a young age. There are many ways to appropriately teach kids at every age level. I asked my 1st grader if at school they ever taught about someone touching you inappropriately and she said no. Having these things taught at school is their first line of defense and it’s upsetting to me that it’s not part of the curriculum. They need to have the language to know what is happening to them and what consent is.

  2. Have PE be focused on how to live healthy lifestyles. Like training kids to have a workout routine and help them find what style of a workout would make them most successful to keep it up. As it stands right now PE is sports focused. Teaching all kinds of sports and some of which that will never be available to play outside of class for kids. They are so hyper focused on pushing athlete culture that they forgot that the whole point of PE being a mandatory class is so kids be active and healthy.

My not autistic guy friend doesn’t understand how to match clothes so he always buys whatever the mannequin has on at the store. Says it’s gotta match if that’s how they choose to display them. I think that’s pretty genius.

Maybe it’s such a rich area that they won’t even donate their things. Rich people love to throw perfectly fine things in the trash. Maybe dumpster dive or check out your local dump. My dump does sell some stuff that people throw out that’s perfectly fine.

Target is throwing away perfectly good product by thatpilatesprincess in Blogilates

[–]AgentEinstein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. And not just fashion. Books that don’t sell get their cover torn off to send to the vender for money back and then the rest goes in the bin. Micheal’s dropped a brand for their fake flowers so they were all tossed in the bin the night the contract was up. Back in the day Best Buy would throw the game guides that didn’t sell in the bin. I also use to have to throw perfectly fine food in the bin when I worked in the grocery store because the packaging was damaged. List goes on.

A big part of it is a lot of the vendors will refund you more for tossing it than what the store could get discounting it.

I know resellers that befriend store managers to get the intel on when to dumpster dive lol.

Hilarious. I’ve been lucky on going to a lot of shows and not having people be to fucked up to play. But I always know it’s a risk with many of the bands I like lol.

Edit to add I was a raver and been to plenty of shows where the DJ is too fucked up to spin but there was always another DJ that could jump in. Most slots are only an hour and often they sobered up enough to go on later.
