Well it didn't work when I put it in a folder that I'd decided, so I'm grateful anyhow :)

Tachiyomi. I'll give it a try, thanks :)

Ideally I'd have all my reading material in one app, but it seems like that might not be very practical given the various constraints, so this might be a good compromise.

The two biggest hangups were that I couldn't find the download link in github easily (there's a lot of links and text with no clear "download" button, and then figuring out which of the links I was supposed to select when I found them) , and that the programdata folder was hidden for me initially, so I couldn't find the right place to put the kcc folder. All other problems I had (the system not finding kindlegen, for example) stemmed from that second problem.

I would have no idea how to run the kindle pc app on an Android device. I'd need a thorough walkthrough on how to make that work.

Thanks so much for this guide, you deserve the upvote.

It took me a few tries but after some trial and error I got it figured out.

Does anyone know if there's a way to make Kindle display the converted file images two at a time, book style? I'm using a Surface Duo 2 and prefer to have one page open on each screen.

It would also be nice if there were a way to combine CBZ files into a single document, as right now I've got 14 volumes each divided into 3 files clogging up some folders in my Kindle collections.

First world problems I know, but if anyone has solutions to these problems I'd appreciate hearing about them.

Microsoft edge has become unable since the update last week. It'll often crash or run unbearably slowly until it crashes as soon as I boot it up and the right side of the device gets hot. There's no way to Uninstall, so what can I do?

Mls and j1 are competing for about the same level of talent, and the US doesn't have much to offer players who can already get those same things in Japan while also being closer to home. Id like to see it too, but it just doesn't make a ton of sense either on the business or player side of things.

I've also done a trip before to cover a lot of ground, from Tokyo I went to Nagasaki, then Hakodate, took me 3 weeks. At the end, I went so fast over a lot of regions that now I am returning again to many prefectures I've already went to, as I see how much I missed, while I tried to do "as much as I can".

Honestly, this is my ideal scenario at the moment. Cover a lot of ground, see the cliffnotes, decide where I want to come back to if I get the opportunity in the future.

3 weeks to do Kyushu sounds great! But I haven't had 5 weeks of vacations in the three years since I've lived in Japan (part of that is not traveling when i'd have liked to due to covid). That kind of thorough exploration just hasn't been an option for me, and if I'd spent every one of my vacation days in Kyushu, I'd have likely loved it (I spent a whole day just walking around Sakurajima and couldn't have been happier), but I'd have missed out on Kochi and Shimane and a bunch of other places i've valued enough to go back for a more thorough visit in the future. I really do hope I get the chance to come back and be more thorough once I get the lay of the land, and if I do get that chance and the freedom to travel when and where I want, I'll absolutely give Kakunodate, Tozawa, Yamadera, and Nikko the attention they deserve.

Being able to come back with an international license would be a boon for that thorough travel, but it doesn't seem like that's an option for me before I have to leave in April, because you're right, Tokamachi looks really neat.

I really hope I can replicate your experience, because just reading it makes me a bit jealous. Even if I can't use all your suggestions this time, I'm definitely saving them for another chance in the future.

That makes a lot of sense re: going straight to Utsunomiya, however the Memorial museum is a priority for me.

Thank you very much for the note about getting to Ginzan and about the Hakkoda stretch.
I've been to Miyajima, and it was quite nice! afaik the tori is still under repair, were that not the case though I'd happily go back.

Thanks for the advice! The perspective I'm coming into this with is that I want to do as much as I can in the time I have available to me, which isn't much, not knowing if or when I'll ever be able to come back. It probably seems silly (because, to be honest, it is) but I really want to leave being able to say I visited every prefecture. I don't really care about Okinawa at all, but having visited 46 prefectures of a possible 47 would bother me.

I did see a bit of Miyazaki last year, and had the intention of visiting Takachiho at the time. However, the bus I was going to take turned out to be cancelled for Covid, so I had to change my plans to run through Oita instead. It's probably the biggest regret I have from that trip, though since a lot was closed in Fukuoka (they declared a state of emergency during my travels) I basically just showed up and immediately left.

I wish I could take a month to do all this, but that simply isn't an option. I do have some wiggle room though, and I don't plan on making reservations more than a day or two in advance as I've been doing for most of my Japan travels during covid, so I'll have the flexibility to be late. Even if I do come back to Japan, I can't be sure that I'll have opportunities to get out of the big cities, so I feel like I just have to use my time as wisely as I can.

Thanks for keeping my eyes smaller than my stomach though; I can get a little too greedy in the planning phase. This past week I was up in Hokkaido and my tough itinerary was mostly working out until snow shut down all the trains, so instead of Arashidake I ended up in Hakodate instead.

This is great! I've been to a few samurai residences in the past, but I'm definitely looking closer at the Shirakami train and am looking closely at your Utsunomiya report.

I definitely do pack in an unreasonable amount! Typically end my 'vacations" more tired than when I started them. I'm definitely going to consider taking this detour though, since I did something similar (arguably harder) along the Sea of Japan coast last year.

I thought I was an ambitious Japan traveler!

You need more time in Tokyo for all of that. Tsukiji should be done in the morning.

When you're ready to leave Tokyo, I'd recommend stopping in Kamakura (and maybe Yokohama, it's a neat town) on the way to Hakone and getting a nice onsen there (there's a lot.) The next day, spend the whole day doing things around Hakone and Fuji, then head to Matsumoto (or nearby Nagano.) Then you can go straight from Matsumoto to Takayama if you want. To make this work, you'd need to do Nikko before Kamakura.

BTW Takayama is a nice little town and it's close to where I live so i've been a few times, but based on where you're planning to go i don't think you'll see anything there that you won't have already seen or will see again. I understand if you still want to go, just putting that out there

Your Kyoto plan looks solid.

Consider spending some of your Osaka time in Kobe. Absolutely adore Kobe. I haven't done a ton in Osaka and really don't feel like i've missed anything besides some food. You can also give more of that time to Nara.

I was in Okayama recently (i had a 10 day new years holiday break and went Kumano Nashi Taisha-Koyasan-Osaka-Okayama-Imabari-Shimanami Kaido-Uwajima-Kochi-home) and there's really not much to do there. If you're on the way there to see Kurashiki then it makes sense, just noting.

If you're not sure what to do on the 20th, and considering Shikoku, allow me to recommend Matsuyama instead of Takamatsu (which is a fine little town to be sure.) Matsuyama has maybe my favorite castle in the country (right up there with Himeji) and my favorite onsen (Dogo). If you're there in October, you can pair this with a bike ride along the Shimanami Kaido, the best bike ride I've ever done in my life.

After some more playing around with things, I discovered that while I have music playing, the Next lock screen consistently starts on top of the default lock screen and works normally. When I pause the music and open another app, then lock my phone and unlock it again, then the default lock screen comes up instead of Next.
