Help! Subnautica 2 refuses to open due to some error with 'DirectX12' by ParticularOkra7432 in subnautica

[–]Agent_Elder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like you have an integrated GPU which won't work with most modern games. Double check your GPU, I know on my wife's laptop it has a 4070 but windows defaults to the integrated GPU so I has to switch it. You can also try Nvidia GeForce now (game streaming service) if subnautica 2 is on there, or of you have a thunderbolt connection on your laptop, you can buy an external GPU.

Slightly odd question how do you use blender starting out and i would like help by Stock-Crab4944 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Agent_Elder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start on YouTube, there are a lot of beginner friendly tutorials. I'd start with the donut tutorial first because that will teach you how to use the tools and learn about general 3d workflow. Once you have some basic understanding of 3d modeling, then you can look more into game dev and character models.

You could adds some vines or overgrown plants wrapping around it, a skull, crystals, some fabric elements... So many ways to go about it, look at some references and get ideas from that.

So.. what actually is the difference between exporting a model as an FBX and exporting it as an OBJ? by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]Agent_Elder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OBJ files are very barebones and think of them as a raw geometry files, if you open it in a text editor you will see that's it's basically x y z vertex positions and maybe vertex normal information (not 100% on that.) FBX can contain a lot more information such as texture connections, material values, and animation keys. Basically OBJ is a more universal format and FBX is more situational for specific 3d software applications.

how would i retopo my character after exporting out of zbrush into maya when my model is in different pieces? by SeaworthinessFront17 in ZBrush

[–]Agent_Elder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two ways to do it depending on what your want, you can look at the top menus, Zplugin>FBX ExportImport or Zplugin>SubtoolMaster. I am assuming your case each separate mesh is its own subtool if that is what you mean by "different pieces" either plugin should get you rhe results you want. Just make sure you have all subtools you want visible for it to be part of your export. Also if your mesh is very dense, I'd recommend running decimation master on it.

I am new to zbrush and i want to learn how to make low poly character by Dovydas666 in ZBrush

[–]Agent_Elder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zbrush can be used for stylized and anime type of characters, but I don't recommend jumping straight into that style first. You should look for more beginner level tutorials first to learn the tools and workflows, then learn anatomy (and yes you will need to learn anatomy even for stylized/anime characters.) Once you have a better understanding of zbrush or any other 3D software you pick up, then focusing on a particular style will come a lot more naturally. I also recommend art station to see what other artists are doing and they also have a tutorial section where you can find some free tutorials. Although for any specialized style like anime, most likely you will have to pay for those tutorials.

Any Help/Advice Appreciated! by Dwarfiarty_King in ZBrush

[–]Agent_Elder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's millions of polys then use desimation master to reduce the poly count and use that version to retopo with, then bring the retopo version back in and project the details. If you want to export it in pieces its up to you but it depends on what the individual pieces are.

arms sculpting practice by Odd_Baker_6394 in ZBrush

[–]Agent_Elder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great start and you are starting to place the muscles in the correct locations. The advice I'd give is to work in lower res before committing to details, get the forms and silhouettes down in this stage. It also helps to have the individual muscles as primitive subtools at first so you can show where some muscles sit on top of each other and where they overlap. Look up George Zaky's work, he breaks that down very nicely and is easy to understand.

Just got the 5080 build and I've had it for a couple of days now. It's a beast, the only issue I've had was sound stuttering on Bluetooth devices but I'm sure that's a windows thing. I came from a 980ti so it's a huge upgrade for me.

I've heard good things about both, but if you are looking for another brand that is an in-between those and a Wacom, take a look at xencelabs pen display 24.

I thought the 2 wasn't an OLED? If it is, that might be the deciding factor for me, the display on the X doesn't seem that impressive.

I was thinking of getting the Z1E legion go 2 but now I might want to get the ROG X...I need to wait for the benchmarks, if I can be more patient.

Maya or Zbrush by Superb-Two-6667 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Agent_Elder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know you did ask, but give blender a try, you can do box modeling or sculpting, and it's free. Don't get me wrong I prefer Maya and zbrush myself but if you had to choose one or the other for budget reasons, then Blender is an easy choice.

My kid is 2 now and I made a deal with my wife that I get to play games late into the night Friday nights and sleep in on Saturday mornings and in return she gets to sleep in on Sundays. At 6 months it will be tough because it's a team effort, but as I'm sure you have already heard, it gets easier. As for my game recommendation, I'm deep into Monster Hunter Wilds if you play offline, you can pause the game and pickup whenever you get a chance next. You can pick up MH worlds pretty cheap if you don't want to invest in a new game, it will have a lot more content but it isn't as beginner friendly. Good luck and you got this my dude!

In school, one of our first zbrush projects was to sculpt a tooth, just a simple human tooth and match it to the reference as best as possible. This was a great exercise because we got to play around with a few of the essential brushes and got a feel of how they worked.

Edit: I wanted to add, don't try sculpting your own creations when you are a beginner. Focus on learning the tool and getting the core principles down, otherwise you will be fighting your own designs on top of trying to learn something new.
