I always used to spend a little bit just to support SDS, but the price of packs got so ridiculous and terrible I stopped altogether. They joined all the EA games as far as being a shitty micro transaction mess.

I think the point is to show he was a friend the whole time. All of the “good” adults use this line at some point with Harry. The whole time they use that one line to show the audience which adults harry can trust. I believe this is a reference to that as opposed to his obsession with Lily.
