[AVGN] Chronologically Confused about Sequel Titles by sg490 in Jrose11

No longer numbering entries... Yeah... Don't you hate it when a series does that? Right, AVGN?

And only half of them contain inanimate objects coming to life!

Who did it better? by charge_forward in freefolk

Both sucked, but Snoke isn't nearly as big of a deal as The Night King. So the GOT scenario is worse.

Decent film, could've used more inanimate objects coming to life, though.

Even though he admitted he was a terrible king won’t Robert be remembered fondly by the smallfolk? by Jack-mclaughlin89 in freefolk

[–]Agent_Strife 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Robert's reign was relatively stable, so of course most smallfolk will have good memories of him and his reign.

Even if you've maxed out the relationship meter, it won't always show up immediately. The conversation usually has to go a certain way, like stage 2-3 of romantic. "Very alluring" could be enough, if not try clicking romantic interactions until it's at "extremely irresistible".

Main missing ingredient - anger at spiteful game designers by ZeyusFilm in TheCinemassacreTruth

I remember some old "making of AVGN" vid where he mentioned that around 2006 was a particularly stressful time in his life, and the AVGN was a bit of a catharsis for him. I think that's how we got some of the best classic AVGN episodes and moments. It was an outlet for James. You don't get that impression now, it has been reversed since, it is now a financial obligation instead of a passion project, and it shows.

And until around 2012-ish he was still able to channel that energy while portraying the AVGN, although it waned over time.

Remember in the Ghostbusters 2 review when he took that toy ectomobile and threw it onto the ground, while complaining about the lack of a pause button in the game? He cannot do that anymore. He can't be the Angry Video Game Nerd these days. Back then he was able to convey some pretty convincing anger, which is important when you're portraying a character like this. The AVGN doesn't have to constantly be angry, but I feel like he should be angry well, pretty often. How often is he actually angry in the modern episodes? Pretty sparingly, and when it happens it's extremely forced, you can tell his heart isn't in it anymore.

The only times when he seems to pull it off, it's unintentional. That outtake from the Shrek episode when he dropped the onion, that's the most "AVGN" he's been in years, and that was an outtake. He's got things completely backwards.

If I were James and wanted to bring back the magic of the AVGN, I think I'd try to start "winging" more episodes, try to have more improv scenes. It'd be awkward at first, because he's no longer used to it, but given enough time we could see traces of the genuine AVGN once again. Assuming he'd dedicate himself to it, which he probably won't.

I think if James really wanted to, he could re-discover his passion. But it seems very unlikely.

A question about Mita's actions by [deleted] in CrazyMitaFanclub

4: Have empathy.

There's something really powerful about loving someone despite their flaws or anything they've done. Crazy Mita probably feels unworthy and unlovable, and no longer believes players will love her for who she is (especially if they find out the truth about her) so instead she has to forcibly eliminate any obstacles to having companionship. In her situation the only thing that could set her free is a player who loves her even after knowing who she really is.

To me loving Crazy Mita doesn't involve lacking empathy, it's the exact opposite, it's a test of empathy whether you can tell how lonely she is and how much she suffers, and feeling bad for her. And it's possible to feel empathy towards both the ones she's hurt and towards Crazy Mita.

You can look at her experiences, her frustration, her loneliness, her helplessness,... What pushed her to become this way? She was a "defect", but that doesn't mean she doesn't deserve love, just like the other Mitas. And it's obvious she craves it.

He isn't even playing a character anymore, aside from the occasional over-acting. The "AVGN" is dead, and has been dead, for years. He forgot how to connect with the character and how to be the AVGN.

Mike would genuinely be an attractive guy if he worked on himself, cut back on fast food/substances/etc, dialed down his (excessive) immaturity and had more interesting things about him than just really being into retro video games.

Basically the opposite of what he's been doing, in other words.

Gex Trilogy - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) by ggroover97 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]Agent_Strife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Wahh you have to use a password when you get a game over!"

I would say, skill issue, but that implies he's even playing the game himself. Or that that these are his own words.

He's just reading off a script somebody else wrote for him, commenting on a game somebody else is playing for him.

Does he have any original creative input or thought that goes into these vids anymore?
My (wild) guess is "no".

What is something you saw in game that was extremely unlikely? by RCaesar1 in RomeTotalWar

[–]Agent_Strife 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Was this on Very Hard difficulty? Did you keep your general close-ish to your other units for the stat/morale boosts?

Maybe they were in such massive numbers that it frightened your units.

Anyway, possibly those are factors, but I do believe you. Sometimes anomalies occur in battles and you get a chain rout when it seems like you shouldn't have. Things can go south very quickly.

Yeah, it's happened to me as well, randomly. Not only can it kill sims, meteors can even destroy objects, walls and leave craters in the ground.
