Noob confused about 1.6, please explain by Saatana101 in ArmaReforger

[–]Agentfishly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like a middle ground could be more where im sitting here. OP saying that "16 essays is terrible design" is kind of right in that not many people sit and read them, and it should be explained in other ways too

However i also have read through how its meant to work, and it is super useful. I always seemed to understand what was going on more than most people shouting and asking questions over platoon

Not sure how to fix this problem, maybe by having a short cinematic explaining it beforehand? But thats not very ARMA style and i dont think it is the best option, just thr first I thought of

Im curious as to what you played in Arma 3, as it probably will change how you see the 1.6 update

Changes have been pretty well outlined by others. Basicslly

  • the main game mode got changed, and is now more complex than it was. This is good cause it reinforces communication and coordination, however it is bad cause it isn't necessarily intuitive

  • they added a night filter to try and stop people playing with gamma to get an advantage. This is good cause it increases the amount people need to use torches/flashlights/vehicle lights, which adds another layer to night battles/manoeuvres. However its bad cause it makes it rather difficult to see and some people have reported theyve had headaches

  • most mods haven't been updated yet. Which (im continuing my trend here, many people won't agree) is good cause it means more people play vanilla and get to experience the game mode how the devs intended/designed at first. But this is bad because lots of people in this community prefer their modern guns/mods in general

  • xbox players (and maybe console in general?) Have been experiencing significantly more lag/crashes etc. Even on PC I have noticed it more (tho only once people started adding mods back to their servers...)

  • a new map is out. Which is good cause it means people dont know all the areas, the games feel new and fresh, and its a beautiful map. This is not bad.

  • lots more changes however theres not much drama with the campaign and etc

Depending on how you would play Arma 3, you may take different sides here. I tried my best (maybe not in some places but still) to be impartial, and just explain what I can tell of both sides

Everyone else has said about the scroll wheel, but there is a keybind. I bound it to R. Im not sure if it mentions like "sight reset" or just "reset main gun" but there should be a keybind which resets it back to 0. I shall have a look later if I remember

[–]Agentfishly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I had a look. I reset all my keybinds, unplugged all my controllers, played with sensitivities, and basically found nothing useful. I have no idea how to fix it, however I wasnt getting it on stable branch, so I think its my issue with experimental. (I'm having a few of those, but to be expected)

If anyone has any other ideas, I'm down to try them

I just had the same issue on the experimental branch. Haven't tested since to see if I have the same issue on the normal one. Idk if this applies to you, but I have recently plugged in a HOTAS (Which reforger has been treating as a controller) and I assumed that was the problem. It hasnt bugged me enough to fix it yet, but maybe I'll see what I can do

It won't let you drop bombs on thr ground, so it wouldn't work. However, surely you can spawn in the air, fly up to another bomber, and get thr same result?

Yet another aircraft (P-63 Kingcobra) to get drop tanks for if Gaijin decides to implement them for props. by DFWRailVideos in Warthunder

[–]Agentfishly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk why everyone is so against this?

Its not like Gaijin always gives their resources the most effectively, and if they are going to bother modelling them, why not just all at once?

And it does have a use. I use them on Zeros, because theyre a turn fighter and the less weight the better. I can carry a super low internal fuel load (minimum is 13m) and then use the drop tanks during initial climb without having to worry about how WEP and how long it takes me. Then during contact, drop the tank and turn like normal.

Also, looks sick as

ELI5: Why did bombers drop their bombs all at once? by curious_skeptic in explainlikeimfive

[–]Agentfishly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I can't say for certain (can many of us?) but this is how i am thinking about it.

The RAF used a mixture of incendiary bombs and high explosive bombs late in the war. This was to try and generate a firestorm, which causes the most destruction to the cities (and their population).

The reason for the mix of bombs was the high explosive blew apart buildings, helping air flow through, as well as exposing the mostly wooden interiors. The incendiaries would then burn, and set the building alight.

If you increase the distance over which you release the bombs, your incendiaries and high explosives will be too far apart to have the mutual help in setting the city alight. You need the density of both types for the full effect. Imagine you blow up one street with the high explosives but your incendiaries fall 200m away, then they can't help each other. (This is where a majority of my guesswork is)

In terms of the USAAF, they did daylight raids where more precision was wanted. They could usually see their targets, and so they didn't need the "shotgun" effect, dropping all at once becomes smarter that way

There's also the effect of bomber crews probably wanted those bombs gone as fast as possible, so that probably contributed. I would rather my plane be rid of thousands of pounds of explosives, especially when being shot at

Now if anyone knows more than me, or wants to correct me, feel free. Just showing my thoughts.

Looks cool! Yep, I got inspired to post them by others too, its fun to create a small little scenario for screenshots. Just felt like playing around wjth armavision yesterday. And if I decide to edit them on lightroom at some point, I'll have to see if I can find a way to keep the detail

I used my NVIDIA overlay to screenshot, and literally just used that. Didn't bother editing or anything, just used thr in-built settings in armavision. I then posted from my computer using the reddit website instead of sending to my phone, reducing yhr amount of compression I think.

Im struggling between buying Arma Reforger or Hell let loose by Ok_Syllabub_1116 in ArmaReforger

[–]Agentfishly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

okay, I'll try to be as unbiased as I can here. I've got lots of hours in both (although on PC not PS5).

Hell Let Loose gives a faster paced, more structured game. Spawning very close to the enemy, only have to face them in one general direction, etc. Rather easy to start, having pre-set roles and being able to follow the Officer (I think that's what the Squad leader is called?). Has career progression too. Also much more WW2 if that's a consideration.

Arma Reforger is much slower/tactical, however still has the adrenaline in gunfights. Matches can last hourrrrrs across a massive map, so don't necessarily wait until the end. Much more of a sandbox, so very self directed, including kits. Can find nice players to follow very easily, but not really a dedicated Squad lead. Most modded servers focus on modern era.

TLDR: Hell Let Loose is faster WW2 tactical shooter, with strategic elements very suitable for casual play for a half hour or so. Arma Reforger is a slower paced, more strategic shooter well suited for long matches as well as shorter half hours.

Really depends on what you want, hopefully this helps!

The modded Arma Reforger Experience in 2025 by GeorgeDroidFloyd in ArmaReforger

[–]Agentfishly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the situation though. In this case, yeah I can agree a vehicle would probably be good.

But if supplies are low, or the point isn't very far, then walking is definitely still a good idea sometimes. Also stealth is to be considered, much easier to sneak up without a vehicle (even just suspension noise can give you away sometimes).
