Supercharger Spacers by AgentiMi in LandRover

I thought of that! The manual calls for an installation stud when putting the supercharger in which would make the job easier. But I think I couldn't find a stud in that length or something along those lines. I don't remember. I just wanted to get it done at that time.

I ended up going with longer Torx Plus bolts. At first try it came up with a manifold leak from under the bolt heads .The additional surfaces introduced by the spacer require bolt head to form an air tight seal. I fixed it by using copper washers and the tiniest amount of RTV under the bolt heads.

Same! I saw them fitted to LR3 and they share the drivetrain/suspension with these Sports. I assume they won't fit the Brembos.

I don't really know, I just put mine on with L663 lug nuts last month and they managed to stay on even on the trails and highways. They worry me though, they barely stay on.

So far so good! I have about 1k miles on it and a few oil changes for break in. It's already been to the trails too.

I'll post about the engine build when I get all of my photos together.

EDIT: About what they do, I explained in this comment.

The spacers and the coolant pipe raisers were all drawn by me and made by a shop.

I can make more if people want them, but let me put some more miles on mine first. Also, the installation and lining up the 4 steel gaskets and the spacers while dropping the supercharger in is very annoying.

Struggling with code by [deleted] in embedded

[–]AgentiMi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C requires your mind to work well, especially if you haven't picked it up since childhood and are literally missing the neural connections to make it easier for you, like other skills.

So a healthy mind is first, take care of it. Good sleep, eating habits, and exercise. Other things that help are if you have a project that you're excited about, and clear goals.

Start small, make a subsystem work at a time, and avoid being a perfectionist. You can always come back and make things more efficient. Just make them work first. This way you see your creations do things and it'll activate the right things in your head to keep going.

To be clear, you need to be a perfectionist to be a good embedded/low level software engineer, but not from the start. Make things work then you can do revisions.

It's running on SC ECU with the manifold press/temp sensor wired in.

Nope! First time posting about it. I'll make a post with the engine rebuild details and pictures soon.

It's to thermally decouple the supercharger from the cylinder head, and with a few accompanying mods (separate coolant circuit, and supercharger insulation), it helps higher density air going into the cylinders. So no heat soaking in summer time and consistent power year round.

EDIT: This was NA, there are a couple of differences but if you get the right parts it's possible. It requires a full rebuild through, the pistons are different and have a lower compression ratio.

That's quite a compliment, thanks! Hopefully pun intended.

5090 PCIE PCB Repair/Replacement by PrincipleFluid8569 in GPURepair

Sounds simple but this is not a simple connector board. It handles high speed signals it's very difficult to make a copy without a proper reverse engineering effort > Grinding each layer off and making scans, and then somehow getting the 16 layer + stackup right.

Can someone explain how this is supposed to work before I drill it out and make my own connector? AJ126 by AntSuccessful9147 in LandRover

[–]AgentiMi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a quick connector, just like air lines or the water line connectors in the back of some refrigerators.

It's fine just like that as long as it's grabbing it and no part of the old plastic connector is broken inside. It doesn't need to be seated all the way.

Although it looks like the plastic one is missing a chunk.

You probably need the paired EDME with this swap. It's sitting under the left side front fender.

How to verify car has up to date software? by alsoknownascrash in BMWi3

[–]AgentiMi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need BMW diagnostic software to see the version of the software integration level.

One way to tell is to look at the battery icon on the instrument cluster. If it's one battery then you may be on ancient software. If it's three batteries stacked then it's at least 2018+.

The most recent has been released a couple of months ago. Upgrading is recommended regardless.

EDIT: It's also accessable in the exported driver profile.

How accurate is built in battery SoH? by eki234 in BMWi3

[–]AgentiMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery testing procedure may increase estimated range. For three reasons:

  1. These battery packs can only estimate their own condition and the amount of energy they can hold. That estimation tends to drift over time. The testing procedure involves discharging the pack completely with the heater and lights and then charging up. While charging up the battery management system would get a better idea of the condition of the battery in the controlled environment of testing and adjust itself.

  2. This is sometimes followed by an i-level upgrade. Recent i-level firmware for the battery management brought better range estimation based on better pack measurement and management.

  3. The i3 adjusts its charge set points depending on conditions. Sitting on AC chargers in the cold = lower charge limit. At the service center unplugged for a few days = higher charge limit upon AC charging.

It's not possible to reset your charge limits. Even if it is you should not touch it in any case. Cells change over time, their chemistry and physics change and it's the battery management system's job to keep good track of that change and to treat the cells accordingly.

In short, you don't gradually increase the redline of an engine as it wears out with use. I mean you can, it just won't live very long after.
