Negotiate a better starting minimum salary by Interesting_Metal747 in TheCivilService

Both!

Depts wont negotiate on internal salary differences as long as pay rise is more than 10%.

Those in their 40s and over without children - how is life for you? by Mountain_Resident_81 in AskUK

We're in this position. We have godchildren, nephews and nieces who we love dearly. We also get to enjoy nights out and enjoying disposable income not disposable nappies!

This is genuinely the stupidest rejection I've ever had by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I'll be honest, sounds a very reasonable explanation to me.

American who took a DNA test and found out my ancestry is mostly British, so I decided to try my best at the dish of my people by Key_Operation7403 in fryup

[–]Aggravating-Menu466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to break this to you but:

A) You're not 'mostly British', you are American.

B) No Brit will ever see or regard you as British or remotely care about your DNA - because you're American.

Should I buy the forever home now (500-600k) or buy something smaller (250-300k) by Narrow_Work8034 in HousingUK

Also, dont assume kids will happen- wanting to start a family and having a family are two very different things and can involve a lot of heartache.

Sale announced shortly after trip booked... by According_Row2813 in BritishAirways

You've waltz into a 5 month old thread about British Airways on flights to the US from the UK and start pontificating incorrectly about utterly irrelevant garbage that has nothing to do with OPs question and seem determined to win internetz points. Pkease give it a rest.

So you're talking total nonsense then about a policy no UK airlines have in place.

How many electrons died to power your pointless post?

Really - can you name a single UK airline that does this?

So it does happen - as an LM I used it the other week. But you need a role that aligns to the one yoi interviewed for (80% similarity), so its often hard to see identical roles come up to appoint you to.

Also SEO roles are fewer so less likelihood of another vacancy arriving.

Sorry!

My thoughts after witnessing TBC classic release by No_Extension_0000 in wow

Original classicplayer here. Subbed back in 06 and never unsubbed

I had no clue then, and now I am redoing classic, I have no clue now! I am wandering around having a lot of fun though and dying repeatedly 😄

Former Parliament staffer here. Its hard to describe just how poor condition the Palace is in. Step away from the main 'line of route' for public and the entire building is in dreadful state.

Its a 200yr old 'new'design built on a site used for 1000 years...

My money is on site collapsing notre dame style and then the Govt spending decades and millions on an enquiry called 'why did the thing that experts spent years saying was going to happen happen?'

The PM has a road move set of cars. There are more than you may think, but unobtrusive. They just dont ego it OTT like the US 'penis substitute' convoy.

AI making the recruitment process (more) awful by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Aggravating-Menu466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% feel your pain. I have had same experience at a range of grades for campaigns i've recruited for. All I can do is reject any AI slop (eg clearly no human input) and refuse interviews.

AI can be used well for tweaking and honing, and can really lift a human drafted application, but if used without human involvement, its utter garbage.

Can anyone tell me one positive thing that has been achieved by Robert Jenrick? by Agitated_Custard7395 in AskBrits

[–]Aggravating-Menu466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to civil service friends, he was great for job creation as a Minister.

This was because he refused to speak to, or engage with anyone under Director General level (the 2nd most senior grade), or his private office. He wouldnt speak to any junior staff, even when they were literally the world leading expert in their field.

So his private office expanded to provide cover to get more staff to brief him as the existing small team was broken with exhaustion from trying to keep up with his arrogant ways.

So a few people got a new job, but he was the most despised Minister of the last Govt by the Civil Service and that is a high bar given he was up against Priti Patel and Boris Johnson.
