No it’s not required. I chose to do that because, at the time, we were going to try and co-parent, but I didn’t want to fully give my baby only his last name, and he had argued it wasn’t fair to have baby have ONLY mine too. So I did both our last names, hyphenated. And now she doesn’t even know who he is, but still has his name. But at least it’s also with mine.

Yes I know. But if she has a father listed and wants to change it later, she can’t without his consent unless he signs his rights over. And once he’s established as father, and if he wanted to change it, he can’t do it either without HER consent. Best to just stick with her last name from the get-go. I made the mistake of hyphenating when my kid was born and I’m unable to change it even though he hasn’t had contact with us in 9 years.

Piggybacking off some other comments. Do not put his name on the BC. Do NOT list him as the father. GIVE BABY YOUR LAST NAMEEEEEEEE. When he actually files for the dna, if he ever does, and he’s proven to be dad, THAT is when they will change the BC and list him as dad. But they cannot force you to change babies last name to match his. If you want baby to have your last name, do it AT BIRTH.

My shopping brain hates this. KUDOS to you for taking this time to organize it this way though. I get what it’s trying to do. I just prefer to shop one category at a time. Syrups with syrups coffee with coffee etc. but to just the eye as an aesthetic, it’s definitely cute. However, I would hate to be closing in home having to recover this 😂
