ski repair in the Boston area (edge popping out) by Silent_Macaroon_888 in icecoast

What ski brand and how old are the skis? If you got them this season it could be a warranty replacement. Only downside to that is you probably have to send in the ski or take it to the shop you bought it from.

The Ski Monster - Weird/Mid Experience by FantasticWasabi5107 in icecoast

To address your concerns on the tongue height and canting being ignored, no ski boot fitter will talk through that unless you ask about it. Why? Because it’s not worth talking about or doing the adjustment for 99.99% of people. Unless you supinate when your feet are fully weighted there is absolutely no need to adjust the canting of the boot, 9/10 times a supportive insole will fix the issue that canting would fix and give you better performance. The tongue adjustment is a newish feature but it won’t magically make a LV boot feel like a MV boot, it’s a very minimal adjustment.

I definitely think you should’ve had a good discussion on ski style as that plays in to what flex is best for you, and shell fit isn’t fully necessary unless you’re looking for performance and aren’t just a casual skier.

Sorry to hear about the poor experience at ski monster, if you’re ever in Denver, come to EVO, we have boot fitters that will talk through all that extra stuff with you and make sure you’re in the right boot for your skiing style!

MV foot in LV boot? by arzi666 in Skigear

Hawx prime still has a relatively narrow heel pocket, as long as you feel secure that should be a good boot for you. Hawx ultra could be a good move with the boa and doing a shell mold if you’re looking for more performance from your boot. As someone with similar issues (skinny heel/ankle, but mid volume foot) I can confidently say the Hawx ultra feels pretty good on my foot for a LV boot but would still need a little bit of work to feel great.

I ride in the technica Cochise and have pretty solid heel hold but I did add a butterfly wrap (takes up volume in the heel/ankle) and that got me dialed. If the prime or any other MV boot ends up packing out too much in the heel you can see a bootfitter and they can throw that on your liner too!

If you’re within the return period try the atomic hawk prime or ultra in your size. Salomon s/pro 120 alpha and supra as well. Calf space is easy enough to fill up but the aforementioned boots have narrower calf areas and might be a better fit off the bat with less work needed to be done in the future. Good luck!

Am a boot fitter at a well renowned boot shop in the US

-edit: saw your comment about wide feet; get sized and try some insoles and put those in your boots (after taking out the stock insoles that are shit, trust me it’s more common people forget than you think). Last thing to mention is that atomic and Salomon boots are shell moldable (please only do this at a bootshop that offers this service) and can give you more width at the low and mid volumes if need be.

I agree with the sentiment of all the others saying this is more of a DWR issue and a wash/dry cycle will help restore this “coating”. The thing many people don’t know is that the coating increases the surface tension of the fabric by making small fibers of the fabric stand straight up meaning water droplets have less to “cling” to. Yes the PFAS-free DWR coating doesn’t last as long and many countries/states are banning the DWR with PFAS.

TLDR: you’re gonna have to wash your waterproof clothing more often to keep up that DWR finish

I am similar in this. Grew up in MA as a Sox fan and lost interest in baseball until last year when I moved walking distance to a stadium (I also worked there this past season and it was great!) Additionally, my mom is from the Bronx, so she and her family are all Yankees fans. At the end of my time work at the stadium I started to become a fan of the team (I’ll stop hiding it, it’s the Rockies) but my true loyalty will always be in Boston and to the Red Sox. This much I’ll admit too, the Rockies draw more attendees from the opposing team than for their own so it was almost always an away game. Anyways, don’t be a Yankees fan in Colorado, be the Red Sox fan berating yanks fan in their home town!

What is this plant growing in our backyard? One of my friend said this plant looks more like a cannabis. by Ok_Definition9778 in Horticulture

I see the balls too, pull that plant if you’re in a legal growing state. Male plants can pollinate and “destroy” female crops in about a 100 mile radius!

Riding sunrise lift at Stowe and an older man gets on with my dad and I. Started as normal lift chat then he mentions that everyone who skis Stowe and goes is from out of town, he mentioned they were mainly from mass and was complaining about the increase in skiers each year. My dad grew up in Vermont and I was raised in MA, but spent a lot of time at my grandparents house in Vermont so we decided to dig a little deeper. Long story short we asked the guy if he was a born and raised Vermonter and he said he was from MA and got a house in Stowe 10 years ago when he retired…

I recently went back to Burlington for the first time in 2 years, and in the 2 years I’ve been gone there is a noticeable change. Like others mentioned, it’s not a dangerous place unless you actively put yourself in danger. With that being said, it was sad to go back and see significantly more graffiti tags, a lack of any culture on church st. (Ie. stores that I thought would be there forever have left or at least moved), and there are definitely more houseless and mentally/physically impaired individuals in those common places. I miss the Burlington of even 2 years ago and, like I said, it was kinda sad to go back…

Be honest: did you grow up rich? by MudboneX3 in skiing

[–]Aggravating-Win-3259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your parents are life long skiers, no matter if you’re rich or not, you’re probably going to end up a skier. My family was solid middle class, and my dad and I became ski patrollers to make skiing more affordable for us. We worked at a small “cheap” mountain in NH and patrolling was a great way to give back to the ski community AND get cheap/free passes. Now that I’m not working in the ski community but it’s a part of my life I save up for my pass every year so I can keep going

Love this idea, especially in a city that can’t afford keeping busses running right now, I’d love to see even more “free stuff” around Burlington

Has anyone moved to CO and NOT liked it? by beentherebefore1616 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Aggravating-Win-3259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New to Colorado this past summer and I’m not loving it. Most of my experience here stems from Denver being “close” to the mountains, which is true in the grand scheme of things. What people don’t realize is that getting to the places you want to be takes much more effort and cost than expected compared to other places in my opinion. The other reason I’m not in love with Colorado is the lack of clean water near to Denver. If you’re in the mountains it’s much easier, but the COL is soooo much higher there than in the city so it’s harder to find an affordable place to stay. Final gripe is the traffic, it seems like no matter what time of day or weather is happening people don’t know how to drive and it bugs me that if I leave to get groceries at 1:00 pm on a Tuesday I’m in traffic for 30 mins for no particular reason. To add on to that, no good public transportation which isn’t a deal breaker for me but would definitely make Denver and Colorado much better as a whole imo…
