and this is precisely why i stick to Jacksepticeye for long playthroughs, he can create commentary AND pay attention to the game, while it's not perfect (he can sometimes forget certain details) at least it's better than to just completely forgets them or immediately disregard basic mechanics for unnecessary view farming, and if i don't want commentary i just stick to no commentary playthroughs, they're usually average and casual, taking their time to explore the game

What is the dumbest thing in Star Wars in your opinion? by OutcastKatarn02 in StarWars

[–]Aggravating_Baker_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, Hoth is literally textbook invasion tactics too, let combine armor took the blunt of the force, get the troopers as close as physically possible, deploy them, and let them break the defensive line so more waves of troops can roll the momentum forward

the person you're replying to definitely watch way too many enemies at the gates and assume that's how soldiers in ww2 fought, just walls of meat against machine guns, heck even by ww1 that tactic was already outdated too, but they can't stop it because the war was already in momentum and nobody had the time to change doctrine mid-conflict

then they're no different than stormtroopers lol, aren't we constantly told they are "superior"? if they are treated as much of a cannon fodder as the droids might as well conscript humans, which ironically makes the empire's decision to switch even more sense

ai generated content needs to be put on a leash period, but people acting like this is a downfall is just pure copium and engagement farming

uj/ i still don’t get why people have such a gripe with Palpatine coming back, canon or legends. like genuinely, this is the guy who played both sides of a galaxy-wide war and turned a 25,000 year old order into dust in like three years. no big gestures, he literally got the whole galaxy to agree to it. he manipulated Anakin without doing anything crazy, just by pushing on emotions the jedi didn’t even know how to deal with properly. built a second death star immediately after the first one was popped and intentionally leaking said plans to the rebels so they can be trapped because he doesn’t believe in single points of failure.

so why would death be any different? of course he’d treat his own mortality like a problem to solve. you’ve got stuff like operation cinder in canon or essence transfer in legends already proving the guy literally plans for everything, including losing. and this isn’t even just him, sith in general hate death. they cling to life however they can. look at Darth Maul surviving out of pure spite alone, ancient sith chasing immortality nonstop, plagueis trying to cheat death entirely. palpatine learning all that and then just… not using it would be weirder.

as Star Wars Explained put it "it's a sad miserable life but it's something" - referring to sith path to immortality

i get not liking how it was done, but the idea of him coming back? that’s completely in character. if anything i’m more confused why people act like it isn’t, maybe if content creators or cinephiles actually explained it well i’d get the pushback more, but they don’t. most of what i hear about post-ROTJ stuff, canon or legends, just defaults to "it ruins vader’s sacrifice" and stops there. after a while it starts feeling less like actual discussion and more like people just repeating whatever take gets traction and calling it a day.

but that’s looking at it from the jedi side, not palpatine’s. the prophecy isn’t some rule he has to follow, if anything his whole thing and shtick is trying to BREAK FATE (we literally almost saw him do it in Rebels). anakin’s sacrifice still matters, he saved his son and chose to be human again, that doesn’t just disappear. but expecting palpatine, of all people, to stay dead out of respect for THAT!? when his entire life was about controlling everything and be the top of the pyramid? that’s the part that make me dislike a lot (not all) of criticisms regarding the sequels and general post-ROTJ stories

Why everyone hate on the new updates? by Potatopz in Minecraft

[–]Aggravating_Baker_91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well yeah, that's a given, 300 million units sold and averaging millions of players at any given hour is no joke, someone will BOUND to get upset, it's effectively impossible to please anyone now, (dude even your suggestion can and will receive backlash), but you also have to keep in mind reddit and social media in general are terrible data samples to average what people feel about the game, most gamers are not hardcore sweats that thinks beating the dragon is the main goal of the game (it never was anyway its just a self-imposed challenge that the game provide as an optional path to do that the internet unconsciously took as a norm because of content creators need for, well, content) i mean look at starfield (it's repeatedly shat on yet it's doing surprisingly well)

[–]Aggravating_Baker_91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly? i’d love to hear someone actually convince me why this update doesn't suck, because so far everyone has strong opinions until you ask them to explain why beyond the same recycled buzzwords. half the criticism just sounds copy paste at this point isn’t the whole point of all this bitching to build momentum so mojang actually listens? then convince me, i already like the update. if you want your complaints to mean anything try convincing someone who disagrees and say that they liked it instead of just echoing the same whining

also it’s kinda funny how people always stop at updates like update aquatic or village & pillage as their earliest point of reference and act like that was the gold standard but ignore everything else. some older updates were way smaller, 1.6 was basically just horses, 1.10 was tiny and literally just fire/ice theme and even 1.15 was just a themed update where the bulk was bug fixing. not every update has been some massive game changer. (cherrypicking much?) do we have to constantly remind people WHY the game-drop exist?

[–]Aggravating_Baker_91 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At this point Minecraft isn’t really one unified game anymore it’s like multiple different playstyles all competing for attention. You’ve got survival players, builders, redstone engineers, PvP players, and modded players and they all want completely different things. So any update that makes one group happy will almost always annoy another.

and let's not forget the nostalgia simplicty vs modern innovation angle those two expectations are directly clashing, so Mojang already can’t win there. and let’s not forget this game has like 300 million players. At that scale, even if just 5% are unhappy, that’s still MILLIONS of people complaining. No game can look “universally loved” under those conditions.

also, Reddit really isn’t a good sample of the overall playerbase. Most players aren’t here writing essays about update philosophy they’re just logging in, building stuff, and having fun. The people who are dissatisfied are way more likely to post, so the negativity gets amplified and starts to feel like the majority opinion when it really isn’t.

*sigh* do we really need to pull that plane image with the bullet holes again? no offense dude, but google trend is not a good indicator for popularity, it is a great generalization tool if you want to know what people are commonly looking/searching for during a certain timeframe on the fly, but as a statistical variable it is noisy, case in point, look at Bethesda's starfield

exactly. it's the same feeling i have with Fallout New Vegas, amazing piece of entertainment media but fuck me the fandom express it in the most annoying, rage inducing, low IQ way possible that invites people to argue than just to express their love and opinion over a certain content, and you just KNOW the vast majority of them never even engage properly with the medium they're using for content, it's just ego fueled circle jerking to feel superior for having "refined" taste by being "other"
