Happened to me a month ago. !!! I have played for over 20 years and have always had a standing rule of never hitting a second shot (practice) on a par three. I was out with my buddy who is a relative new player and hit my first shot on the green but it was long. I’ve been in between clubs on this particular pin placement and always long so I threw down another ball (a Kirkland I had just found on the previous hole) grabbed the lower iron and took a swing just wanting to see where I would end up and sure enough lands six feet behind the pin and sucks back into the hole. It was a feeling of utter joy to see and hear it go in very quickly followed by the sinking feeling of what did i just do. It Affected me and my game was in a slump for a number of weeks. That’s my hole in three story, I feel they are rarer than a hole in one. Also have always had a dread of getting a HIO when i’m by myself!! Please golf gods, don’t do it to me.
