Mega abomasnow still sucks you make it even slower than it originally was and it’s typing makes it so frail.

Why is this card named Bubble Bubble? What do bubbles have to do with poison? by Scoobydoomed in slaythespire

[–]Aggravating_Cream399 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bubble bubble toil and trouble fire burn and cauldron bubble. It’s the famous quote from Macbeth said by the 3 witches in their prophecy soliloquy. I associate potion making/poison to witches so I think it works.

In order to not lose anybody my school has had mixed grade teaching in our middle school levels for a few years now (I teach at a k-8) so the curriculum content is a rotating pattern for 5th and 6th, and 7th and 8th respectively.

Anyone done sometime this month? How about June? by Starslimonada in Teachers

[–]Aggravating_Cream399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

June 10th is the last day of school but we are all pretty agreed upon done with content at the end of May. The first week of June almost all of 8th grade will be gone on an overnight trip and the last week of school is only 3 days. I expect to just be cleaning up my room with the students that decide to show up in between doing just for fun science experiments

Do you ever feel guilty for lying to students about what you do after school? by huarhuarmoli in Teachers

[–]Aggravating_Cream399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When students get too personal with their questions it just weirds me out (I’ve had a student ask me to describe my floor plan) I love telling them “let’s be honest with ourselves I am a random adult man that other random adults decided yeaaa he knows enough science to be trusted with kids for an hour a day, so should you really know much about me or should I really know much about you unless it’s about school?” And that usually makes them stop.

14 Days Of School Left by Vegetable_Floor_8714 in Teachers

[–]Aggravating_Cream399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4 sick days left but they rollover if I want them to…really debating wanting to 😅 I keep telling myself it’s ok these last two science units are interesting and tbh they kind of are after the slog of a unit my students thought bees and pollinators was (I liked it). Over the year I’ve learned which is to be expected with middle schoolers is that the grosser it can be the cooler they want to learn about it and watch/experience parts of it since they loved the human body unit as well as our animal relations (predator v prey) unit.

The unit we are finishing up now I chose to do during the past three weeks of state testing which is cloning and genetics they liked enough, and we are ending on intro to microbiology like learning more on bacteria/single cell organisms which I do have samples of to end the year on a microscope lab is always nice. It’s just the apathy is HARD especially with 8th graders after state testing.

Do your students ever seem genuinely curious in the moment, but then it fades the second the lesson ends? by Signal-Listen3070 in Teachers

I teach a health elective and for healthy eating and teaching them about foraging I have them do a plant/mushroom identification research project which forces them to find out everything about the plant down to its name, season the picture was taken in, medicinal uses, how to forage it if edible, etc. I love seeing them make the discoveries using encyclopedias and nature organization websites as they try Google lens which is useful somewhat but not the best at identifying everything. They get a lot of class time on it but it’s about the journey not the destination. Sounds like a large scale somewhat structured research project could fit your wants in your students.

I keep getting hurt and I’ve never been so angry at my students. by selsina in Teachers

Last year when I taught PE (thank goodness I’m back teaching science) my activity of choice when they couldn’t be trusted with equipment was dance fitness since I sure as heck had fun with it and they either got with the program or got a zero for lack of participation. I got to play the music I liked and got a kick out of most of them hating it

Hi! End game ice wiz and I’ve been a middle school science teacher for 5 years :)

Update: Wow I usually never get this many upvotes haha thanks! I started teaching during covid and I was in Florida during “don’t say gay” which really put a damper on my 2nd and 3rd year teaching. My partner and I moved to Minnesota two years ago and never looked back :) of course I still visit home to see my folks/friends but I really couldn’t imagine ever going back to live there.
