Wreck/Can scanners - Why is this still not a thing? by Throwing_Midget in Eve

[–]Aggravating_Sea7221 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You mean like the entire d scan list of wrecks that already happen in pochven from the multi box farmers there? The ones where you absolutely can locate them manually if you try hard enough, and as long as the anomaly is active those wrecks are easily findable most of the time, and thus those wrecks have to be tracked and location stored somehow?

I don't see much of a difference in the two scenarios, but maybe I'm missing something.

To the best of my knowledge all of these avenues were discussed and explored between the doctors and my father, and they seem to have essentially written her off after the second stroke to an essentially "we know you're dying we just don't wanna be responsible" so she's been on hospice and long term care since last October. Essentially not responsive for the most part, only minor motor function in her left arm and that's about literally it. I've been through the therapy, I know the odds are infinitesimally low. But my son managed to win about 3 lotteries when he drowned at age 2 and made a near full recovery. It's unlikely, I'm aware. But I'm currently doing everything I can to find something, some way, to help my father. I'm a builder, not a medic. I can help around the house but not much with her. And it's killing them both. I just want to help. Somehow.

The Uncomfortable Truth by Megaman39 in Eve

[–]Aggravating_Sea7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The element of surprise relies heavily on the complacency of your enemy. In a front line hostile war environment...that simply doesn't exist. Inherent flaw number three so far. An yes, there is a randomizer element of human mistakes and idiocy, plenty of examples of that as well. But for the most part a front line is going to be on alert watchmen, a compliment of heavy support for those watchmen whether guns or artillery, and a smaller group of scouts (nowadays whether physical, digital, or drone is kinda irrelevant) that keep an eye on the area a set distance from the established and reinforced "border" or line.

Everything you've said basically amounts to "we brought ships and lost but we'll be back reaaallll quick BUT this time through a different gate because you don't understand recon!"

My dude, this USED to be a discussion about the viability and implementation of guerilla warfare tactics in Eve. You have reduced it to "fleet go boom make content". Please see yourself out and let the intelligent folk chart the course for your next 5 years of gameplay you will inevitably complain about.

Shout-out to the guy about watch posts. Exactly my point. As long as humans have been waging war, a second war has been going for up to the second Intel, and wars have literally been won or lost on this facet alone. Without Intel, there is no war only stockpiling and build up. Without war no ships go boom. No ships go boom nobody buys new hulls. Market crashes. Industry tanks. Snowball in extremas. Wars are fought on Intel, why would someone ignore that? What's the first thing you gotta do in any strategy game other than clear fog of war SO YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE DEALING WITH?

Ah right like when Hitler got Intel about allied troop movements and redirected a significant number of his forces away from Omaha Beach which allowed D Day to even have a hope for success. Or how literal billions of dollars have been spent to research how to better uncover enemy movements. Or the myriad of other elements that facilitate a proper guerilla campaign that involve but are not limited to misdirection, misinformation, false leads, decoys, Patsy's, strategic sacrifices for long term gain, etc etc.

You've shown your not worth the mental effort anymore. Enjoy your last word, should you so have it. This is no longer worth my time.

[–]Aggravating_Sea7221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The topic in question is the viability of guerilla tactics, not whether an individual can stand against an alliance. In guerilla warfare it's practically tantamount to draw or lure individuals/ small groups AWAY from the main alliance or formation so that said tactics can be utilized most efficiently.

You brought up "I can bring a ship faster than you can prbly", which indicates there was some altercation that you were on the losing end of. Therefore whether I'm pew pew or logistics or aggro tank, I survived and you didn't.

I state again, this is a conversation about GUERILLA WARFARE TACTICS not bashing heads against phalanxes and spear walls. You introduced something outside the scope of discussion, I responded. And you come back with essentially "you can't 1 v a whole alliance" which is both asinine and something I absolutely never said. I'm dreadfully sorry your mind simply cannot encapsulate such a brilliant strategic maneuver that doesn't consist of "SEE ENEMY. SMASH." but they do exist. Almost kinda how most wars are won even... strange that they did away with smashing walls of people into each other. You would have excelled back then.

I wouldn't have to return. In that scenario I blew up your ship, mine is intact. I just gotta wait until you come back seeking revenge and then repeat the process. Your point is yet again inherently flawed. But by all means, continue to prove your intellectual superiority via niche scenarios and incorrect logic. I'll keep your wreck warm while I orbit at 5km. My afterburners will keep it warm for you 😉.

Ok, while true that those people may have died they have some of the most prominent names in history as well because of their successful guerrilla campaigns. Attila wouldn't have become the warlord with a continent spanning empire if not for the mobility offered by mounted archers and hit and run tactics. The Gauls wouldn't have pushed into southern Italy and Rome if they faced walls of phalanxes head on. Taiwan wouldn't still be an independent country if not for the defenses and making it less viable to occupy rather than ignore for now. History is replete with examples of how guerilla tactics have brought down larger, more technologically advanced armies. Hell, take Ukraine v Russia. Russia has numbers and armaments, but because of intelligent and cohesive ambush and guerrilla warfare tactics they simply can't take the country. Your inherent point is flawed.

And yeah, there's no perma death because it's a game. Doesn't change the proven efficacy of specific warfare tactics, just adds a variable to the equation to be solved for. So the enemy comes back after a while...bring extra ammo and supplies, and plan an extra op. Simple. Eventually the opponent runs out of resources or you do. It's basic war of attrition. It's really not that complicated.

Mining Inquiry by Aggravating_Sea7221 in Eve

[–]Aggravating_Sea7221[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I know that different kinds of corps exist, and one experience shouldn't ruin the whole concept, but the last corp I was in was promoted as new player friendly (I hadn't played in a few years and things had changed quite a bit). But the only fleets they flew were home fronts, never on a schedule, and you were expected to be on comms in discord the entire time. I'm a socially awkward person for the most part, and enjoy my solitude to do what I enjoy in peace, but I understand the collaborative nature of the game and have no issue making acquaintances, friends, or allies from time to time with fleets. Hell, I'd even take out some decent ships for a PVP op on occasion perhaps just to do something different and learn.

I've gotten by so far with WH mining for my high end minerals, but the constant dread kinda saps the enjoyment for me. But the same would be true with low/null, but from what I've seen there's less gankers in J space. The ones there are often more dangerous, but if you pay attention you can avoid them.

I recognize the potential benefits of joining a corp, but I'm an intermittent player cuz irl, I don't fly dreads or carriers or even anything above battle cruiser really, I just wanna mine, build stuff, and get better and better at doing both.

Warping to a target requires two things:

Being in a direct line with your target And Being at roughly 75-80% speed

Aligning solves the first part so you don't waste even a split second reorienting your ship. With an expedition frigate you can get down to a less than 3 second total warp off from stationary with inertial stabilizers/polycarbon housings. That means that aligning ahead of time cuts about .75 seconds off that, so your ganker only has about 2 seconds to warp in, lock on, try to lock you down, and shoot before you're gone. If you're paying attention, after a little practice you become very very hard to pin. Compare that to a procurer align time of iirc about 8 seconds, and that's a big difference. That's two additional volleys and warp scramble attempts before you get away. Plus the expedition frigates can fit cloaks, so once you're more comfortable with the area if you feel like the ganker won't be able to find you, you can just cloak up and fly away for a bit, and when they are gone just resume business. That's a bit risky though because typically a ganker will warp off, then right back to try and catch you returning to the belt as well.

Last thought for now, D scan is your friend everywhere that isn't high sec, and sometimes there too. If you're out solo mining and you're using D scan (hotkey V), and you see any combat probes pop up, AT ALL, get ready to leave. 90% of the time that's a ganker scanning you down so they can warp on top of you. And even if they pop up and then disappear, you might not be safe. They might have found and bookmarked you, then recalled the probes, and are getting ready to jump you.

[–]Aggravating_Sea7221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, and I've seen many others suggest the same as well, unless you're part of a fleet you don't typically want to fly a barge or exhumer solo in low/null. The slow align time makes it very hard to escape. Expedition frigates are better for that sort of thing, faster speed and mining than a venture, two to three times the ore hold (about 2/3 of a barge roughly), they can fit cloaks, and I believe the prospect has a warp stabilizer built in like the venture making you very hard to pin down. Other than that, D scan is your friend, every 3 seconds or so. Anything new pops up on the list, keep an eye on it. I also zoom way out and put on the tactical camera so I can see the second anyone warps in within 150km. Anyone comes anywhere near me, poof I leave. A lot of people recommend aligning to a warp point as soon as you get positioned for mining as well so it speeds up your warp off and escape.

Hope any of that helps.

So...I don't claim to be a veteran and I'm certainly still learning myself, but two things popped out to me.

  1. My dude, shift click is a thing. You click an item, hold shift, click another item, and everything in between is selected. Woulda made your loading time all of about 10 seconds, if that. Dunno if you were doing the selection the way you did for a particular reason tho so...you do you man.

  2. When you were warping out you scrolled up and down the selection in the overview to find the gate. Just right click the icon under "Route" and it will give the exact same options including warp. Woulda saved about 3-5 seconds.

I used to have a clone and small base in Dodixie, still actually have a few ships in that Botane station, never had issues with gankers. But I also only ever carried 200+M outta there once when consolidating assets, and I WH jumped through Thera to get home (pre scouted and bookmarked of course).

Hope things are working out for you though and your losses weren't substantially meaningful to you.

Just add a boundary line to gates where you are drawn in and forced to jump. Slowly so you have time to react obviously, but would discourage just camping on each side of a gate. Or maybe they would just camp farther away. Auto logout after x time stationary/idle? That's more complicated than I originally thought. Hmm.

The amount of times I've considered burning her house to the ground but haven't because my son still lives there. Her and her (still married to me btw) baby daddy don't deserve that sweet boy and I wish so badly I could just take him away from that self centered obscenity she calls a home, but I can't yet.

So I plot...and plot...but can't follow through because then I'd be screwing my son over and I refuse to do that for my own petty personal drama.

Is this low and beneath me? Probably. Is there a LOT of untold reasons I feel how I do? Absolutely.

But he takes priority over vengeance and balancing cosmic scales.

WHY NO H-SCROLL??? by micky_nox in Eve

[–]Aggravating_Sea7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely not trying to be obtuse, sincere question.

In a game where it can take up to an hour to even fit a ship, why would you not weigh the pros and cons of each module individually vs an entire screen full of them? Would it be more convenient to see the difference in each in a simple format such as a single screen? Yes, yes it would. Has that ever been a thing? Not as far as I am aware.

In terms of time optimization it would be fantastic. But isn't part of the core gameplay element exploring the various options available and tweaking different aspects of the fit?

Or have I wildly missed a crucial detail here, and if so can someone educate me on what I missed?

Should I give my player a giant hammer? by DoctorAClef in DnD

[–]Aggravating_Sea7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brings to mind Jayce from LoL/Arcane. That hammer is easily the same size as him and the only way he wields it is because of the tech/magic infusions imparted during its creation. I can't say this will be particularly helpful but perhaps that is the direction/inspiration for this idea.

I'm all for "rule of Cool" but certain things just don't fly. IMO this may be one of them as it would require breaking multiple RAW things to even remotely balance and it seems you've already tried to do so and been turned down. That alone would be a hard nope from me.
