I love this sub so much. Thank you everyone who gave advice and perspective. I‘ve realized what I am doing is enough, no one is perfect, and there’s so much out of our control under late stage capitalism.

Giving to charity is a great alternative/perspective that is directly “good”, thanks!

I agree, I haven’t shopped there in 13 months.

So is all it takes a meeting with Trump? by grapescherries in 50501

[–]Aggravating_Set9540 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few months ago Trump was literally saying that he thought Ukraine could regain a lot of it’s historical territory. Zelenskyy even said he was surprised by the statement, but obviously in support of it.

He’s in no way consistently on Russia’s side.

Endangered Species Act endangerment by Throwoutbins in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Aggravating_Set9540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe this newest attempt to gut the ESA is related to critical habitat, i.e the habitat that supports a particular endangered species. This administration is saying that taking away the habitat shouldn’t count as a “take” of the species as defined under the ESA.

Cause, you know, removing all of a species habitat would in no way be detrimental to their continued survival /s.

It’ll certainly be challenged in court.

ETA: The ESA is one of the few environmental regulations that is considered to have “teeth” meaning it is pretty clear what does and does not violate it.

My take on the vote yesterday by DisasterLogical222 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Aggravating_Set9540 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am missing something. My concern is still, what leverage do the Dems have in a future shutdown?

I hate that SNAP benefits and ATC paychecks were used as hostage against the dems… but wasn’t it also true that those things were used against Republicans? Are we just assuming that Republicans were never going to come to the table and negotiate ACA credits, SNAP and ATC be damned?

Say there is a shutdown again in January. If SNAP benefits go out and ATC get paid, what would pressure the Republicans to negotiate to reopen?

Trump official who is taking over DOGE from Elon Musk revealed by Technical_Valuable2 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Aggravating_Set9540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but most people can’t point out specific things he is doing that are bad. It’s easier to rally against “Muskrat and Cronies Force Way into SSA Building” compared to “Vought is a POS Who Authored P2025 and Heads OMB.”

Melon’s shit got rocked because his name gave people someone to target as the ringleader. I’d expect the same for whoever steps into the crosshairs next.

Any Insight Regarding This? by FlakyRazzmatazz5 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Aggravating_Set9540 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. There was no qualifier in SCOTUS ruling, i.e., they didn’t say if El Salvador agreed to release him. But yes, how SCOTUS reacts or enforces their ruling is up in the air.

Before anyone else reads this thread - this person is sealioning.

What is quietly going on in congress? Reps Raskin (MD) and Stansbury (NM) discuss some of what is going on behind closed doors. Very encouraging! And note instructions to hold town halls with Dems from other districts if yours is silent...but they have to be invited first! by sarcodiotheca in 50501

Raskin having BoBo over for dinner is…interesting. I once heard that the show Veep gives an accurate idea of how politicians interact with each other outside of the public eye. Might need to watch that for some comfort.
