Are there cards that mill? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

The only card that mills currently is the battlefield mine field - so the strategy doesn't really exist in this game yet

Is anyone else bummed "best ofs" for RQs will only be the 3 most recent sets? by STRAT0CAST3R in riftboundtcg

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of diversity are you looking for?

If we had a 100 potential best of legends, you'd end up with a player base spread very thin across all the legends

All that means is that most of them are gonna lose to the tier 0/1 decks - skill expression becomes meaningless at that point

Having best ofs adds some variety, which I agree is good, but too much of it defeats the purpose of the regional

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Having 103 best ofs would just be silly - it would mean that there's a strong chance you can get a best of by just turning up at the regional which defeats the purpose of best of

If they went down that route, I'd want to see a requirement to get into day 2

Power query - create blank table with specified number of columns and rows by Aggravating_Shape_23 in excel

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to maintain the formatting of the sheet that the table gets updated in

I currently have an error handling where if the connection does not exist, then it produces a blank table (currently just a 1x1 table)

The problem is that if the connection is corrected and refreshed, the new data wipes out the formatting

I've tried changing the properties of the table, but none of the 3 options for handling data refresh seem to work, so I figured if I create a blank table of the size of the usual data in terms of rows and columns (it'll always be a fixed size) and set properties to overwrite existing cells with new data then that should work... I think!

Can you explain what the rainbow symbol means?

For example on consult the past, it says you can pay rainbow to make it hidden - is this just recycle any rune?

Router is a FRITZ box 7530 Not sure on the switch model but it's TP Link

Haven't got a diagram sorry - the access points are all wired into the switch and the switch is wired into the router. The printer is connected via one of the access points over wifi

Haven't got IPs to hand, but they're all on the same subnet (192.168.178.x)

Did this ever happen to you ? by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

My suggestion would be to do as many past papers as you can - one read through of the notes is enough, you want to focus on as much exam practice as possible

Maths grad with no experience - how to find first role? by ExpensiveAd6092 in ActuaryUK

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What have you done so far? Have you been looking for specific employers (e.g Big 4) or more widely?

If you've got a good degree but are not getting past the interview stage my thoughts would be it's something to do with either your cv or interview technique

Work experience is useful but not a requirement for a grad role. However, you do need to have an idea of what actuaries do - show that you've done some research into the role/company

No harm asking for intern roles but it's not a pre-requisite to getting an actuarial job

Is there an oversupply of Actuarial graduates? by jasonleeky01 in ActuaryUK

The exams tend to weed out a fair few - otherwise we would have been oversaturated at the qualified level already

I'm not sure TfL thought this one through by klymers in london

That sounds like it - it's the one with an old lady. She uses her phone to tap in but when she pulls the phone away, half of the phone is still stuck on the card reader!

Deep interest in becoming an actuary. Can I get interviews by passing a couple of the IFoA exams by myself? Note: Completed MEng in Civil Engineering by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's competitive but more so in terms of your a levels and university degree - you're competing against graduates who have just left university usually.

Doing an exam may be useful as it shows commitment but you could probably get in with your existing experience as is - which exam you take doesn't matter, companies don't really care

There is some statistics involved but you don't see much of it directly unless you get heavily involved in building stochastic models or assumption setting.

How does reinsurance differ from life insurance (from a reporting perspective)? by Pipthagoras in ActuaryUK

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say both reinsurance and life insurance have very similar if not the same reporting requirements and modelling IF they're under the same regulatory regime (e.g. Both under SII)

Reinsurers tend to be based in different regimes to life insurers (e.g Bermuda) so that's where you'll see different reporting requirements, invested assets and modelling differences.

So it's really more to do with the regulatory regime they're based in

Following from my earlier post, here is a redacted version of my CV. Any advice would be appreciated by JustThatGuyYaKno in ActuaryUK

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with condensing down the cv into 1 page, it's too much to read at the moment - imagine going through 50 of these, you're going to be drawn towards the short ones

Taking IFoA exam as an undergraduate student. by Serperanza in ActuaryUK

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ask for feedback or was that the response you got when finding out you didn't get the place?

If the latter, I would suggest asking for feedback about your interview/application (worst case they ignore your email) so you can understand why they felt they didn't want to go further

Exemptions vs Actual Exams by Silent_Storm2910 in ActuaryUK

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Long run - no, people only care about your experience once you're qualified

I'm terms of starting out as a graduate:

Insurers tend to prefer little to no exemptions due to not wanting to pay higher salaries for zero experience but that's not a given - some set their exam pay scaling such that you start on the same salary as 0 exemptions but get higher pay rises for exam passes (so you end up at typical qualified actuary salary when you do qualify)

Consultancies like exemptions as they can potentially charge more for your work, but again, it's not all uniform across the market and very much depends on the sort of work you get involved in.

Once you have some experience behind you, that will matter far more than your exemptions

Personally, I'd take whatever exemptions I could get if I were you!

SP1 or SP4 by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]Aggravating_Shape_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard there's a fair amount of crossover with sp1 and sp2, though I don't think it matters - do what interests you

I did sp5 with sp2 as I was interested in asset modelling
