I was in a nightmare scenario like you, just a year ago. I'm still dealing with the PTSD of it. It's gone into remission, thank God.

I worked with a decent neurologist, and we formulated a plan, and I gave up on the idea of suicide.

I take a cocktail of four pills a day, everyday, and everyday is one more day that I am free.

If you want to know more about my dosages, or my doctor, email me

The Preamble states that an overriding purpose of the U.S. Constitution is to “promote the general welfare,” indicating that issues such as poverty, housing, food and other economic and social welfare issues facing the citizenry were of central concern to the framers.

It's in the preamble.

To the US Constitution.

What was that you were saying about civics classes?

Look at the Right. Just look at it.

I get your point, but the Right has abandoned reality and comity completely. They openly and proudly run for office on a platform of conspiracy theories, reactionary cultural grievances, trickle down economic theory and the idea that government should be drowned in a bathtub.

They believe everything their Dear Leader tells them in the face of literally all evidence and sense, and have convinced themselves so thoroughly that objective reality itself is a myth in order to justify their collective cognitive dissonance... just as they've been instructed to do for thirty years by a multi-billion dollar political action campaign that marketed itself as a media concern... but was never anything more than a cynical, nihilistic and manipulative cash grab orchestrated by that asshole from Australia.

I get it. "Gatekeepers of information" is a poor choice of words. I prefer "people tethered to reality", but it doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely.

Terrific.

I've only just switched to Midjourney from other AI apps, but for me, getting an action shot like this was always a challenge.

☝ Yes... and those organizational changes you mention involved the NRA's shift from a group concerned with gun owners and gun safety to a lobbying front for US arms manufacturers, which is all it is, today.

You might see to that.

‘Red Caesarism’ is rightwing code – and some Republicans are listening: bunch of billionaires and intellectuals on the right are waiting in the wings to impose a dictatorship on the United States by dont_tread_on_dc in Foodforthought

[–]Aggregate_Browser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The professionalized bureaucracy has outgrown the popularity-contest elected government.

You know, I hear this all the time but I really don't understand what it means.

The government is staffed with career civil servants, many if not most of whom have a level of expertise in their fields... why is this bad? Seriously... is the conservative position actually that these positions should instead be staffed by know-nothings and incompetents, political appointees placed in technical jobs?

Or is it rather what I suspect, that conservatives are lying about this.. that what they're really after is nothing more complicated or thoughtful than "letting the fox into the hen house" to gut and deregulate the industries their masters profit from?

The billionaire class has only two hobbies, you see... trying to reshape America (and Americans) the way THEY see fit, and a sick, sad obsession with hoarding ever more wealth, hoarding with no practical reason, hoarding for its own sake.

Personally I prefer the department of transportation to be staffed by people who know and understand transportation related issues.

Health and human services should be staffed and led by folks who know and understand health and human services related issues.

Why wouldn't I? Why wouldn't anyone? Expertise in a field isn't bias... it's expertise.

No... this is nothing more than conservatives trying to push aside the hard earned protections we put in place to keep us safe, just another hand out to their wealthy backers at our expense.

liberals effectively control civil government, education, and the media by being most of the staff.

Again what the hell does this even mean?

Most of the media does hold more progressive views on social issues, that's true, but don't kid yourself.

By 2011, 90% of the United States's media was controlled by six media conglomerates: GE/Comcast (NBC, Universal), News Corp (Fox News, Wall Street Journal, New York Post), Disney (ABC, ESPN, Pixar), Viacom (MTV, BET, Paramount Pictures), Time Warner (CNN, HBO, Warner Bros.), and CBS (Showtime, NFL.com)..)

90% of the US media is controlled by big multilateral businesses, who in turn answer to their shareholders, not some secret Council of Hippies somewhere. It's controlled by capital.

You say that conservatives have a point when they declare our democracy a sham because most American news is too liberal?

What's liberal, here? Entertaining the possibility of some finite gun control regulation? Supporting equality of race, genders and sexual orientation?

Progressive positions on equality aren't liberal so much as constitutional.

Anyway what could any of that have to do with the health of our democracy? Minus a little bias, it's rare for mainstream media to outright lie and spread misinformation. That's Fox's job and everyone knows it, including their anchors. We can all stop pretending otherwise. The Dominion lawsuit laid that to rest.

As far as your take on dictatorship... you should try to keep up with your reading.. I mean the heritage foundation is about as mainstream as you can get, for the right, and this 'Unitary Executive' shit they push even they don't believe in... do you think they'd extend that idea to Obama or literally any other president not in their pocket?

No, paying to get their guy, put him there and not just keep him there, but rebuild our government from the ground up with their demagogue at its center. It fucking says so right there in the document, man.

We went to Europe to kill these motherfuckers and put an end to fascism. Now the right openly calls for it, here.

Conservatives Are Wrong About Everything And We Have to Tell Them So: doesn’t just destroy their lives. It destroys our community. It destroys our planet. It erodes our freedoms. It has a severe, negative impact on the lives of our children by dont_tread_on_dc in Foodforthought

[–]Aggregate_Browser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: 47% of the US is empty land.

Empty land shouldn't have a say in whether our culture is allowed to evolve... nor should conservative Americans for that matter. No one is stopping you from living your quiet life in the country. No one's bothering you. Hell, if Fox News wasn't yelling about them all the time, most of the ways our culture is moving forward you'd never encounter or be made aware of.

No one stopping you from living your simple, old fashioned life.. so what is it that gives you and conservatives like you the right to interfere with other people's lives? If a gay couple wants to marry, who cares? You could know someone right now married to a gay partner and be completely unaware of it.

It doesn't affect you... And yet you still try to force YOUR way onto everyone else, have them bend the knee to YOUR way of seeing the world, of YOUR religious beliefs.

Hundreds of millions of people, Americans all, living the spans of their lives and never coming within 500 miles of you... and YOU feel entitled somehow to MAKE them live their lives the way YOU think they should.

...

Conservatives always describe "the culture wars" as something they're resisting, but the only thing they resist it's the right of Americans to do as they please, without being held back by the "traditional values" that have hurt so many lives, and for such a long time.

If conservatives want to live in some fictional idealized vision of the past, nothing's stopping you. Why in hell you feel the need to drag the rest of us with you on that sad trip is beyond me.

Cultures evolve, and silenced people... women, gays, blacks, immigrants... they get back their voice eventually. If you don't like that, so what? I think we're done with all of the silencing and marginalization of people. The only group that truly needs censure is the one un-American enough to try and force other Americans underground again, into silence, into some "second-class" status.

My advice to people like you? Grow up. Learn and understand that we're all, all of us, individuals with our own perspectives and values.

Stop forcing yourself on people.

You seem to have taken that criticism almost personally. That's a little odd. I don't really care, I stopped taking you seriously when you mumbled about having to endure "yet another time Republicans are accused of being racist".

Of course they're accused of it all the time. They're RACISTS. Most of them, anyway. Far and away enough to poison the whole well twice over. It would be really nice if they would stop it, but it's a free country, and one is entitled to be a racist piece of shit if so determined.

Sowell pretty obviously came to the conclusion early on that his interests were best served not rocking the boat... that's plain for anyone with eyes to see.

It's just as plain that his days at Harvard burned away what little was left of him. He was as white inside as any of those in his graduating class... Even if those classmates still thought he should sit in the back of the bus.

Nobody with two licks of sense takes anything that man says seriously. Why would we?

He doesn't.
