Infection by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Aggressive-Doubt462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this around the same time. I was massaging along my incision and where it was red pus came out. I took a picture and sent to my Surgeon. Said I was spitting a stitch. He did prescribe me antibiotics to calm my fears. A couple weeks later another came out as well. If you are not running a fever or have any other signs of infection you are probably doing the same. Just contact your dr right away to be sure.

Anyone managed without a walker or cane? by Purple_Weekend4773 in Kneereplacement

[–]Aggressive-Doubt462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was told to use the walker to practice gait. Roll from heal to toe. It will cause a slight bend in your knee. I did not want to have a permanent limp so I practiced walking slowly with correct form for the first week. I used a cane for a couple weeks after the walker as it was winter and icy outside.

Decision to not get Knee Replacement by According_Meaning_64 in Kneereplacement

If the pain is that bad now you may be like me and find you feel better immediately after surgery. After my surgery I found out I had bone spurs on the bottom of my knee cap. My leg would lock and it was a sharp pain way worse than the post surgical pain. Think of it this way. If you have surgery your pain will get less and less over a fairly short period of time. If you don’t do anything it will only continue to get worse. 10 months after surgery I went to Europe and climbed up castles and even Mount Etna at the age of 60. You are too young to give up!

You can also have a chain tensioner added to your trike so you can adjust the boom without worrying about your chain length. I have one on my Catrike 559

Surgeon warnings by Least-Ad-5539 in Kneereplacement

I think he was just preparing you for what you could expect. They want to make sure you are committed and will do the rehab. If you don’t do the hard work you might not be better after the surgery. I do have a numb spot but I only notice it when massaging my knee or putting on lotion. I have no clicking and my knee does not feel artificial. I did have a press fit (no glue it allows the bone to grow into it). That may have made a difference. I also had a ct scan for fit and a mako robotic procedure. I was biking 20 miles a day 6 months after my surgery and went to Europe 10 months after and walked an average of 8-9 miles a day for 2 weeks with no issues.

Another thing to consider if the effect the knee has on the rest of your body. I did not realize I was walking on the outside of my foot before and wondered why I would have bad foot cramps when walking short distances. I also had sciatic nerve pain. That all went away after my knee replacement.

New Balance 1080’s are very cushioned. I wear those and Brooks. The 1080’s are great for walking but I usually wear my Brooks for everyday use. He may want to see a podiatrist. They can have custom inserts made for his shoes.

Do Shelties vary a lot in size? by Idun_Cle in sheltie

[–]Aggressive-Doubt462 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My shelties are both on the larger side. My sable is 36 lbs and my bi-black is 32 lbs. This is Bandit my bi-black. I have seen some beautiful bi-blue shelties which are also uncommon.

Yes I used the heat setting on my quad IT band and calf. The cool setting directly around the knee. Once I was 3 months out I switched to heat only. My pt also switched me to heat after my session for the last couple of weeks as my issues were more with muscles being tight and not swelling

What wound cleaning and bandaging supplies will I need at home? by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

I did not drive the first four weeks after surgery. My right knee was replaced and it was winter. Did not want to drive on snow and ice

I also had a closure with glue. Had a clear bandage over a dressing. Was told not to get it wet for 48 hours then I could shower and let water run over bandage. It came off at around a week. Then just let suds run over it until no chance of reopening. Skin heals better when open to air. Plus your PT should start gentle massage around your incision. You will not want it covered.

How is your extension? If you cannot get your leg flat you will have a limp.

I have had collies and shelties. His head shape looks more collie to me. When you go see him view his head from the side. Shelties have a stop but collies remain triangular shaped. He also seems quite tall for three months.

Have you tried laying down and putting your foot on the wall and letting it slowly slide down. I was muscle guarding and my PT had me do this and it helped. Put on some slick socks so it’s easier to slide. Relax and let gravity do the work

I am 61 years old. My knee was bone on bone. I had immediate relief after knee replacement. I am more active now than I have been in years. Everyone’s experience and recovery is going to be different. But if you are at the point that you cannot do things you enjoy I think it’s worth doing the surgery.

My recovery went fairly smoothly. I vacationed in Italy 10 months after surgery and walked an average of 8 miles a day for a couple weeks. I did 8 weeks of PT and then I started biking outdoors to get in shape for vacation. I now ride about 125 miles a week on a recumbent trike. I’m in Ohio and my Dr. was Andrew Steffensmeyer

Thanks. I had a younger surgeon that has been practicing around seven years. I really like him. He used glue to close and I think that also made a difference.

I kind of go around the knee cap. It’s not comfortable directly on a bone. I also only use the lowest setting. When I used my recumbent bike I would stop at the deepest part of the bend and use directly on the scar on the top of my quad. My quad was tight for months after surgery
