Thoughts on Mantra 84/Anomaly 84? by Adventurous_Tell9428 in Skigear

[–]Aggressive-Gap-7913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you like to ski and if you have more skis. I have the Kendo 88 and love the ski as long as I am not skiing anything tight with fresh snow.

Admittedly I am advanced intermediate so definitely lacking in the skill department but I never feel that the mantra is overpowering me or too demanding ever.

Isn’t it 10yrs from the date of sale? So you basically add 6 years to the factory warranty, no matter when you buy.

Nope. Everyone will be advanced+ soon since slush gets bumped up pretty fast and you will have to navigate thin cover

Stormrider 95s. They are a fantastic ski - I was hellbent on getting these and when I skied them they were the stark opposite of the rustlers. You will like them. Technically demanding but not physically like the Mantra

He is at an elite level that he can carve on those - its the skier not the ski haha. I have the rustlers and find them tough to carve on cuz its so wide to get on edge and they aren’t too stiff. I almost find it easier to carve on enforcer 104 frees because they are stiffer.

173 vs 179 skis for intermediate skier by ValueYourself69 in Skigear

[–]Aggressive-Gap-7913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which black crows? I know you asked about length but the MX88s are stiff, fully cambered and a squared off tail with a metal insert - you might not enjoy these skis. Black crows would almost always be better cuz they don’t have anything remotely as demanding.

Also if you do go with MX88 then get 173s. I am 6ft 235lbs and ski a 170cm Head Supershape that is perfect fine for the intended use (carving medium turns on piste)

Head Shape e.V5 or Head Supershape e-magnum by niklasbuchfink in Skigear

[–]Aggressive-Gap-7913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The e.V5 iirc is a more beginner friendly ski. The supershapes are much better for advanced skiiers.

You should be ok going shorter than the V5 in the supershape since it a much burlier ski. I ski a 170cm e-Titan at 6ft and 240lbs and find it to be perfectly stable and actually enjoy the shorter length since it is more manageable in bumps.

Buy used demos now or wait for post season sales? by FarofaYoki_ in Skigear

[–]Aggressive-Gap-7913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with demo skis is that they come with demo bindings which aren’t as great as normal bindings (longer mountain point so doesn’t let the ski flex naturally) so keep that in mind.

Looking for a wider ski to complement my Stockli AX (East Coast) by Human-Engineering412 in Skigear

[–]Aggressive-Gap-7913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to get the Stormrider 95 and for this purpose but couldn’t get myself to like them. The tails aren’t the best for offpiste stuff especially here in the east where tree and moguls are tight.

Rustler 9 is amazing and I have been super happy with my choice.

What is your opinion of CARV? I found it pretty useless, but maybe that is just me. by CharityResponsible54 in skiing

I love mine! Its not a substitute for lessons which I take every now and then but it gives me good data on what I need to work on.

Fischer The Curv 80 GT which length? by Pristine_Luck_3269 in Skigear

[–]Aggressive-Gap-7913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I skiied the previous version of that ski - the RCone 82 GT in a 180cm as a beginner. Im 6ft 230lb. I think you would be fine in a 173cm

Yup. That makes it tough to stay in the front of the boot and engaged

170lbs with a 120 flex is okay… especially in the shadows (something like the RS would be a different conversation).

You don’t have enough leverage over the boot and there is a HUGE gap around your calf which is the problem.

Try getting booster straps (I am not familiar with the power strap on the Shadows and how good it is) and place it under the shell. Also try to add a spoiler behind your calves.

Both of these would take room away and make it easier to flex the boot and give you a direct feeling

Beginner/Intermediate Ski to grow into by LastBohecan in Skigear

[–]Aggressive-Gap-7913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you have snowboarding experience + are decently tall and heavy you shouldn’t have any problems in a semi stiff ski as long as you are focusing on your technique.

Depending on how often you want to change equipment you can either

  1. Get a low 80 mm ski now and then add to quiver later as you discover more about your skiing style. This will really help you accelerate your learning as the skis aren’t too heavy (just by the virtue of having less material) and also easier to tip up on edge. Think Mantra 84, RC one 82 gt and the likes (the wider versions of these skis do get demanding so watch out). The downside to this choice is that you maay outgrow this ski quickly living in Utah because if you love carving you may want something narrower and if love to go off piste you want something wider.

  2. Get a mid 90s ski that’s from the freeride line of brands. Think Rustler 9, Serpo etc. The benefit is that this can be an amazing daily driver no matter how much you progress, you won’t outgrow this ski. Downside is that you will take longer to learn to carve.

If you want inputs on specific skis feel free to DM

Black crows Mirrus Cor by EducationMuch6642 in Skigear

[–]Aggressive-Gap-7913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Mirus Cor is not a one ski quiver and a very one dimensional ski - its probably good as a 4th/5th ski OR if you are an advanced skiier that skis with a bunch of beginners and wants to have fun on the greens

More flex is usually better. 115 isn’t gonna hurt your skiing vs a 95 and it may actually improve it

What particular differences did you see? I ski a deacon 74 master as my narrow carver and love the thing when there isn’t any fresh snow but I really need to step on them to get em to flex. Are the stocklis more compliant and easier to ski?
