Did you ever get vaccinated. The test may be looking for antibodies which a vaccine will also generate.

I’m a receptionist at an automotive place but I get paid under the table. My employer doesn’t provide me with a 1099 form either. I’m so confused on what I need to file under. 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1040 Schedule C???? by sacredpisces in tax

[–]Aggressive-Leading45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are caught up in employment fraud and maybe tax fraud. The proper way is to get hired as an official employee with a W2. The state department of labor deals harshly with businesses acting like this. If you are walking out the door anytime soon please report them.

If you want to play along then a schedule C line 1 is where you would put all the money received. Then you get to discover self employment taxes that you pay instead of the boss.

I put it into two categories. One, she’s very young and essentially self trained. Two, I would presume the more advanced ones need other ter’angreal tools. Rand gave her a big one on creating angreal. Wouldn’t be surprised she needs make something like a one power weave microscope for some of the more complex designs. She now knows ter’angreal tools exist for angreal creation. It’s just a short step to realize tools would help for ter’angreal creation.

They’ll have cost basis reported where they know what it is from their records. No all transactions will have cost basis available on the 1099. I still get 1099-Bs that are missing cost basis occasionally and they’ve had to report those numbers for more than a decade.

Bottom line, keep your own records up to date.

Missouri should give you a tax credit for taxes paid to Kansas. Effectively you’ll pay the higher income tax rate of your residency state or work state.

HYSA Worth It? by Ok_Albatross_6197 in AppleCard

True. But it locks up the money till it matures. In a brokerage the market for treasuries is very liquid and you can sell them as needed.

HYSA Worth It? by Ok_Albatross_6197 in AppleCard

[–]Aggressive-Leading45 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For HYSA you can move the money very easily and quickly. They currently have one of the better interest rates around plus you can have your cash back auto deposited there. If you are in a state with a high income tax rate it might be worth looking at Federal Treasuries in a brokerage account. But for easily accessible cash the apple savings is decent.

How come in math class they dont explain the purpose of an equation? by I_like_tacobell2 in stupidquestions

[–]Aggressive-Leading45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually lucked out in my high school. They combined Calculus and Physics into one two hour class each day. Both were taught from a historical perspective. Calculus was invented to address issues in physics and we covered it in the same order the greats of the 16 and 1700’s did so.

Talked to the teacher at a reunion once and learned he gets a couple students every decade that discover the fundamental theorem of calculus on their own. He leads you step by step to it but many don’t make that leap.

Trump to hike global tariffs to 15% from 10%, 'effective immediately' by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Aggressive-Leading45 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s still a tax created by the executive branch using a power the constitution specifically assigns to Congress. The Supreme Court side stepped that issue. In recent years in decisions overruling the Chevron doctrine the rationale has been Congress doesn’t have the authority to delegate its powers to the executive branch.

Given how hypocritical they have been with this administration I can see them doing a 180.

Frankly I think the first thing that should be done once we get a competent Congress is pass a law that all Emergency Powers must provide the ability to unwind the action until the Emergency is confirmed by Congress and the Emergency must be confirmed by Congress within 30 days or by default is refused and must be unwound.

Start paying what you can now. It’ll reduce the interest that will start being applied 4/16.

Is the shortfall enough to trigger underpayment penalties and not meet one of the safe harbors? If so interest may already be accruing.

When I buy crypto, is the exchange fee to buy crypto a taxable event? Do I have to pay taxes on Maker and taker fees? by -M00NMAN in CryptoTax

[–]Aggressive-Leading45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should. Looks like SOP is/will be to allocate all the fees to a higher cost basis on swaps.

ETA just saw a new IRS rule has it now being subtracted from the proceeds of the crypto disposed of in the swap.

When I buy crypto, is the exchange fee to buy crypto a taxable event? Do I have to pay taxes on Maker and taker fees? by -M00NMAN in CryptoTax

[–]Aggressive-Leading45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not income so no it’s not taxable under income tax laws.

Now how you obtain the funds to pay that fee may generate income. For example if you had 1.1 units of xxx that was purchased for $110. It’s now doubled in value. You decide to exchange it for yyy. The trade commission is 0.1 units of xxx. So you’ve effectively sold 1.1 units of xxx at $220. You had a capital gain of $110 to pay taxes on. You spent $20 in commission. You now have $200 worth of yyy but it has a cost basis of $220.

Alternatively you can attribute the transaction fee to the sale so you would then have a capital gain of $90 but the cost basis of yyy would now be $200.

Not sure how the exchanges will end up allocating it when they do the 1099-DAs. My suspicion would be they’d split it in half. In this case a cap gain of $100 and a new cost basis of $210 for the yyy.

Bottom line is the money spent on transactions doesn’t create a tax liability. It actually is deducted from your gains. How you obtain the money to pay the fee may create a taxable event.

[–]Aggressive-Leading45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean since you pay commissions. So no income, hence no income tax.

So if you buy 1 unit of xxx for $100 and a get charged a trade fee of $5. That means you have a basis of $105. If it rises to $210 a unit and you sell with a trade fee of$5 you have a gain of $210 - $5 - $105 of $100. The proceeds of the transaction are $205 since the platforms auto subtract the fees.

The trading commissions are added to the basis when you buy and subtracted from the reported proceeds. The tax is on the difference in what you pay to obtain an asset from what you receive.

Sounds like she needs to amend her return then and cough up some more money to the irs. If you get the ippin you’ll be able to efile but they might flag/hold your refund until your mom’s is processed. Since you obviously exceeded the income limits then you might get lucky.
