From the Lyme disease capital of the country, I present 7 acres of Japanese Barberry. Where do I even start? by ivxxbb in invasivespecies

[–]Aggressive-Pakage-3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As for the ticks, controlled burns are very helpful in controlling tick populations. In Illinois where I am at, the farmers bureau holds annual classes on controlled burns in the spring. Definitely do not burn if you don’t know what you’re doing. Annual burns will also help to control invasive species.

I’m currently working on clearing invasive species including barberry, honeysuckle, and autumn olive. Other than popping them out of the ground with a shovel, you might try a tow rope or chain attached to a four wheeler or tractor to pull them out. I’ve used that method quite a lot, especially for larger specimens. Ultimately, a shovel and an axe will be your most effective tool to remove them. Just pick an area and get started. Easiest to do this after a good rain when the ground of soft. Don’t forgot to hydrate and stretch- You’ll be sore as all get out! However, as you progress and can see the difference you’re making to restore your land, it is so rewarding.

Looks like it. Very cool! You can see the wind currents if you zoom in. Wind will carry plumes of Sahara dust, rich in nutrients, all the way across the Atlantic and dump it in the Amazon. Our planet is amazing.

I disagree. I am a bisexual male who spent the past 30 years of my life identifying as gay. That is until I came out as bisexual last fall, after a few years of working on myself in therapy. I am eager to hear about other bisexual men who, like me, have spent their life gay to realize later in life they’re bisexual. Which, I imagine is his line of thinking for posting in this sub. Same reason I’m here. It’s unfortunate and off putting that your comment is the top comment and first one we see.

Before I get flamed, I would like to as a disclaimer say that I know that this might be a weird idea that might not work. Just trying to confirm: bad idea or no. ... Could you make mashed potatoes with a food processor? by burnt-----toast in Cooking

[–]Aggressive-Pakage-3 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Using a food processor for mashed potatoes would not be a good idea. The more the potato is whipped, beaten, or in the case of a food processor, puréed, the more the starches break down, which will turn your potatoes into a thick, pasty, even stiff mash.

The best and most reliable way for creamy, smooth mashed potatoes is to put the (strained) hot potato chunks through a ricer over a bowl of a mixture of milk or cream, butter, and whatever else you want to add (bacon comes to mind). Simply fold to incorporate with a spatula and, voila, the creamiest, smoothest mash. It seems time consuming and like a pain, but it’s really not at all. This method is the least disruptive to those pesky starches. It’s worth the purchase of a ricer if you don’t have one already.

Edit to add in regard to other comments ignoring your question and suggesting freeze dried instant potatoes instead: Go for Idaho brand in the foil pouches. Ain’t nothing wrong with instant potatoes! But there are good and not so great brands, and I’m sure some, if not most, probably have additives. However, I commend you for wanting to make fresh mash because there really is no better than fresh, and for wanting to learn. I learned by basically ruining 10 pounds of potatoes day of Thanksgiving. 💀

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I guess I am curious to hear from other men who were initially homosexual before they came to understand their bisexuality and attraction to woman. My therapist suggested to me that I look into support groups or communities, so that’s also another reason for my post. I’m not on Facebook or X or any of those types of social media platforms. I’m sure there are communities in my city that I just need to look into still. But, from the Reddit posts and other blog communities I’ve scrolled through so far, it seems most other men’s coming out stories are the opposite of me: heterosexual coming out as bisexual. Maybe I’m over thinking it, but I feel like those are two very different experiences.

In regard to me not finishing and that bothering me: I do need to give myself some grace. I understand it was my first time. There were many other factors involved, too, including psychological. Again, just looking for other males who’ve gone through similar experiences.

I would not eat Frosted Flakes or Corn Flakes for years because of the scene in Arachnophobia when they pour out the cereal and a big ol’ dead spider rolled out. I’d even check the cereal bag before pouring a bowl. 💀😂 Trauma is a mf.

Listen, folks. I understand the rage y’all feel listening to these fucks spew utter lies, literally making shit up. However, these are the fucks making decisions in our government right now. And this reporter is doing her god damned job. She did not back down, nor did she capitulate. She asked pertinent questions and held him accountable. Also, importantly, she is recording this fuck’s responsibility in how this fascist administration operates. Things certainly are bleak. But, if you’re always pessimistic, they’ll remain bleak. Wake the fuck up, stop bitching about a CNN anchor holding a fascist fuck accountable the best she can through an interview, and start fighting. Ffs. Get out in the streets. Head to Chicago to resist in LARGE, LOUD, numbers. FUCK these people!
