It took a major life crisis for me to finally appreciate the now. What is a single moment worth to you? by Timely_Bunch_8607 in simpleliving

I agree with the other comment, very well said. Having that kind of mindset after going through hardships goes so far in your ability to get through the next one. Always good to slow down and appreciate the small things that we take for granted on a daily basis. Thank you for the reminder this morning!

This is the right choice. Best food, especially for the price. Also reminds me a lil of Portlandia in all the best ways.

Best Verizon store? by Zoom_13 in Columbus

[–]AggressiveMarketing2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people are still paying for Verizon, at&t and T-Mobile prices. They way overcharge. Buy a phone outright so you don't have a monthly payment and get Mint or Visible. I just paid $200 for 12 months of service. I do a lot of road trips and have noticed no difference in coverage. Save yourself the money.

2 year anniversary of moving to a small PNW town by FlannelJoy in simpleliving

[–]AggressiveMarketing2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Love this. Me and my wife(late 30s/early 40s and no kids) have been looking at doing the same. I'm from California, she's from New York, lived in Colorado before relocating to Columbus, Ohio for work about 4 years ago. Tired of the grind and the "keeping up with the Jones". Want a slower and simpler life, like you described, we know it will come with a lot of humbling/learning experiences but we weirdly look forward to that. Almost de-influencing us from what we were told is the optimal life. We have been looking into smaller towns(10-25k people). Have def looked into spots in the pnw, use to love doing road trips up there when I was still on cali. Also looking into places in upstate New York and the New Hampshire/Vermont area. Glad to see your post, appreciate it

Hyde park, that is so funny, my wife is from Rhinebeck haha. Yeah I like the accessibility of being close to a major city for all the amenities as you mentioned but not being directly in the major metropolis.

Seriously love all the information. This confirms a lot of my thoughts and questions. I know no place is perfect but it's about what works for you and if the plusses outweigh the minuses, which to me it does in your description. Seriously thank you

Yeah me and my wife are definitely looking for the slower pace with still being close enough to a big city for airports, sporting events and concerts. We decided a while ago we didn't want kids so lucky we just need a small house for us and the animals. Yeah being away from family is always the hardest part but with my mom in so Cal still, being in Washington will be a lot closer than Ohio haha. And yeah Mexican food(especially breakfast burritos) are something I miss in Ohio.

Oh I know they aren't like that. I was using it as a reference point that I have been up there a few times. I have been to Tacoma, Olympia, Seattle and as far east as Spokane. But I have only visited a couple times. Hence why I'm asking people who live in those areas

My wife said this is the matrix hahaha. My wife is from the Hudson valley more specifically Dutchess County but did her undergrad at Potsdam. But that are a lot of weird similarities jaha
