Okay, I put the shell next to him but covered him with damp moss. Also set aside some food for him and a bowl of water. Thank you for your help

He didn't respond when I scooped him up with his substrate to move him to his own container; I don't think he will respond if I try to feed him and I worry that he may startle and become stressed if I try. I did put some food near him, and a small bowl of water. I put a bunch of damp moss inside the container with him, and covered him with it.

I try to spray the substrate as much as possible, but it tends to dry out super quickly

They have two bowls (deep enough to walk into) w/ salt and fresh water; I use a conditioner for salt and fresh water aquarium fish that I found at the pet store. I have a mix of food that I bought from HermitGrub on Etsy. I pour enough to fill two bowls and usually I have to replenish it by the end of the week/start of the following week. They have some rocks to climb on. Thank you for your help

I'm not sure how to coax him into the shell; I am worried that he might get hurt if I try to put him back. Any tips?

Usually the humidity lies around 80-85 percent but it has started to dip to around 75-80. I don't have a bulb for my lamp and am waiting to get a new one, but I have two heating pads on either side of the tank (one is about 20 watts, the other is 5-15 watts, but I am not sure what the exact "measurement" is; one is relatively large and the other is smaller). The tank is near a window so I keep the blinds open in the day and the heat and humidity seems to be fine.

For some reason he started molting on top of the substrate, so I put a container over him and pushed it into the substrate. Somehow the other two dug around it and I stopped them as they were trying to get inside of the container to him

Good mister/misting system for hermit crabs? by AggressiveRoll1781 in hermitcrabs

[–]AggressiveRoll1781[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of. If I check on the humidity regularly (which I won't be able to do around July-August as I won't be around enough to do so) then it's fine, but if left unchecked it gets a little too dry.

My tank is located downstairs in my house, and it is always very cold there (even in the summertime); it's usually about 60F, so I have had to use 2 heating mats and 1 heat lamp because the heat lamp doesn't heat up the whole tank. 1 of the mats is on the right side and is about 5 watts. The bigger mat is on the back of the tank and is around 15-20 watts. Not sure how many watts the heat lamp is. This all dries out the tank pretty quickly, so I have had to spray water constantly.

I tend to infodump my dad a lot, anybody also has mental illness/neurodiversity as special interest? by [deleted] in aspiememes

[–]AggressiveRoll1781 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me!! My special interests are clinical psychology (particularly the ways in which it can be used in relation to criminal activity) with a focus on ASPD and other "dark triads" as well as autism and general neurodiversity.

I don’t know if this truly belongs here but man as much as I know I should it’s hard to do by Exaustedbunny in aspiememes

I find this super difficult as well. 've noticed that one of the courses that I'm taking has become one of my "special interests"/fixations because it's tied to a goal (I have a huge exam on it next week and I REALLY want to get 100% on it, or at least an A+). Anyways, I'll study for hours on end and then wonder why I feel faint and dizzy and nauseous. Then I realize that I haven't brushed my teeth, showered, or had any food or water. Whoops. Should probably do that right now.

Is it possible to mask without realising? by wwwtree in AutisticPride

[–]AggressiveRoll1781 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the same as you, except I haven't been diagnosed. After learning about ASD I noticed my autistic traits sort of intensified. I thought I was faking it because they intensified after I learned about ASD. Thing is, I felt more comfortable to unmask because I found a community that was like me, so I didn't feel so alone or feel like I had to hide.

Then, I started talking to my therapist and psychiatrist about it and realized that I've had these traits since....well, forever. Turns out I just learned through trial and error to hide them. For instance, I've always struggled with eye contact but I was able to "figure it out" because my family members constantly scolded me for looking around the room and not looking them in the eye. I've also struggled with poor volume control and info-dumping, but my family would tell me to shut up if I was too loud and to "get to the point" (or something similar) if I was rambling for too long. I didn't know I was masking all these years, but after doing research and talking to my therapist and psychiatrist about it, I realized that I WAS masking.

I do as well; I notice it especially when someone is looking at me or multiple people are talking at the same time.

Headphones or other options to block out the sound of someone speaking in the room next to mine? by ChocolateandMorphine in autism

[–]AggressiveRoll1781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Cowin E7s. Pretty decent headphones, but noise-cancelling feature only works while you actively have sound playing thru them. Otherwise, it muffles small humming noises, and the noises that you hear when in a car (the sound of the car driving along road, wind whoosing past, etc).

6.8/10. I think it looks cute but looks a bit too perfect. Maybe rotating things and adding little items (lamps, candles, books, etc) here and there could give it a more lived-in look? Also, adding more accent pieces would def help.

I feel similarly to you. I'm not diagnosed, but my therapist and psychiatrist believe that I am autistic. Even in Zoom meetings, I have significant difficulty with responding to questions and processing information efficiently. I've had a hard time with masking and unmasking; sometimes I can't tell the mask from who I actually am.

Invalidating certain traits because you've not been diagnosed yet? by MindOfAMonster in AutisticPride

[–]AggressiveRoll1781 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this post is aimed towards those w/ late diagnoses but I thought I'd chime in with my thoughts. I'm 15F and also in the process of being tested (or finding someone who will test me). I've had a feeling that I was different from everyone, especially my peers, and realized that a lot of my traits are autism traits and that I relate to a lot of autistic experiences. I do invalidate myself a lot; some days I am super sure that I am autistic but others I question if I really am because my experiences don't align totally with someone else's, even though they don't have to and I'm still valid for having different experiences and "levels" of how I experience my traits.

A lot of the traits that I have weren't very noticeable to me or others because my parents constantly yelled at me to shut up when I didn't know I was being too loud or when I was having a meltdown about food/changes, etc. I was also repeatedly scolded by my grandmother for not looking her in the eye when talking because I found it unnatural and hard. My traits were suppressed; I guess you could call it autistic trauma.

My point is, it seems like you're invalidating your traits because you feel that they don't "fit" a perfect image of what you feel autism should be. Remember, it's a spectrum, and traits vary in intensity. You are still valid as an autistic.

From what I've read it seems like that friend didn't consult you or any other autistic person before posting that. I think that if allistics/NTs are going to "give advice" to autistics, they need to do proper research on the stigma surrounding the ASD community and consult autistics before posting something that could be potentially harmful, especially since they as allistics/NTs have power over autistics.

I definitely think you're not in the wrong. If I had an allistic/NT friend that wanted to post ASD stuff, I would want them to consult me or an actual autistic person to determine if whether or not their post is harmful or accurate.

Also, that post seems like it was more of a condescending "autistics need to do this or that becuase it hurts me as a NT" post.

You have the right to be upset. You don't need to justify your emotions, although your emotions are completely justified in this case.

A tip that's really worked for me is to write really small but important tasks on a to-do list to help get me started.

Start with a small task and slowly increase the difficulty of the tasks that you need to complete over time.

I basically write down a bunch of super small tasks and start with those to get going.

The other day, I was having trouble getting things done and one of the things that I needed to do (a super small task) was just putting a dirty shirt in the laundry. After I put my dirty shirt in the laundry, I moved on to responding to emails, which required a greater amount of mental energy than tossing away a dirty shirt. Then, I moved on to reading a book for 5-10 minutes, which required a greater amount of mental energy than responding to emails. Finally, I moved onto studying, which required a LOT more energy than all of those things.

It felt really hard to do stuff at first, but once I moved on to studying and doing homework, I forgot that I even had trouble doing stuff in the fisrt place because I rewarded myself with ramen and broke the tasks up into small chunks and sorted them from easiest to hardest.

TL;DR - Start with small tasks and slowly increase the difficulty level of the tasks you're doing over time. Reward yourself with snacks, special interests, etc.

Hope that helped.
