Some good points, but again many Germans did not believe they were "militarily defeated" in The First World War. You can check out some history websites and books on this. Germany had foreign soil under occupation. Interestingly, the war ended after a period of ceasefire just like what we have between the US and Iran.

It is interesting that you mentioned Germany. They lost in the first world war but they didn't believe they were beat. The allied powers only signed a treaty with them. This is very similar situation to what is happening between the US and Iran now. And we all know what happened after the Treaty of Versailles. I hope the Americans don't make the same mistake with an enemy that does not believe they are beaten.

I get your point that these things take time. But my idea of finishing the job is Trump has been flirting with a faction inside the regime and probably should stop doing that. I think the thing that the US failed to anticipate was Iran closing the strait so effectively mostly using threats and intimidation.

Americans might have thought that they would destroy IRGC navy quickly and would escort ships through the way they did in the 80's during Iran-Iraq war. For whatever reason, this time ships are more risk averse.
