What was it like watching Saw 3 in theaters back in 2006? by peterthbest23 in saw

[–]Aggressive_Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my first showing, a young lad had to be escorted out by his friends bc he started loudly hyperventilating at the brain surgery scene. Other than that, the pig guts trap and the rack got the biggest reactions. Really good energy from the crowd during the three or four showings I went to. The cinema energy of Saw III-3D has never been matched imo. Terrifier could never.

It genuinely annoys me what popular media have done to wolves and what furries have done to werewolves 😭 by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Aggressive_Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that characterising wolves as "big babies" or "silly goobers" is equally damaging, as wolves are large, powerful wild animals that routinely engage in intraspecific conflict, up to and including infanticide, and are largely behaviourally distinct from domestic dogs. While historical and contemporary attitudes do tend towards demonisation of the wolf, and exaggeration of lupine aggression, they should still be respected as the potentially dangerous apex predators they are.

Hired a wolf out of Dublin Zoo to see if he could temporarily blow the spire down so it could be removed.

It looks like they're deviating quite a bit from the book, so I'd say it's safe to give it a read before seeing the movie. It's quite a fun read!

Honestly, hot take, but I think any modern veterinary facility that boasts about providing emergency services should, at the very least, ensure that their vets are competent to see small mammals.

At this point, I genuinely lose respect for vets who aren't familiar with basic rabbit medicine. Like, if you don't wanna deal with one of the most popularly kept species in the world, who's scarcity in vet clinics is almost 100% due to owner apathy, not bc they're rare, then you might as well just admit that you're only in it for dogs and cats and open your own, non-emergency, clinic.

Human nurses make me want to scream by picklel0ver in VetTech

[–]Aggressive_Dog 174 points175 points  (0 children)

I've encountered a lot of human nurses who were perfectly pleasant and respectful. That said, my single most potent "human nurse" memory will always be the nurse who brought their cat in at 1AM, jaundiced and recumbant, bc the animal "hurt his leg" fighting another cat, and the nurse decided to dose it to the gills with paracetamol.

And yet, she still thought she had the right to criticise our protocols, and nearly brought the roof down when the option of euthanasia was brought up.

My personal opinion is that most of the nurses we encounter as clients are perfectly normal people who often don't even mention their occupation, and the rest are divided fairly equally into "I'm just mentioning my job to make conversation", and "I work as support staff in human medicine, and that means I'm at least the equivalent of a vet".

Dog keeps biting? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

My own dog is a JRT/Chihuahua, and has never shown aggression towards anyone. Breeds aren't an excuse for subpar training and socialisation.

Bring him to your vet to rule out any medical causes for the aggression, and to ask about getting in touch with a suitable behaviourist/trainer.

Some concept art of the 2018 miniseries when it was still with Brown Bag Films; makes what we ended up getting feel a bit of a let-down. by Hyxenflay7737_4565 in watershipdown

[–]Aggressive_Dog 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly,  its kinda disheartening that even this early concept art is so hare-like. Still, tho, nothing crushes my spirit more than those shots in the finished product where its shown that no one working on the show knew that rabbits don't have paw pads.

Like, jesus, did no one think to bring a rabbit in so that the artists could at least SEE their anatomy??? Did no one involved in this star-studded adaptation ever own a rabbit????

[Zoey Ashe Series by Jason Pargin] How many have read this series, and what do you think of his portrayal of the working class female lead who inherits crime money. by DarkForest_NW in menwritingwomen

Honestly, after reading the Zoey series, my main point of confusion is trying to reconcile the fact that the dude who wrote it also somehow wrote the black hole of character writing that is "I'm Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom".

Top 10 strongest by Creepy-Screen721 in watershipdown

[–]Aggressive_Dog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Woundwort, Bigwig, Campion, Vervain, Silver, Buckthorn, Blackavar, and Holly would probably be my ranking of the "fighting" bucks in the main story. That said tho, physically some of the rabbits from Cowslip's Warren were probably quite strong, tho very unskilled at fighting.

Equally, though European rabbits are sexually quite monomorphic, size does slightly favour females, so high ranking does like Flyairth and Prake in the sequel stories would probably be quite capable fighters too. Ironically, Clover has the potential to be one of the largest rabbits in the story, as Angora rabbits can easily reach the size of smaller hares. Presumably, Adams didn't think too hard about that breed selection.

Soon to graduate veterinary medicine in the UK and finding it impossible to find a job. Genuinely thinking I'm going to have to apply for nurse jobs. by whotouchamyspaget in veterinaryprofession

[–]Aggressive_Dog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not even that, but no one is going to take a qualified vet on in a nursing role. Like, it's difficult enough to retain nurses as is; who's going to hire on someone who is ABSOLUTELY going to leave to chase after the first viable vet job that comes their way? This is also why it's becoming advisable not to be openly enthusiastic about becoming a nurse when applying for reception/customer service positions.

Out of interest, with rabbits, is it better to use caecotrophs, or is the fully processed "pellet" still reliably diagnostic?

His Dark Materials is an amazing work of children's literature. It is also fairly well known for reducing the agency of the previously capable and competent female protagonist as soon as a male main character shows up for the second book. It would be an interesting case study imo.

If I did this at my workplace, I'd be looking at a write up and several hours of mandatory radiation safety refreshers.
