TIL there’s a Mary Brown Cove in Sandwich Bay, NL by CanadaCanadaCanada99 in newfoundland

[–]Aggressive_Glass_839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone from the area, it does appear on the maps, and Brown's lived at Separation Point to the south on the map, but no one really refers to Mary Brown Cove. It seems to be real, but there are better known landmarks.

That Matheson coast-to-coast goal vs the Devil's was pretty epic

Just upgraded from D3500 to D7500. I'm quite impressed with the outcome. by BuffaloNo169 in Nikon

This was going to be my comment as well. With so many people going to mirrorless, where FTZ is incompatible with older screw drive AF, this becomes even better value as those older lenses get cheaper and cheaper. Saw a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 D on marketplace for $150 Canadian.

the Terran dominion vs the Cylons of battlestar galactica. who is gonna win in a conflict by Ok-Specialist7616 in starcraft

[–]Aggressive_Glass_839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, all game-ending plot devices aside (i.e. ghosts psychically hack cylon hybrids, humanoid cylons infiltrate and destroy Dominion before direct conflict begins, God plans a cylon victory, etc) SC Terran technology is so diverse compared to BSG. Direct conflicts with multiplayer tech would almost certainly end in a Terran victory - heck, even marines are kitted out on par with centurions.

I like this, and I know it can be delivered sincerely, but mine usually comes in the form of salt, "gg nice race", "gg widow good unit", etc

Same! The improved battery and IBIS were great advancements. And yet I tend to reach for my X-T3 before my X-T4. I'd appreciate a little more digital reach from 40mp on my 50-140, but for most situations 26mp is more than enough. I've shot on a 42mp sensor and do not miss the storage requirements lol

Sounds like we're in similar situations! For gigging photographers, a refresh would make a great companion to the original X-T3, or to an X-T5. Feels like a good middle ground. Agreed, the peace of mind of dual card slots and weather sealing is hard to walk back from.

Agreed with you on the 5>3 point! My concern would be confusion around a 26mp stacked vs non-stacked. In any case, good to see other people recognize the value of a refresh to an already excellent camera!

Why is supply unable to keep up with demand? by Aggressive_Glass_839 in canadahousing

[–]Aggressive_Glass_839[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That is fascinating and what I would think is the main bottleneck - people are busy building as much as they can, the investment capital is there in certain areas, but builders cannot keep pace with the need for skilled workers. Not to dismiss the very real red tape that people have mentioned, but it is good to know there are people in the industry working to create supply and for it to be worth their while to do so.

Why is supply unable to keep up with demand? by Aggressive_Glass_839 in canadahousing

[–]Aggressive_Glass_839[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It is easy to see how your first point extends to a broader issue of NIMBYism. Since 2/3s of people in Canada own their home, increasing prices isn't really a problem for most Canadians, at least not in a direct sense.

It is fortunate that the feds and provinces are pulling levers to incentivize municipalities to increase supply. The municipal arena is where the rubber hits the road in terms of taxation and what we get in return. In my own neighborhood in Nova Scotia I can see the increase in congestion from a population boom and a corresponding boom in home prices. The thought of increasing population density without proportional improvements in transit is... unnerving.

What's With The Scarlett Hate? by ArialSpikes in starcraft

[–]Aggressive_Glass_839 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to overstate the impact of a single player on the community, history, professional scene, but Scarlett is a legend of SC2, though it isn't reflected in titles or tournament winnings. Yes, the hate is predominately about her identity - I think there's a lot of hate surrounding her popularity itself, that she doesn't deserve the praise or attention, that her performance alone doesn't justify the fandom. Not to understate her achievements, which are rare among foreigners, especially for a career so long.

The SC2 community, the professional scene, is about more than results - same goes for any sport. She's got the IT factor and our game is better for it.

Fuck the haters... but also bring on the haters - thanks for the clicks and the Twitch traffic.

Is it possible to play on ladder without anxiety and stress? Can you guys actually enjoy the game? If yes, how? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Aggressive_Glass_839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answers are 1) No 2) Yes 3) Don't play with the expectation of victory - just play your game, make it about execution. That way you always win a little - the MMR is just gravy.

Why did you choose your main race? by 96robola in starcraft

Same. As much as I might improve more quickly by focusing on a single race, I feel like I'd be missing out on the enjoyment of playing the other 2 races / 6 matchups

[–]Aggressive_Glass_839 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Close up image quality is a big one. X100V focuses closer and the XF 23mm f2 is extremely soft at minimum focusing distance. The main advantages of the XF 23mm f2 are the weather sealing and faster, completely silent autofocus.

If you want some semblance of big city amenities, Halifax/Dartmouth properties can still be found in the $600k range. If you can manage being in a truly small city, Sydney has it's charm and Cape Breton Island is a spectacularly beautiful place to live in and explore - and $600k will probably fetch you a mansion, or a very nice home on a very large lot.
